Quote:Robert Griffin has something to say about torn knee ligaments. So does Mark Brunell. Many players are not as good anymore after having reconstructive surgeries.
I know...
What is your point?
So, is it ok if Bortles gets hurt the first game of next season - where he is "supposed to start"?
No, its not. Injuries happen JaguarsWoman, whether you play now or later.
If you are scared that a player will get injured, then he should NEVER play.
These MEN knew what they signed up for when they dotted their I's and crossed their T's for their multi-million dollar contracts.
Quote:There is no way Bortles who is 10x more athletic than Henne gets sacked 10 times playing from the gun. Some quick slants for 8-10 yards and a few completions at 15-20 yards and that rush would have backed off considerably.
I tend to agree with this way of thinking... If BB5 can produce similar to his preseason games... Then we'd see a completely different offense. But can he produce like that? That's the question. It's time we find out.
There's never gonna be a perfect scenario for BB5 to start. I say at this point get him out there and let him learn on the fly. The O-Line isn't going to get fixed any time soon. Help is not on the way to fix that issue.
Just start the kid. Let him suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, like the rest of us.
Quote:Robert Griffin has something to say about torn knee ligaments. So does Mark Brunell. Many players are not as good anymore after having reconstructive surgeries.
Yeah, but BB5 doesn't seem to be that type of QB that relies on his running to get first downs, just to buy time... There's a difference, JW. :-)
Play the kid.
I've been saying week 3 the whole time.
Henne has been in the league long enough to KNOW that you cannot pump fake when they are bringing 8 guys. It's sooo bad.
He doesn't climb the pocket, he has no pocket presence. ARRRGGGHHHH
Quote:If you're going to commit to the running game with Gerhart then put a full back in front of him and pound away. You will wear down the defense eventually and save your QB from getting hammered every series.

You need to put your application in for Jaguar OC.
Quote:6-7 sacks is downright awful, is it not?
Henne is a dink and dunk QB. Looking down field has never been his strong suit. He's starting for games like today where a QB is getting demolished. Right or wrong, it's better he's taking those lumps than to subject Bortles to that.
If they do opt to make the switch, I hope Fisch bothers to make some adjustments to the play calling to get the ball out quickly to force teams to defend us differently. Ditch the stretch plays with Gerhart. Establish some semblance of a running game to keep defenses honest.
Half or more of the 10 sacks could have been avoided with better QB play. A few were straight up poor blocking/play calls. But many were Henne being Henne.
Blake's strength's will help the OL play considerably. It also would help if the defense had to fear the ball going beyond 7 yards past the line of scrimmage with any type of consistency. The defense can tee off on Chad and he won't make you pay more often than not. It's not difficult to defend against that type of QB play more often than not because he simply cannot and will not beat you.
Point being I'm beyond confident most of those "lumps" Henne took today could have been lessoned and avoided due to Bortles' strengths in his game.
The time is now. This team cannot continue to trot Henne out as the starter. It's a damn insult to this fan base at this point.

For a guy that's an 8 year veteran he looks clueless on what to do/change/adjust to more often than he ever should. It's really pretty bad. Not only does he not have a great arm he struggles with the mental side of the game.
He's a borderline statue in the pocket, can't make a quick read and get the ball out of his hands, what a damn mess.
The way Henne stares down receivers is freaking insane for an NFL qb.
Quote:The receivers don't get open, the o-line stinks. Say what you want about whether or not it's the o-line or Henne to blame for all the sacks, but you can't escape the fact that this line can't run block for squat and that's not good for a rookie QB. We all have confidence in Bortles but is it really the best thing for him to be put in this situation?
There is no one player or group of players to blame for all 10 sacks. Some were Henne's fault. Others were the line's fault. For all we know, one could have been a receiver's fault too. Before putting a rookie quarterback on the field, we need to figure out who is guilty of causing each sack.
Quote:This guy is billed as a bruiser but I've yet to see him break a tackle. In fact, Gerhart routinely gets taken down by one defender.
Part of the problem is that he's routinely getting hit in the backfield WAY before he can get up to speed.
Quote:The way Henne stares down receivers is freaking insane for an NFL qb.
Not just a QB but a 7 year veteran QB.
Henne is best when he has to come in for short periods and spot duty. Less time for his inconsistencies and flaws to show up. He's not a starter.
Quote:No it isnt. We were not a zone stretch team. The days of FT and MJD were power O out of I form.
Then why have people been saying on this board since the JDR days we have a zone blocking scheme? Not zone stretch. Zone
blocking. I have been a member of this board for a long time and none of the zillion posts I read mentioned us running a power O out of I formation.
Quote:Not quite, but even if your assessment was accurate, you're okay with your rookie getting pounded 5 or so times a game? Will you be okay when he gets hurt because the line is incompetent right now?
I don't think we can continue what we have seen week in and week out.

I believe this is exactly why Bradley worded his statement they way he did. He wants to see if the line was as bad as it seemed and what kinda situation Bortles is being put into.
Quote:He really doesn't want the attention a QB controversy would garner
Then why did he draft him?
Quote:I don't think we can continue what we have seen week in and week out.
I don't think we will either. Two more weeks of being embarrassed and then BB starts against Pittsburgh.
This comes down to a question of patience guys (and girls). The more patient approach says sit blake the rest of the way, giving caldwell and gus a pass, and all but ensuring they'll be here another 2 years.
Or, we could get bortles experience this year so that he's more prepared heading into next year. That way year 3 can be a fair evaluation of the regime
But if he sits all year, caldwell and gus can fall back on next year being his de facto rookie year if things dont go well. It almost guarantees them a 4th year no matter what things look like

Agreed, but I think it'll be a bit sooner. Bortles starts the home opener.

Oh so he's the Juggernaut now and needs about 10 yards to get up to speed?
