Quote:LOL, you would think they (the OC) would know how to play to Gerhart's strenghts... But if you watched the game, you would think they thought Gerhart was Denard...
Fisch's play calling has been pretty moronic the last 2 weeks.
Quote:Not quite, but even if your assessment was accurate, you're okay with your rookie getting pounded 5 or so times a game? Will you be okay when he gets hurt because the line is incompetent right now?
Injuries happen. He could have a season ending injury in practice.
When will the oline get better? What if it doesn't? He has to play sometime.
Quote:6-7 sacks is downright awful, is it not?
Henne is a dink and dunk QB. Looking down field has never been his strong suit. He's starting for games like today where a QB is getting demolished. Right or wrong, it's better he's taking those lumps than to subject Bortles to that.
If they do opt to make the switch, I hope Fisch bothers to make some adjustments to the play calling to get the ball out quickly to force teams to defend us differently. Ditch the stretch plays with Gerhart. Establish some semblance of a running game to keep defenses honest.
So YOURE saying they should keep Henne in there?
Quote:Things Henne could do to get sacked less
1. audible when you see them bringing the house
2. Throw the ball quickly when the blitz is on
3. Throw the ball deep to make them pay for blitzing
We could do better if he did nothing but audible to a screen pass every time there are 8-9 in the box lol we ran the first screen play i think the 4th quarter ?
But he didn't say yes, either.
Still waiting on a response to my previous post....

We have been stuck in the downward spiral of "are the OCs hands tied because of the talent level of the QB" for years with Fisch/Henne and Koetter/Garrard. When will it all stop? Please, make it stop.

We sacked Foles 5 times last week. I think he survived.
Quote:That doesn't look looks it's going to happen this year. So should we just not start BB5 at all this year?
If you want to give up on that after two games, go ahead. I won't. I expect this OL to be playing much better by mid-October.

It's a tough game for tough men. Yes, I'm okay with it. Maybe you've never played football but you never play scared because of the fear of getting hurt. At some point Bortles will play and he will get sacked, maybe even multiple times. He needs to be playing now, because he offers the best chance to win.
Quote:Remember when everyone was blaming the o-line for Gabbert's sacks? Then they realized it was Gabbert who was making the o-line look bad..just saying. I think we have the same situation. Henne waits for the first read to get open instead of looking for 2 and 3.
This.

I will have to rewatch the game but I really came away thinking that he rarely had time to even look at a second receiver. Half the time there was a DL in his face when he got to the back of his drop.
Quote:You've got to find a way. With a bruising back like Gerhart, 7-8 carries a game squanders what he can do to a defense.
Gerhart was a between the tackles pounder. They knew that when they signed him. So pound him. It may not work early in the game, but pounding will eventually take it's toll on the defense. Gerhart will get his yards. That's not going to happen running him outside. The line will get better at run blocking, but that requires the team to actually run the stinking ball.
Again the coaching staff is at fault here. Instead of pounding him they want to stretch him out on the outside. It always fails and they continue to do it.

This guy is billed as a bruiser but I've yet to see him break a tackle. In fact, Gerhart routinely gets taken down by one defender.

That is not hard to do. They are bottom of the barrel here. IF they get the runner 3 yards a carry thats a huge improvement.
Quote:There were definitely a couple/few where it seems the Henne didn't recognize that there was about to be pressure. Don't most teams have a WR that is the outlet if there is a blitz coming? It's like Henne didn't even realize that there was gonna be an overload on a certain side on a couple of the sacks he took.
Chad Henne did this all last year too. He locks his eyes on the intended receiver and does not sense any pressure coming behind him. Better quarterbacks know when to run out of the pocket. Or he is unable to find an open receiver and does not know what to do with the ball. Whatever the reason, I think there could be something we are not seeing that causes him to hold the ball too long.
i was hoping fisch was trolling in the preseason by running denard mainly between the tackles and gerhart outside.
but in the regular season...

No doubt, I agree 100%. And we need that, along with some better pass protection, before Bortles should play.

Or maybe the line is still bad. 10 sacks is unheard of even with Gabbert.
