At least

Not quite, but even if your assessment was accurate, you're okay with your rookie getting pounded 5 or so times a game? Will you be okay when he gets hurt because the line is incompetent right now?

There were definatley a couple/few where it seems the Henne didn't recognize that there was about to be pressure.  Don't most teams have a WR that is the outlet if there is a blitz coming.  It's like Henne didn't even realize that there was gonna be an overload on a certain side on a couple of the sacks he took.
Ok Gus. This is step 1. Now come out Wednesday and name Blake the starter and we'll consider jumping back on the bus lol

Big Ben gets sacked a ton every year, yet he plays.

Play the best players, period.
Quote:Keyword there is part. Other quarterbacks are able to take as much time as he did to look for an open receiver because they have better offensive lines.

My dad once told me, "A quarterback is only as good as his offensive line," adding even Brett Favre would suck with linemen like ours.
The O-line is terrible, yes. The main issue is the defenses that are blitzing 7-8 guys at a time. They KNOW Henne is incapable of making them pay for that and they're allowed to keep doing it. I think they would've had to play their standard 4-5 man rush if Bortles was in there. He just would've made more plays, it's as simple as that.

Don't you think at some point this year, we need to see what we got in Bortles? This O-line isn't going to improve a lot.

I don't know, maybe Bortles is better at recognizing blitzes and over-loads.  Maybe Bortles is better at audibles.  Who knows.  But I think it's time to start finding out.

What happens if Henne goes down?

Start Morris in place of Bortles?

Come on FBT, this is a physical sport... Players will get hurt - injuries are inevitable.

What's your take on the injury to Hurns because of the TO?

Sounds about right.  The rookie has had 2 games to watch.  Now let him handle the the offense.  It's time for him to figure it out in real life

Quote:They roll Henne out quite a bit. That only works effectively if you can sell play action. When you look at the way teams defend us, they're not worried about us running. That's not going to change with Bortles in there. They have to commit to the run, and they need to quit trying to run outside with a between the tackles running back.

Exactly how can they commit to the run with offensive linemen who can't run block and a starting running back who prefers to run up the middle? It is no mystery why Toby Gerhart got so few carries.
Things Henne could do to get sacked less

1. audible when you see them bringing the house

2. Throw the ball quickly when the blitz is on

3. Throw the ball deep to make them pay for blitzing

If anyone thinks throwing Bortles into this dumpster fire is a good idea, I don't even know what to say.  You can't put him in until he has some kind of chance to succeed and right now that simply does not exist.  There needs to be some kind of running game and some kind of consistent pass protection, otherwise you're asking for trouble.

They blitz because they know henne is only going to check if down. Why wouldn't you stack the box if even when we have 4 WR set henne decides to throw a screen

HAS ANYONE NOTICED HOW HORRIBLE OUR WR SCREEN ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN?!?!? He's getting blown up before even touching the ball.

Yes our offensive line is bad. Young looked better than bradfield and buanko is more of a run blocking c who has some speed to get to second level.

Henne is bad. Fisch knows he doesn't like to throw more than 10 yards so he's trying to call a game according to hennes strengths which is obvious there are none besides taking forever to call a bad audible
I knew we weren't going to win many games this season, but I was hoping at least we wouldn't be blown out

You've got to find a way. With a bruising back like Gerhart, 7-8 carries a game squanders what he can do to a defense.

Gerhart was a between the tackles pounder. They knew that when they signed him. So pound him. It may not work early in the game, but pounding will eventually take it's toll on the defense. Gerhart will get his yards. That's not going to happen running him outside. The line will get better at run blocking, but that requires the team to actually run the stinking ball.

That doesn't look looks it's going to happen this year.  So should we just not start BB5 at all this year?
Remember when everyone was blaming the o-line for Gabbert's sacks? Then they realized it was Gabbert who was making the o-line look bad..just saying. I think we have the same situation. Henne waits for the first read to get open instead of looking for 2 and 3.

LOL, you would think they (the OC) would know how to play to Gerhart's strenghts...  But if you watched the game, you would think they thought Gerhart was Denard...
Can't help but wonder how that play to hurns could've changed that defense. They had no reason to expect anything deep
