I mean, the reason I mention trade potential is because i really cant think of any other reason why bortles is on the bench still

Quote:They are setting him up for failure. It's a good thing. Hopefully we win (ugly) against the skins in spite of Henne and his inability to lead a football team.
Then Bortles, in all his glory, to be declared the starter for the home opener, will be released upon the world.
We'll see. I don't think they'd actually do that to any of their players because it reflects on them as well. I think they see more potential in what Henne can do if he gets out of his own way than even he does, and they're trying to push him to trust that. It's the same thing we saw from Garrard. The physical tools were there, but he never had the confidence to trust in himself, and as a result, mediocrity prevailed. I suspect the same thing will happen with Henne.

Quote:Certainly, but he's never show the ability to consistently do this, he's just not good in the intermediate to deep passing game, actually, I can’t think of anything Chad does well. All this team needs from Henne is for him to do things well enough. He doesn't have to excel anywhere. Minimize the mistakes, and take a few more chances. Trust himself, and trust his receivers to make plays.

When Bortles comes in and starts lighting it up, what are odds on certain board members crediting his instant success to the tutelage he received being Henne's backup? Here is what Vegas currently has.

We've kinda already been over this. We know they wouldnt have to scale the playbook back for him, and the players have expressed confidence in both equally. It's not that he's not "ready" at this point. "Ready" is a moving target. It's nonesense. I think they're doing this just to make it look like they aren't giving him the job. Since the vet played OK, they want it to play out. Make him wait a bit.

If "ready" was an actual thing , stanzi would be #2

I love the playbook argument. I think Bortles can easily pick up the 5 yard check down and close your eyes and throw it plays pretty quickly that we run.

Well yeah, and the fact that gus has already told media that that's not the issue. And like I said, if "ready" had any significance, stanzi would be the backup. A henne injury doesnt all of a sudden make you ready lol

Quote:It was a play from Sunday that exemplifies how Henne does not have the instinct to do this. It was in the third quarter if I remember and a third down. They blitzed Henne and he rolled out of the pocket. When we rolled to the right, the defensive linemen got jammed up by our line so now Henne was basically by himself and had ample enough time to reset his eyes and make a strike or at least run to for some type of gain. Instead he throws the ball away. These are they plays if feel a previous poster talks about they the same MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN.I'm with 'ya on this. I'm not against Henne by any means, but... well, he is what he is. Let me put it this way....
It seems they are trying to coach him up to think like a play maker instead of a manager. It is just not his game to do so. I support him as long as he is the qb and will hope for the best but I take true solace in knowing the real deal is waiting to be called up.
Your in a car race, so you need a fast car that handles good to be competitive.... and you've finally gotten one! Unfortunately, your best car isn't being allowed in the race at this time for fear that other cars will bash into it and damage it before it ever has a chance to win a race. Therefore, you run the older, slower and lower performance car that you have. You know it can't win a big race, but it's been around a good while and can finish; and besides, it's all you have until the new car is allowed to race....
That's kinda' how I see us with Henne and Bortles for now. Henne isn't a game changer; he's a game manager. I don't mean that in a mean spirited way either. Teams need quarterbacks who are 'game managers'. It's just that usually, they are the back-up quarterbacks, not the starter. Since that's not the case in J'ville, I have to think that the coaches have a good reason to be doing this. I wrote a rather blunt, 'screaming' post just before the play offs started stating (in so many words...) 'I demand a team that can win'. Yup... guilty. So at this point, while I still want a winning team, I'm just going to have to 'suck it up' and wait until we really do have the players in the key positions (like the offensive line, for example...) that can win the battles in the trenches where games are really won or lost. Funny, linesmen don't get much 'glory', yet they are the ones who really win... or lose, games.

He showed he was ready in multiple preseason games. The kid doesn't need to be Peyton Manning prepared to be ready. He showed he was able to handle himself fine, all while making beautiful throws along the way. He's going to throw INTs and make mistakes but I don't see how he hasn't shown he would be able to handle those.

First true thing walterfootball has said..
JACKSONVILLE OFFENSE: The Jaguars could be 1-0 right now if Gus Bradley started Blake Bortles. Instead, he inexcusably went with Chad Henne when his old mentor made the right move by using Russell Wilson as a rookie over another crappy veteran (Matt Flynn). I don't understand this at all. Bradley should've named Bortles the starter for this week after watching Henne fail to complete routine passes in the second half of Sunday's game. Bradley is a great defensive mind, but he's displaying a Rex Ryan level of offensive incompetence.

Yeah, because Henne has shown the ability to do any of that consistently in his time here (or anywhere) thus far. If that's all they want him to do then just put Bortles on the field.

You don't give any credence to the notion that the coaches want the o-line to settle into some semblance of solid play - and they want the rookie WRs to at least know where to line up on the field before thrusting a rookie into the line-up?
I think it's that simple. The receivers will be fine by week 3. The line will probably take a week or two longer to solidify and will still have issues. But I think that's when they put the kid in. I think it has nothing to do with him being ready - but the pieces around him at least being "solid." Those pieces are not there yet. Seems totally reasonable to me.

I would not describe anything Boselli has said as fawning. He pretty much said Monday night he'd start Bortles but it is not his call.

I know, I don't quite understand this either. Everyone seems to have a specific timeline for when offensive lines "gel".
