Quote:If a QB cant fix his footwork while learning on the fly then he probably wouldnt be any good in the first place. Stafford has horrible footwork and is still pretty dang good. start the kid

It's not so much being able to learning the fly. This is actually psychology in the way a person is condition to do certain things. If you practice one way over time that becomes the habit and the habit is reinforced. If he starts to soon and reverts back to old ways the those habits become reinforced and over time one will stick over the other.

I'm im the camp of he will start when he does. He is clearly better than Henne and looks poised to be rookie of the year. None the less, when the coaches decide he is ready to start is when I'll support the decision. They want to see certain things for him in all aspects of his preparation and I'm fine with that.

im glad at least someone understands.
Well.......my vote is for Henne..........as back-up

I'm working on my master in Psych so this stuff makes a lot of sense to me.
Quote:Glad you aren't a coach.

We'll see what the coaches do.  They haven't made any indications that Bortles will start against the Eagles.  Whoever does start, I will support the decision.  If Henne can get into 3rd and short then our defense will keep us in games.

Surely he shouldn't be playing pre season then? Or against any rush?

He's starting week 1, Bradley just isn't going to tell us until just before kickoff
They may wait for the next preseason game, but I think it's turned from Henne's Job to lose to Bortles job to lose. Another decent showing and Bortles will start.

Oh and for the record, Bortles completely reverted to his old footwork on the TD throw to Hurns.  Didn't matter, BB5 has a ROCKET arm.  With good footwork, its a LASER ROCKET or something..  He good!

At this point, if you think Henne starts week one, well, you have to be brain dead.

If this was boxing the referee would have stopped the fight
If Blake Bortles starts on day one, it will be eeeeeeeerily familiar.

Preseason is still a glorified practice. Let's not lose sight of the point to make a sarcastic joke. Preseason is a way to see how far he has come and the closest way to have almost near game reps without the consequences.

He may be ready anyway. All I'm saying is whatever the coaches decide I'm cool with. It looks like it's working so far
if i really thought we could win the superbowl this year I would be screaming for bortles to start but I don't think we can even with bortles.

We still don't have a pass rusher that can be consistently dominant even against top tier o lines

against chicago and now detroit we struggled to get consistant pressure and though we got enough to make stafford shift the pocket occassionally i didn't feel like a sack was on the cards

added im not convinced by guy or evans as our rangy free safety

we also need to sort out that mess of an interior o line, set our starters and get them bedded down in order to open up some lanes for gerhart who impressed me with his ability to shift the pile after contact

imagine if that bulldozing strength was regularly hitting at the second level instead of at the line. I would rather let our team gel a little bit with henne under centre whilst we make bortles mechanics so clean i can eat my dinner of em... little homoerotic but the point still stands.

I'm seeing week 8 miami as a great time for him to start. A home crowd to cheer him on 8 games left so time for him to get plenty of nfl experience, a bye week round the cornor to fix any problems he might have found in his first two starts

plus even better time would give lee and robinson a bit of time to get used to the nfl possibly giving us 4-6 viable options in the receiving game especially as hurns doesn't seem remotely out of place in the nfl, sanders would be back

I have been for Blake sitting  - until tonight - I know he will have issues and will not be perfect - but seeing him tonight sealed it for me.. I have made many excuses for Gabbert - now I feel silly - seeing Blake stand in the pocket was enlightening to say the least - I hate to be like this but I have to say - Start Bortles!

Russell Wilson was lights out at Kansas City in his third (preseason) game of his rookie year and the same discussion that was going on here was going on at Seahawks.net.

And then Matt Flynn got traded to the Raiders.

Quote:O line isn't ready to protect our qb of the future. Start henne.
How could you possibly make such a comment! Blake has handled pressure much better then Henne. and makes plays under pressure that Henne can only dream about! He played with the ones and the game was not to fast for him, sitting him on the bench only to take reps with the scout team will only hinder his development.
