Quote:Blake will learn more and be better off getting the reps and playing the game versus sitting and not getting the reps with the team. What is he going to learn watching Henne play? What NOT to do? Henne can sit and be available to answer questions Blake has but I firmly believe Blake is better off playing now versus sitting and his play has confirmed that.

See how well you learn sitting in a nice quiet classroom with few distractions as opposed to his much you absorb while you're trying to study and people are running full speed at you trying to take your head off.

Or even just try to read a book while you have a couple friends whiz tennis balls by your head for ten minutes and then have them quiz you on what you read. Tell me how it works out for you.

He can study all he wants but it has to be applied on the field. In live action. He won't benefit from sitting all season when he's already playing at the level he is. Not when he's already showing he's mentally able to handle the position. Nothing he's done has shown he doesn't have the confidence and ability to handle playing right now. I could easily argue him sitting all season, when he's playing at this high of a level, would hinder him and the team more than help him.

For the last time. It's not about confidence or ability. Its about what he just learned becoming a natural act instead of something he has to think about. Once the team has decided he has taken that step, then start him. Very simple actually.

Maybe Federer shouldn't have played any matches until he was ready to win a title? can't possibly have helped his development...

i get your point but thats no where near the same thing.
Can someone help me understand something. If Henne is the starter, this means Bortles will be getting ZERO work with the 1's in practice, correct? When do they pull the plug on Henne? Can they truly be stubborn enough to sit Bortles all year even if the losses are piling up week after week?

When a golfer makes a swing change, they don't stop playing tournament golf and sit on the range all day. Although different sports, the concept seems identical to me.

To each his own. Sitting him is a waste of his time and delaying the inevitable. Either way the team will look right because whenever they do finally let the kid play he's going to seize the position and never look back.

I personally can't stand the whole footwork argument. If he needed major redevelopment that would take a whole season+ then he never should have been taken at 3. He's ready and has shown it week after week.
The funny thing is he will be starting week 1, so the likes of achilles are actually criticising the coaching staff...

If his coach at some point reworked his entire swing, he would have not competed in matches at that time.

Similar to the multiple times tiger woods has taken time off to have his swing reworked. Once he's fully natural with the new swing, he starts competing again.

Exactly. Throwing 30 times on a sunday isn't going to change anything in practice

Yeah I thought that as well but didn't include it. Not even close.

Who said the whole season? And he was drafted on upside. As a lot of players are.

Tiger has never taken time off due to a swing change. He still played tournament golf and didn't play his best until he grooved his new swing.

Haha I bet Federer never went a week without competing from the age of 10

Yes they do....

It's been said.

The kid is ready and I don't know what the heck more he has to do to make you realize it.
Interesting quote...

How can Gus Bradley preach competition then not start the best man at QB? Very contradictory of his philosophy.

Have you ever seen a golfer leave on a stretcher?

I can't recall a rookie QB getting injured and never playing again either...
