he would need reps with the ones to get on the same page and get timing with his receivers

press are going to notice if bortles takes all the snaps in practice before the phili game

but they'll never check the underground practice field with assorted missile silo.... mwahahahahahahaha
I don't live  in Jacksonville but please someone call the radio show and ask Bradley If it all about competition and the best player plays how will he explain starting Henne opening day!

Quote:The O-line could take years to become perfect... you got what you got. We looked magically better when Bortles was in that's all I know.

The big throw for Todman would have been a sack for Henne. People would be using it as proof not to play Bortles.

He's physically and mentally mature, he seems be at total ease. He has beat out and earned the job. Why waste games? It also means he gets all the reps in practice through the season too.

If your local news media is half as good as Philadelphia's spies...

And next week when Bortles plays most of the games you will be saying why risk Henne...

It's already happening and you can't see it. Notice the O line blocking for him today?

The OL is not ever going to look perfect this season but I feel confident in saying it would look better with a better QB (Bortles) behind center. He has infinitely better pocket awareness than any QB we've had in years. Add that to the fact he has shown the ability to get the ball out of his hand quickly and the OL would look better.

Plus I'm a firm believer an OL will play at least slightly better/harder for a guy they feel can truly win them a football game.

I think it's quicker to do when you already have a left tackle, like when Seattle did it with Walter Jones.  Robbie Tobeck. the center, was the final piece under Holmgren to get to the Super Bowl in 2005.  Carroll did it inside out with center Max Unger.  Then left tackle Russell Okung and Earl Thomas came in the same draft.  And then it took a couple of years.

I want to sit at the edge of my seat again when Jags have the ball, good or bad Bortles is fun to watch, Yes Bortles actually threw two interception that were dropped, and I was sitting on the edge of my seat

pretty sure the o lines job is to block whoever the qb is? i'd be really worried if they were phoning it in

and i want to risk henne, I want henne taking that hit when the o line miss their assignments whilst bortles perfects his mechanics and watches more and more coverages. i want henne getting the pick when lee runs the wrong route

that timing doesn't come over night, as each receiver runs a route slightly differently be it different straighline speed or speed out of their cuts

why do you think he has such good rapport with hurns and brown

they have both been healthy and working with the 2's when bortles has been getting his reps

that comeback route to hurns was perfect, i mean he turned and the ball was there leading him away from his man to the endzone

that takes time and he needs to get that with shorts, robinson lee lewis

maybe bortles will be better for sitting and maybe he wont but getting more knowledge of coverages and defenses can only help him, as will having a more unified offensive unit around him
Maybe the Stealers will all be high?
Bortles already has better timing with all the receivers. Where is this timing Henne has?

Marcedes Lewis caught a big pass. Allen Hurns looked awesome with Bortles in there etc etc

Meantime the Colts, Titans and Texans are completely on board with Bortles holding a clipboard all year

Big Ben certainly has had his confidence crumble from starting all his rookie games except one (i think)

Never improved...never won a championship...

Quote:Well if it is a glorified practice why would your rookie quarterback look so much better then your starter against the ones!

Because he is better. I think you are really reading what you want to when you read my posts. I said he is the better qb. I also think the coaches will make the change when they see fit
when the season starts and if they truly start henne like they are claiming, it won't go over well. there will be so much outrage at the home games, i can't wait to hear it. the other teams in the division love it, more wins for them. this has to be one of the dumbest decisions this staff has made. literally any other team would start blake over the starter sans teams with starting quarterbacks with names like manning, brady, rogers or brees. i hate watching henne so much.

note to self: head and wall don't end well.. but what the hell it's 5am

i can pull examples of people who started out my [BLEEP] and who are considered busts blaine gabbert etc, there are arguments either way and ultimately each qb is different

there is no sure fire development procedure

even if letting bortles sit makes next to no difference to his mechanics watching the game, going through plays and getting mental reps and learning from hennes mistakes can only help him.

I mean lets be honest today, we could be sitting with bortles having thrown two picks if things hadn't gone his way.

he was by no means perfect and with his work ethic I can only see time on the practice field improving him as a qb.

Added putting a more unified line in front of him and hence a more solid run game will only help and receivers with more experience and a better rapport will only make his transition to starter easier.

If we were superbowl contenders with a talent laden squad I'd be all in but we're not

we are a young team with potential. Why rush when waiting could create a better product for the next 10 years

Maybe because we could be a lot better now?
Good effort on staying up for the preseason, I remember those days before I moved to Oz.

I understand what you are saying, but Bortles looks so ready, he would be starting on merit not just thrown out there like Gabbert. If these were 2 vets, there would be no discussion, Bortles would be starting. He also seems mentally mature, I don't see any risk in starting him.

Also with Bortles we can make the playoffs this year, is that not worth playing for? We are in the worst division in the NFL

In a few minutes, ESPN's  Sportscenter will have a discussion whether Borltes is ready to start.

No matter how many times you say it, these guys literally can't see past this season.
