Quote:Wow. You're right...I would have never guessed that. Just checked his career stats and he threw 23 picks in his 4th year and has thrown 15 or more in 7 seasons. Of course he throws for 4000 yards and 30+ TDs every year. I'll take those numbers.
exactly and let me be clear in not comparing Bortles to Manning... I'm just saying it's about perspective.

I take it they basically combined the mock game and the scrimmage into one event?

Thank you. There aren't and won't be too many Mannings in the NFL. God how I hated him when he came to town and flat out just made us look stupid. Never were we comfortable with a lead when playing him.

But the interesting thing is... He's not overly athletic. He doesn't throw a pretty ball. He doesn't have a huge arm. He can't rely on getting out of the pocket, even looking clumsy sometimes.

So. Why is he so good? The guy studies the game and loves it like nobody else. He has learned and keeps learning through constant film review.

I believe there can be another Manning, but this guy has to be all about football 365, 24, 7. Not concerned with individuality and a hunger to win and a quest for perfection... Which never happens, but makes the quest a continuous goal.

I now feel fortunate to have watched him perform here and witness one of the best ever...and am also glad he's out of our division.

Can Bortles be the next? Why not? But it won't be over night and his drive and ambition are the factor. He has the tools.
Starting QB should be announced after 3rd preseason game

They did that months ago. You're just not listening.

So if Henne plays like #2 during the pre-season you think they'll let him start week 1 because they verbally committed to him months ago?
I dont care how crappy Henne plays until the O Line is consistenly protecting the qb there is no reason to start Bortles
Start the best guy. If they both look bad-mediocre you start Henne. If one is clearly giving the team the best chance to win that's who should start I don't care what was said or how much money is going out.

Half of these fools aren't listening. They still think there is a competition between Bortles and Henne. Such a competition does not exist, except in the minds of the simpletons who refuse to listen to the organization. Once they feel Bortles has learned enough about the professional game, and has progressed enough in his knowledge and technique, he will be installed as the starter. Henne simply is not part of that equation. The blowhards can keep wishing all they want, but the team has their own direction about this, which has been unwavering. Some just refuse to accept it. They make themselves easily identifiable, so no need to name names.

I don't know what to say... an honest opinion regarding Peyton Manning from a Jaguar fan that is pretty much spot on.  I've always thought pretty much the same thing about him.  It's not that he has any special physical talent, it's more related to his mental talent.  Of course, he has plenty of room in that head of his to store the knowledge...  :woot:

exactly.. The best thing Bortles can do is make them seriously rethink what they said by his play on the field.
Lets me say this again.  Preseason is no measure on how a player performs.  Gabbert was a preseason all pro but when the big lights came on he just stunk.  Henne will be the starter because he knows the offense. I look at it like maybe the defense is playing really well and Henne has receivers out.

The other good news is this team will probably be a solid defensive team.  The bottom line is defense wins championships.

Troy Williamson led all WRs in the preseason for us if I remember correctly. ..and did nothing else.
Russell Wilson blew it up in preseason and one the starting job. It works both ways. Trust me, it matters but it should be taken with a grain of salt sometimes.

Troy Williamson was injured in the preseason or early in the season as well and didn't play again IIRC

You can play this game both ways.

Quote:I went last night. It was kinda boring.
I agree.....we left a little early.  Overall a good experience.  I actually enjoy the open practices more.
