Quote:Here's the issue: This man is not famous at all for any merit on a football field. Almost nobody would know his name if he were not gay--which I find convenient to the extreme.

Sam's jersey is the second most popular among rookies because he is gay.

He is getting a reality show because he is gay.

For all we know, he may have been drafted because he is gay. He complained, insinuating that he wasn't drafted earlier because he was gay. That's one hell of a slippery slope.

A player ON ANOTHER TEAM voices a negative opinion of his lifestyle, and is sent to REHAB or whatever it's called, for crying out loud.

He has a built in excuse for when he is cut, and based on the evidence here, he'll probably use it. There will be outcry by the homosexual community if he is released. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly eat my crow, but based on what has transpired so far, is it really that far fetched?
This is very true

And all of that just makes you so mad you had to let the internet know?
I hope he gets cut.

Quote:Well he came out to his team before the season. He didn't do it in front of cameras until he was already named DPOY.
So there are multiple stages to this coming out thing. So confusing.
Quote:Wants WHAT to be about football?

I understand the point you are trying to make, but the two things are completely unrelated.
Not at all? If he wanted this whole thing to be about football, which he has said ad nauseam, then he never would of agreed to this Oprah reality show. Before the draft no less, and on top of that tell none of the teams.
Quote:He lived in the closet as far as his football team was concerned, we don't know much about his life before then. Anyway, imagine a life where you can't be yourself, that you feel you must be in a closet. I'm not projecting anything here, just pondering the possibilities behind his motivation.

I'm surprised you even watch Maher, but you and he are correct, there is a gay mafia, just like there is a media-driven mafia behind just about every political or social agenda. But aren't we a part of that just by commenting on it?

My point is that if he has an agenda, so what? He is in a profession in which his destiny is controlled. He could not choose where he works, or for whom. All he can control is his effort and how his story is told. All he has is verbal assurances that he will be given a fair shot, nobody told him before the draft exactly when he would be drafted or how much money he will make, or even assured him he would make anything beyond any guaranteed money provided by his contract. He's grabbing what he can, while he can. It's the American way, no?
I agree, but he keeps saying he doesn't want his agenda to do about him being gay. He wants it all about football.
Quote:Didn't Terrell Owens have a reality show while he was playing football?
Whether yes or no is not the point here. Sam keeps claiming he wants it all about football. Sam is lying.
Quote:And all of that just makes you so mad you had to let the internet know?
It's a message board. He's replying just like you. How this works.
Quote:And all of that just makes you so mad you had to let the internet know?

I'm not mad, in any regard, at all.  Is this, or is this not, a discussion board for the NFL?  Did I miss the sign where it said, "Oklahomie's opinions ONLY?"

He said that he wanted to be judged as a football player, but he's being judged as anything but, and he is (at least partly) to blame for that.

How do you know Sam is lying?  How do you know it isn't about Football to him anyway?  He's said that he wants his story to inspire other gay athletes to get into Football, and not have to hide who they are to everyone.

Besides he just gave the answer that most players give.  "It's all about football!"  Yeah, right.  I'm sure those paychecks have no place on their minds.

So you have no problem with this and just wanted to sum it up for everyone to be able to see and had no point to make at all?

Okay, got it.

How's he supposed to make being gay about football? And what exactly is "this whole thing"?
He struck a deal with Visa, had a press conference all to himself, now is getting a reality show, all for a 7th round player. Yeah, Rashad Jennings, Tiquan Underwood, and Storm Johnson should be getting shows then. You're right, this has nothing to do with him being gay. A deaf player just won the super bowl, and all he got was an article written on him on Yahoo. Where is his reality show?
Michael Sam is cashing in while he can, because he realizes he's very limited as a football player and has a very slim chance of becoming anything in the NFL.

Can't say I blame him for going after the money while he can...
Quote:Whether yes or no is not the point here. Sam keeps claiming he wants it all about football. Sam is lying.

I don't understand this.

Sam wants what, exactly, to be all about football?

Are you suggesting that he's not allowed to do anything outside of football?
Michael Sam did what was best for everyone involved by announcing his homosexuality before the draft so rumors and innuendos weren't flying around on draft day. He put it out there in the open so he could answer all the questions with honesty while permitting the teams to make an informed decision on draft day. They knew what they were getting in to if they drafted Sam. They knew there would be a circus. They knew the cameras would be clicking relentlessly. And everyone knows that once the fireworks are over it's back to football.

He couldn't have done it any better.

So you think he signed the Oprah deal before the draft thinking it was going to be a show about him regarding football ?
Quote:How's he supposed to make being gay about football? And what exactly is "this whole thing"?
This whole thing is him breaking a barrier which on its own is fine but then don't say you want it "all about football"

Say what you mean, mean what you say.

No, I never said that

If he's putting 100% into football, what is the difference? The reality show is about him away from the field. If Sam concentrates on his job, the show could be no more distracting than Hard Knocks.
