Quote:At the same time, you can't have QB fear.  Right now our starting Quarterback for next year is Chad Henne.  He'll probably end up starting the year.  And that's fine.  But having a guy who can beat him out would be nice.  If you keep waiting for THE guy, you might wind up like the Jaguars are now.  Where choosing Blaine Gabbert will set you back a few years.
Actually right now the starting QB is BG unless they resign henne. Caldwell comes from the Polian line of thinking Big Arm Tall Pocket passers, This draft only Bridgwater might fit that (not really tall) the other high ranking QBs are mostly mobile QB and i dont think Caldwell likes the Running QB type. I may be wrong but he may grab someone like Mccarron or Murry in the later rounds if they are around or find him a nice FA to sign.
Quote:I know you were, but my point is you have nothing of substance to imply that Caldwell may not have what it takes to move down in the 1st round if need be..  "the inability to find a trade partner" was primarily because there was no RG3 at #2 last year.  Im sure he had calls about trading up, but noone was willing to give anything substantial for us to move down.  THAT was the reason we didn't trade down, and everyone knows it.  You, of course, like to casually imply it's because Caldwell runs his mouth too much.

Not saying its definitely because Caldwell is too transparent.....however, I'm also not discounting that possibility either. I've seen 1st round deals go down in the past that were nice trade downs that weren't of the benefit of having the "RG3" being there at the pick. I'm guessing it was more the benefit of whatever team that was there at the pick being good poker players and keeping the rest of the league guessing as to what their intentions were.

By mobile I'm pretty sure he meant Aaron rodgers/Russell Wilson. Mobile pocket passers to be exact. Like Carr, Bortles and to some extent Teddy are the mobile qbs in the upcoming draft.
Why, Why, Why, Why, do people still feed this troll?

Lets stick to the topic of the presser please, some interesting notes from just reading the article:

He is going to sign some higher priced FAs. Said he wont bring in many guys but expects a higher impact.

Looks like we stumbled upon our RT of the future. Paztor as been solid but needs some help with speed rushers.

Theres no reason to cut Paul/Marcedes right now. Paying their dead money and finding a replacement will cost the same as keeping them. And no need to create more holes this year. Next year when the roster is filling out is a different story though. I still expect us to draft a couple LBs and a TE.

Coaching the SR Bowl is a huge plus. The past draft showed how good of an evaluator Dave is, and with so many extra middle round picks I bet he finds a few gems because of being able to see the players up close for a week.

Cant wait for the draft, Im going to try and save up some money to go.

I/ we were discussing topics included in this presser.

But thats right, it wasn't "positive", so you rendered it as off topic/ feeding the troll.

Your post seems like a huge PR machine. Everythings great!!!, huh?

I expect Blaine and mjd gone, henne retained. The rest build through draft. I get the feeling Caldwell will take best pick of need at 3. We will have a new QB though. For sure drafted high, 1st or second round.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of trading for that QB of the future, if need be.

Someone like a Ryan Mallett for example.

I really would not mind it at all if Caldwell took a chance on Mallet.

Dude has so much talent, it is sickening that he is sitting on the bench.

I would easily give up a 3rd for him.

You're literally the only person that is bringing up Ryan Mallett.  Why would the Patriots trade him, especially if they like him?  Tom Brady has gone down before, so having a good backup seems smart.

I wouldn't mind Mallett, but he hasn't done anything since being drafted (yes, bc he sits behind Brady).  It would suck to trade for him and he turns out a huge disappointment.

If we could get Mallet for a third I would be all over that.

I mean, we took Anger with a third.

Even if it didn't turn out good, you wouldn't be losing much.

Mallet has got to be becoming a free agent soon anyways doesn't he?
Mallet will be a free agent after the 2014 season.  I wouldn't mind trading for him if the club had some kind of option to add another year if we wanted to (if he performs well).  Last thing you want is to give up a draft pick, he plays for a season and then leaves as a free agent somewhere else.

I'd like Caldwell to get Vick, give him a o line, keep him up,straight, he will make us competitive.
And let's be clear - Mallet hasn't done anything to warrant some kind of high draft pick.  I wouldn't offer anything more than a 4th round pick.

Even in the pre-season games he's looked very mediocre.

If that is the case, then they should just wait until he hits the open market.

Hard pass, hard pass, hard pass

Anger is a starter, Mallet could turn out to be another Matt Flynn.

Anger is a punter, Mallet could turn out to be Dan Marino.  See what I did there.
Something Caldwell said that stood out to me -

Q:  Which might you see improving more in the offseason the running game or the pass rush.

A:  Running game.  With the ability to draft  some O-line players in the mid rounds and some of the O-line players likely available in free agency - coupled with another year in the system for the guys here - we should get better there.

(tells us a bit about his possible approach to shoring up the o-line - and it may mean he'll draft a pass rusher before signing a FA there)

I'm all for shoring up the oline
And the more I think about it, the less of a draft pick I'd offer them for Mallet.

Mallet will leave after next year, barring a Brady injury.  Barring a Brady injury, their former 3rd pick will have literally done nothing up there but hold a clipboard for 4 years.

I say you offer them maybeee a 5th round pick right before the trade deadline.  More like a 6th.  Take it or leave it.  If someone else is willing to rent a QB for a higher draft choice, so be it.
