Quote:Something Caldwell said that stood out to me -

Q:  Which might you see improving more in the offseason the running game or the pass rush.

A:  Running game.  With the ability to draft  some O-line players in the mid rounds and some of the O-line players likely available in free agency - coupled with another year in the system for the guys here - we should get better there.

(tells us a bit about his possible approach to shoring up the o-line - and it may mean he'll draft a pass rusher before signing a FA there)

I mean if clowneys there....doubt they pass. We lost bridgewater
Quote:I wouldn't rule out the possibility of trading for that QB of the future, if need be.

Someone like a Ryan Mallett for example.

Nope.
Quote:I really would not mind it at all if Caldwell took a chance on Mallet.

Dude has so much talent, it is sickening that he is sitting on the bench.

I would easily give up a 3rd for him.

The problem here is that Capt. Hoodie gets players like Mallet for 3rd round picks, he doesn't give them up.
Quote:And the more I think about it, the less of a draft pick I'd offer them for Mallet.

Mallet will leave after next year, barring a Brady injury.  Barring a Brady injury, their former 3rd pick will have literally done nothing up there but hold a clipboard for 4 years.

I say you offer them maybeee a 5th round pick right before the trade deadline.  More like a 6th.  Take it or leave it.  If someone else is willing to rent a QB for a higher draft choice, so be it.

Kind of hard to do something when you are playing behind arguably one of the top 5 QBs of all time.
Quote:I/ we were discussing topics included in this presser.

But thats right, it wasn't "positive", so you rendered it as off topic/ feeding the troll.

Your post seems like a huge PR machine. Everythings great!!!, huh?

Everything is great. I cant take anyone who actually thinks teams tank seriously. So pls go.

Very true.  I am thinking in terms of me being in fairy tale land.  They prob wouldn't accept just a third for him.
When was the last time a traded backup qb became a franchise qb? Like became a top 10 qb in the league or some sort. No I don't want the Matt schaub of the worlds. I think it was favre and brunell. But in the last 10 years was schaub the best?

What's their choice?  Let Mallet sit behind Brady for another year and walk for nothing?  Cuz that's what he'll do once next year is up.

Would drew breese be considered a back up in San Diego? When did Brady take over in New ENgland only a couple i can think of . sorry Brady wanst traded .

Ryan Mallet has legit elite QB talent.  It isn't his fault he is playing behind Tom Brady.

Besides Cam Newton he was the most talented QB coming out of that draft.  Think he had "character issues" which caused him to drop.

And he is kind of slow.
The Patriots would be smart to get anything they can for Mallet now and use that pick to build around Brady.  He only has a few years left and they should put all their ammunition into getting another SB win.

It's unrealistic to expect they will re-sign Mallet who will sit for another 3-4 years before getting his chance.  Mallet as a Patriot is done.  It's hist last year of his contract coming up.  He was a 3rd round pick... now, 4 years later, to expect another 3rd round pick for a guy who has done NOTHING is crazy.  They're not getting a 3rd for him.

A lot of guys have legit talent.  Blaine had legit QB talent... we'd be lucky to get a 7th round pick for him.

Mallet has been very mediocre in the preseason games he's played.  It's not like he's lit up the world in the limited time he's played for the Patriots.

A team wanting to trade for him does kind of have the leverage since he is becoming a free agent after the 2014 season.  It is a tricky situation with Mallet.  You give up a third for him, he does great, you pretty much have to sign him long term, with the risk that he might have been a one hit wonder.
Why are people obsessed with Ryan Mallet? He went in the 3rd round for a reason... and has done nothing in his career. Why dont people talk about other random 3rd round back ups like they do about Mallet

Drew Brees was a FA after they drafted rivers from what I remember.

exactly - so trading a 3rd for him would be unwise.  Especially a high 3rd rounder like we have.

Legit ELITE QB talent.  I have seen Gabbert look great in preseason.  If there is anything I have learned watching football, it is that preseason is the biggest joke of all when evaluating players.

Mallet hasn't been exposed in the NFL yet, so people still have the belief that he could be a really good QB like he was at Arkansas.  It would be pure conjecture, pure guesswork... which is why I don't see people trading a 3rd round pick or higher for him.

If he fell to the 3rd round, that means other GMs who had a chance to draft him passed on him at least twice.  Why would those same GMs now offer a 3rd round pick for a guy who hasn't proven to be anything better than what those GMs thought initially?  Granted, he hasn't had a chance to showcase his stuff except for the preseason games in which he was mediocre.

If those same GMs who passed on him are interested now, I guarantee you they're talking about lower round picks for Mallet.

Ok can we settle this argument right now.  He has done nothing in his career b/c he is backing up Tom Brady.  Are the Patriots going to bench Tom Brady.

Why was Russell Wilson a third rounder?

Tom Brady was a 6th rounder for a reason also.

The same reason people were obsessed with Kevin Kolb, Matt Cassel, and Kirk Cousins. They are content with mediocre quarterbacks.
