Quote:I think the Seahawks will lock up Bennett. And I don't really envision Watkins going past the Raiders (not saying they don't need a LT).
Quote:Here is my latest idea, and it also involves trading back.
Minnesota is desperate for a QB. I think they take no chances and will want to jump over Cleveland and Oakland to grab a QB of their choice after Bortles goes #1 to Houston. They could even trade up with St. Louis to get ahead of the Jags, but for the sake of the trade scenario we will say they give us their 2nd round pick to move up from #8 to #3. Atlanta also trades up to get Clowney.
1. HOU - QB B. Bortles
2. ATL - DE J. Clowney (from STL)
3. MIN - QB T. Bridgewater (from JAC)
4. CLE - QB J. Manziel
5. OAK - OT G. Robinson
6. STL - OT J. Matthews (from ATL)
7. TAM - OLB K. Mack
8. JAC - WR S. Watkins (from MIN) -explosive, star player we need badly, will make whatever QB look good
9. BUF - OT T. Lewan
10. DET - CB D. Dennard
39. JAC - QB D. Carr (pair him with Watkins for some big plays, no pressure to start day 1)
40. JAC - OC T. Swanson (starter day 1)
Rnd 3 - RB L. Seastrunk (starter day 1)
Free Agency - DE Michael Bennett
The rest of the draft would hopefully land some quality depth at CB, LB and DL.
I think I'd like this draft.
D. Carr is going to be horrible at the next level...he seems to fold like a chair at the first sign of pressure...and he is going to get tons more pressure in the NFL than he ever did in college.
Yeah Id rather stay far away from Carr.

mock 7.0
1. Houston Texans (2-14) - Blake Bortles QB
I am differing back to Bortles here. He did what he had too at the combine. The Texans owner laughed at Manziel’s threat to the Texans organization, so I don’t believe Manziel is their guy. Bridgewater or Bortles here.
2. St. Louis Rams (Skins 3-13) - Greg Robinson OT
Im not sure that the Falcons will try to bite on a trade at #2. I think the Rams may have lost some leverage with the QB's of this years class dropping in stock. I think the Falcons would rather sit tight and watch Clowney fall to 3. Rams, with no viable offers take Robinson.
3. *TRADE* Atlanta Falcons (4-12) - Jadeveon Clowney DE
Atlanta Falcons trade 1st Round, 2nd Round, 4th Round and 2015 2nd Round to Jaguars for Jaguars 1st Round selection. Jags stock pile picks including a high selection in next years draft.
4. Cleveland Browns (4-12) - Teddy Bridgewater QB
Browns are reportedly in love with Carr, but I assume thats their option if Bridgewater is gone. Teddy will have a warm welcome to the defenses of the Steelers, Bengals, and Ravens. Good luck with that.
5. Oakland Raiders (4-12) - Johnny Manziel QB
I have been mocking Watkins to the Raiders, but I definitely don't see them passing up on Johnny. Johnny will provide a much needed spark to that franchise.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-12) - Khalil Mack DE
Why take a QB now? We still have a couple years till we can be a playoff team. Khalil Mack is a straight up difference maker. I haven't been a fan until recently. I've been watching some cut-ups on him, and wow he makes an impact on almost every single play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb1nhZliuqc . My favorite clip of him. Seriously made non-stop plays in that game. Why take a chance with Clowney when you know you'll get elite production out of Mack? He'll brake the defensive sacks record for a rookie, I'm certain of it. I've been on the Bridgewater train for a while now. But, I honestly can't pin point a game where he has just been lights out (other than the infamous Orangebowl Game).
7. Tampa Bay Buccs (4-12) - Jake Matthews OT
8. Minnesota Vikings (5-10-1) - Justin Gilbert CB

You know, it's going to suck to not get one of the top 3 QB's in the first round, and to have to put up with watching Henne start again this year, BUT this is exactly where I am thinking the Jags are headed in the draft. We almost have to trade down and double up on interior line in round 2 now. And I kind of hope somebody else picks Clowney and his baggage, so we end up with Mack later. Been saying this a while. I think they target another starting DE and another starting OG in Free Agency too. Being a Georgia fan, I like the pick of Aaron Murray here, but I think the Jags might try to get McCarron or Garoppolo in the 3rd though.
Also, if Marquise Lee lasted that long, I'd look for Denver to try to trade up with possibly Arizonza to snag him to replace Eric Decker, who is probably leaving the team in Free Agency. Can you imagine? Demaryious Thomas, Lee, Wes Welker and TE J. Thomas with Manning throwing to them. Another record year...until they face the Seahawks again.
Caldwell's focus of draft now becoming a little more clear. Not sure he is in love with any of the top QB's at #3, and not sure he wants the risk of Clowney busting. If his buddies from Atlanta call him to trade up for Clowney, Caldwell won't hesitate to move down. He is almost still guaranteed to get DE Mack, WR Watkins or one of the top 3 QB's at #6, AND an extra pick early in round 2, where several interior line starters and quality WR's can be found. Unfortunately, Jag fans may still have to watch Henne start, and maybe even see Gabbert in teal one more year, but the building blocks and core will be looking a lot better.

Rnd 2 - OG David Yankey, Stanford (starter at LOG beside Joeckel for next decade
Rnd 3 - OC Travis Swanson, Arkansas (dropped slightly, will be a steal here and a quality starter at Center)
Rnd 4 - RB Leche Seastrunk, Baylor (starter from day 1, rotates with Todman)
Rnd4 - QB Z. Mettenberger, LSU or A. Murray, UGA (finally a QB, but could sit out most of year and develop)
Remaining picks - Defensive depth
Free Agency: Sign a starting OG and starting DE
My latest thoughts on first round:
1. HOU - QB B. Bortles (Texans take QB of the future over bust-risk Clowney)
2. STL - OT G. Robinson (upside of this athletic beast too good to pass up for Rams)
3. ATL - DE J. Clowney (from JAC) (Clowney gets his wish, and Falcons get their stud DE)
4. CLE - QB T. Bridgewater (Browns bluff of favoring Carr over other QB’s works)
5. OAK - OT J. Matthews (Raiders pass on Manziel for the most NFL-ready prospect of 2014)
6. JAC - DE K. Mack (from ATL) (The defensive playmaker & pass rusher Jags need desperately)
7. TAM - WR S. Watkins (Sammy paired with V-Jack could be a scary combo for opposing DB’s)
8. MIN - QB J. Manziel (Vikings hope Johnny can be a modern day Fran Tarkenton)
9. BUF - OLB A. Barr (Could be WR Mike Evans here, but OLB a big need and BAP)
10. DET - CB D. Dennard (Lions take home-state shut-down CB without hesitation)
11. TEN – CB J. Gilbert (CB Alterraun Verner expected to leave in Free Agency)
12. NYG - OT T. Lewan (Biggest priority for G-men is to protect declining Eli Manning)
13. STL – WR M. Evans (Rams would be ecstatic if Evans made it to them here)
14. CHI - DT A. Donald (Impressive DT suits Bears needs just fine)
15. PIT – FS H. Clinton-Dix (Steelers need OLB, but can pass up help at Safety)
16. DAL – DT T. Jernigan (Cowboys grab solid DT for their worn-out D-line)
17. BAL - LB C.J. Mosley (Ravens built around their LB’s and upgrade with Mosley)
18. NYJ - WR M. Lee (Lee should be a lock to Jets if still available here)
19. MIA - OT Z. Martin (Will the Dolphins dare take any other position in round 1?)
20. ARI - OLB D. Ford (The Cardinals are a wildcard here, and could trade down)
21. G.B.- TE E. Ebron (Jamarcus Finley not expected back, and Ebron would be a great fit)
22. PHI - FS C. Pryor (Safety has been penciled-in to the Eagles for months now)
23. K.C.- WR O. Beckham Jr (Dynamic WR/KR adds to already talented offense)
24. CIN - OLB R. Shazier (May be a slight reach, but James Harrison is on his last legs)

31. DEN - DE K. Ealy (Could be a WR here to replace Decker, but Ealy too talented to pass up)
32. SEA – TE J. Amaro (The rich get richer as last piece of the offensive puzzle falls in place)
P.S. Is it sad that I have almost memorized the entire draft order?
Round 2 notes: Jags take a WR (Allen Robinson?) and an OG (Su'a-Filo or Yankey) in round 2 with extra pick from Atlanta. QB David Carr goes to Oakland. Denver takes WR Donte Moncrief or Jordan Matthews at end or round 2 to replace Eric Decker, and rookie WR catches 10 TD passes.

Good mock. I had to guess where Watkins might land if the Raiders don't take him. It would be interesting for the Vikings to take a flyer on Manziel, perhaps Spielman will make another attempt at over drafting a QB. I think Spielman knows he's on thin ice so Im not sure he would take a chance. Would be surprised if Koundjio is still a 1st round pick after his disastrous combine.
It's just odd not mocking a QB to the Jaguars, but it truly does seem that we will have to wait a couple years till we invest in one.

Yeah, I thought about that for the Vikings also, but they are desperate for a new QB. If they don't trade up, Manziel or Carr, both bust prospects, will be their guy. Maybe Garoppolo in the 2nd I guess. I can see some Vikings fans comparing Manziel to their hero of yester-year, Tarkenton. Great legs, decent arm, just a playmaker. I have swapped Koundjio and Morgan Moses back and forth between 1st and 2nd round several times now.
On the Jags, yes it is odd not to give them a QB, but none are a sure thing again, and we still need building blocks at so many other positions If Henne is resigned, expect him to be the starter on opening day. If we don't trade down, and Clowney is gone, I see Caldwell taking Mack over Bridewater or Manziel, but possibly taking Bortles over Mack. We really need that extra round 2 pick to rebuild the interior O-line though.

I like the trade and taking Mack in the 1st. Also like Yankey in the 2nd and Swanson in the 3rd. However, I'd take the best q.b. available in the 2nd round- either
McCarron or Garrapalo. Instead of Robinson in the 2nd, I'd take a receiver in the 4th as it's a very deep position and, as a Penn State fan, I have a feeling Robinson will be a bust in the pros. He was a great college receiver who was a mismatch against most cornerbacks, but he runs lazy routes which will hurt him in the pros.

Thanks for the insight on Allen. We are going to need starter-quality WR either in Free Agency or the draft though. I don't see Blackmon contributing, Shorts is always a question mark with injuries, and Sanders is purely slot. I am pretty much convinced Henne will be our starter this year if we don't take a QB at the top of the 1st round anyways. We also NEED a RB to start. Therefore, unfortunately QB gets pushed back some.
Here is a new take on my guesses. Not ideal for the QB situation. This is with us trading back to #6 and picking up the extra round 2 pick from Atlanta:
Rnd 1 - WR Sammy Watkins, Clemson
Rnd 2 - OG David Yankey, Stanford
Rnd 2 - DE Scott Crighton, Oregon State
Rnd 3 - OC Travis Swanson, Arkansas
Rnd 4 - RB Leche Seastrunk, Baylor
Rnd 4 - LB Christian Jones, FSU
Rnd 5 - QB Aaron Murray or Zack Mettenberger (both may be gone I know)
Rnd 5 - BAP DB
Rnd 5 -WR Jeff Janis, Saginaw Valley St
Rnd 6 - DE Michael Sam, Missouri (This will really bring some media attention to Jax, LOL)
Rnd 7 - QB Tom Savage, Pitt

As bad as Jax needs a QB, I wouldn't mind this scenario at all.. Watkins & Seastruck could be a deadly combo.. And am I the only one who can see Murray being a successful NFL QB on this board? Yeah he's hurt, but he has the tangibles to get it done.. Not trying to sound masochistic, but his injury could be a God Send to the Jags if they take him in the later rounds and he proves to be a good QB..

Agreed. If we couldn't get a QB high in the draft I would love for the Jags to be able to pick up Murray.

Yep, and can you imagine if Blackmon was able to get his life on track and did come back for most of the season? Blackmon, Watkins, Shorts and Sanders in the slot would be one of the best WR line-ups in the NFL. Henne would be in hog heaven with that group a fortified interior O-line. Would make almost any QB look good...except Gabbert probably.

The major issue that I have with Murray is his height and the effect that it has had on his passing. He has worked behind some massive Offensive Lines and all, but he's also struggled with batted passes. I think he has a lot of tools that will make him effective, I just worry that he may end up wasting downs due to his passes getting swatted into the dirt.

*The Texans give the Chargers their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks for #25 to draft Manziel after he falls. Texans come away with Clowney AND Manziel.
**While I'd rather have Mack or Watkins for instant impact this year, I would not be mad if Bridgewater was the pick for the Jags. And Yankey in round 2 would really help re-build the interior line.

32. *Trade* Jacksonville Jaguars
- Johnny Manziel QB
Jacksonville trades 2nd Round, 4th Round, and 5th round for Seahawks 1st Round Pick
I'm expected Johnny to fall because of just the nature of this draft. So much talent at every position, I expect many teams to pursue other quarterback options versus taking a flyer on Johnny. It will be a Tebow fail all over again, except with different results in the end.
Jaguars:
1st Round Khalil Mack OLB
1st Round Johnny Manziel QB
3rd Round Travis Swanson C
4th Round Lache Seastrunk HB
5th Round Deandre Coleman DT
5th Round Crockett Gilmore TE
6th Round Kevin Norwood WR
7th Round Charles Sawyer S
Tebow fail with different results in the end? Whaaat?
