The Jags and football is an entertainment product. If the product is good and enjoyable, the consumer will spend the money. I understand that the team needed to go into rebuilding once again, in hopes of building a sustainable winning team in the hopeful near future (less than 4 years that Gene demanded). My growing issue with this team is that they left nearly $20 million in cap room unused this year . This cap room could have been used to better this roster. Yes, there were not many "A" players in free agency this year; however, there were many players in free agency that would have been upgrades to the roster today.
As an entertainment product that wants me to spend very hard earned money today, I am starting to have an issue with a message of basically "our product sucks now and isn't very entertaining, but keep spending money on my bad and inferior product because it will be good in the future". Normally, I would stomach the "it sucks now but just be patient" message as being part of being a loyal fan. However, this has now been the repeated message from this team for 4 years now. I will continue to be a multi-ticket season ticket holder (from the Jag's inception) this year, but my patience will run out very soon if the entertainment product with its hand in my pocket does not become more enjoyable.
Quote:Avoiding the question is fun, No one said you had to sign Daryl Smith to a long term contract, who would serve us better Hayes or Smith?
Smith v. Hayes, it's not a big difference. But one is five years younger.

Ok we can just agree to disagree I see a BIG difference between Smith and Hayes..........

But you don't see an upgrade from Joeckel over Whimper. Ok.

Not yet, there's the potential sure, (better be for the 2nd overall pick) but right now he's playing like a rookie that needs a lot of help.
Potential never guarantees success, I expect and hope him to be 100x better, he's not yet.

Write off Fisher and Johnson too

No one's writing them off, just not rubber stamping them as upgrades until they prove something.
If the OP of this thread only had 1 post it would have been laughed at and died out within 1 page. Just because stupidity is posted by someone with a lot of posts does not mean you have to respond to it.
Saying that Whimper isnt worse than Joekel is right now is beyond hilarious btw. When people make statements like these just drop the debate, not worth wasting your breath.

You are beyond clueless if you really believe this. Joeckel has been a huge upgrade over that blackhole we've at right tackle with Bradfield/Whimper/Britton. If you want to know the problem on the line, look inside at Rackley.

Well said!

Says the guy who see's little difference between Hayes and Smith

There isn't a big difference.

Having Daryl Smith here would have been great but would have changed little (I'd argue nothing) as far as this season goes. Geno Hayes is going to get us a similar result and is younger. I don't thinl having Daryl Smith here woild have gotten us any more wins or scored us more points on offense.
Our problem is not and will not be on the defensive side of the ball. The defense will need a few additions and tweaks but I'm convinced this defense will be good enough if the offense was improved. Next year will be Caldwell's chance to improve the offense. He has to, of not, his leash will shorten. Why didn't he address the offense more this year? That's a matter of opinion and I would be happy to offer mine but that will wait until morning.
Goodnight Jags fans, better days will be ahead. History tells us so

Why not have both Hayes and Smith and leave Russell Allen as the back up? I was talking the other week with someone and the reply was you want to know what you have for the future. Does anyone think Allen is the answer at LB?
Agree with the other poster, the interior line has to do something. I'm hoping its Rackley's ankle, but I suspect he is another Gene bust, and Meester is just a little too long in the tooth at this point.

Allen was still under contract. Smith was a free agent.
Quote:I don't think Joeckel or Cyprien are better than Bradfield and Landry yet. Hopefully they will be soon.
Linebacker is only true if you consider Bosworth the Starter instead of Daryl Smith.
DT's are better than last year, but not as good as 2011 when Knighton was healthy.
The only position I'd consider better at this point is slot receiver.
You're drunk if you don't think Joekel is already better than whimper or bradenfield.
Either that or willfully saying something ignorant. Whimper was bad on EVERY play. Joekel has had like 2-3 bad moments in each game.
Cyprien already makes plays, which is more than Landry ever did.

Anyone I repeast Anyone who endorsed Gene Smith after year 2 has 0 credibility. There are a ton of replyers on this very topic that was all gung ho gene smith and insulted anyone who talked bad about the man or his "plan."
Gene Smith was given 4 years to build this team and failed miserablly. Over his regime this team went 22-42 over that period. Goind 2-14 should get most GM's fired. Gene Smith flat out sucked no matter how you cut it.
Caldwell had to come in here and clean up a garbage dump of a roster. This team lacks QB, DE, CB,Oline,Dline, and secondary talent before Caldwell inherited this roster.
Gus and Caldwell's message was not to focus on the win/loss record but to just get better every week. So far this team has gotten better every week with solid play from some of Caldwells draftees.
I don't think you can really blame caldwell or gus 3 games into the season. I do hate that gus seems too much like Tony Robbins but he has proven he can coach a defense if he has the talent. Caldwell also comes from a long line of a successful pedigree.
If we're not .500 after 3 seasons then we can panic
