But these moves have the feel that they changed their minds about something/someone still out there.

ASJ changed their minds. Had they been unable to sign him, Lewis would still be here.

Perhaps.

But at his age, Lewis may not have survived (without being cut, that is) training camp.

It must mean they are ready to sign Luke Wilson. ASJ, Wilson, Paul and a rookie? I like it.

The timing isn't weird, they got a replacement TE in ASJ and they saw no further need for Lewis. If they had failed to sign ASJ they would have likely kept Lewis.

Well, sure, ASJ is taking over the #1 spot, but we don't have anyone noteworthy behind him. Lewis's option was less than $4M; it seems smarter just to keep him until someone better shows up.

They're probably doing him a favor, knowing they'll likely go TE early in the draft.
Lewis isn't young anymore. So it makes sense.

Still, I think the Jags could have dealt with it a bit better. He's been on this team so long.

Why do they have to trade for someone? They released Hurns and Lewis because it didn't make sense to have either of those guys on the roster, considering how loaded the receiver and TE position is now.

Honestly, loaded is not what I would call our receiving core.

Going after Ndamukong

Not sure I would like that. Guy is talented, but hes the kind of influence this team really doesn't need. The anti-campbell if you will.

At least let him battle it out against the others. I guess they wanted to move on and utilize mainly pass-catchers instead.

They picked up his options because there weren't any other competent TE's on the roster at the time. When they signed Niles Paul and ASJ Lewis became expendable, that's the business of professional sports.

Paul hasn't been productive since 2015 and that was in only productive season.

All I'm saying is that he's too cheap not to keep until someone better comes along. I don't think, at the moment, we've seen enough from Paul to suggest that.

Loaded? How are we loaded. We signed a guy who had 300 yards last year (i.e. LESS than Hurns for 9 million guaranteed), and allowed ARob to walk. We have lost our two most historically productive receivers. I feel good about Cole Dede, but I wouldn't describe us anywhere near loaded. Lossing the only guys who have gone over 1k in the last decade makes me very cautious on counting on potential.
Koyak and O'Shaugnessy are still on the roster too, don't forget. Leadership sure will be different in the locker room this season. No POZ, Lewis, and Hurns.

I feel that way too, the guy deserved better.
The giraffe is finally gone.

Koyack is not listed on the roster as of 1:10pm today.

Loaded in terms of the number "bodies" we have at the position, they weren't going to dress 5 receivers.

Yup, ruthless. Will he one day come back to sign a 1 day contract to retire as a Jaguar and have a ceremony at halftime.

Of course.
I actually don't like this move but it is what it is and I'll continue to trust their process in that building. Lewis did deserve a little bit better though. I completely understand why he's pissed off.

Honestly as one the few guys who wants to play on our team, I think we should have just kept him. Hes still an excellent blocker. Life moves on tho. I have a feeling some of our former recieving core will end up finding their way to the pats.
@ryano Lewis said he got a text from Caldwell and missed call from agent. Knew something was up. Called agent who told him of release. #jaguars

He got a text? Wow lol
