Today's two cuts just cleared 10.5 mil in cap space.

Koyack is not listed on the roster as of 1:10pm today.

Koyack, and the gargantuan OT Will Proehls for that matter, are not yet on the roster because they've yet to sign their ERFA contracts, but expect them to sign soon. The same goes for RFA Corey Grant.
If indeed true that someone elses money is what his beef was? Then get to steppin'!!!

Got no time for none of that.

How do you know he was "cut" via text, Lewis stated Caldwell texted him and he also had a missed call from his agent. He never said David cut him via text, that's just speculation on your part

Your right, just texted him asking how his day was going. Why else would he text. No mention of a call. I don’t care if his agent broke it, no reason not to CALL him.

I would assume the agents handle the negotiation of contracts and all phases of it period. I’m just guessing now, but I would assume the same protocol was followed in informing the agent that the player would be released. He will most likely actually speak to management when he goes to clean out his locker.

I’m assuming this is how this procedure is followed

No one knows what the content of the text was. What if Caldwell texted "call me"?
I don’t think this is a heart felt thing like we think it is.

The team proly gave the agent time to gather some offers before announcing his release. Lewis most likely will go make that same 2 million dollars on the patriots or something. He’ll be fine.
Things change. Lewis being released isn't a total shock. But, it sends a message that the team wants to get younger at the position. Like the Hurns release, my guess is the team probably sees a potential upgrade in the draft.

At least let him battle it out against the others. I guess they wanted to move on and utilize mainly pass-catchers instead.

They picked up his options because there weren't any other competent TE's on the roster at the time. When they signed Niles Paul and ASJ Lewis became expendable, that's the business of professional sports.

Yes, but they knew they were gonna be active during free agency and if they intended on upgrading the TE position, then paying the option made no sense! I'm not against cutting Lewis, I just think it was a really dumb move to pick up his option, if they were intending on upgrading the TE position.
Marcedes Lewis to be released by Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars' cuts weren't limited to just Allen Hurns on Tuesday. Jacksonville is also slated to move on from longtime tight end Marcedes Lewis this week.

Hurns is a different situation. Was offered to restructure and declined. They had every right to try to deal him.

Why would you cripple your bargaining in Free Agency?  It is a business and unfortunately these are the things that happen.  Both of them were backup plans until something potentially better happened.

I guess people forgot the threads about this comment:

Mercedes Lewis -  ‘We Don’t Think About Wins Out Here ... Gus (Bradley) has turned around this program, he has the excitement up.... "
Almost sounds like Lewis might have been forcing his way off a tight roster by telling Jags he would not attend non-mandatory practices.
Amazing how it works. The consensus among NFL experts, analysts, and NFL alumni is the Jaguars lack quarterback talent. This entire off-season was UPGRADE quarterback.

Rather then listen for their own good, Caldwell listens to the rum bum booze hounds in the local media, who may or may not be getting a piece of the Bortles' contract salary pie.

Caldwell, to save his own skin, is raging against the age old NFL system. He is changing everything and everybody, but Bortles. He is the only soul left around to be professionally TIED to Biff. Coughlin and Marrone are NOT professionally TIED to Bortles'.

You're dying to understand Blake Bortles is still here because he originally was an owner's pick...and remains here because he was an owner's pick.

Just sayin' it's time to lash Shad Khan to Blake Bortles. He's the owner who came up with the clever ploy to draft from Orlando in order to fill seats.

Amazing Rich Eisen refers to Bortles as "the Remover of the Tarps". Where did that idea in his head come from?

With the Hurns and Lewis moves, it's almost as if the FO took inventory after free agency and have solidified their plans heading into the draft.

Momma McCarron has officially chimed in.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Very unprofessional to release Lewis late in FA. This is a guy drafted by Shack 12 years ago, endured the entire Gene Smith Era, stayed through a rebuild, and always worked hard while being a leader for young men. This is not a normal cut of a guy. He deserved way better than this. Anyone who remains sane after the Smith era deserves way better. Disappointing. Cut him if you want, but do the guy right.
