NYC: Well - he only had 6 touches the whole second half, LOL.
We were up 26-14 after starting the second half with a TD drive, so they had to pass to stay in it and we had the clear momentum. So it wasn't "how we played him" in the second half. He barely played.
On passing downs sure. But in early and short yardage downs we need Hamilton and Fatukasi on the inside. We those big boddies and Walker is very good at setting the edge
Yep
They have been using 4 down linemen more on short yardage/run looks and Walker at 4-3 end with in a 3 point stance is a good thing there.
It's because we started shutting him down in the 2nd quarter. He set a Jags franchise record in the first quarter for most rushing yards we have given up in a quarter with 95 or 98 yards, can't remember. We started shutting him down which is why they went away from the run. If he was still gashing us they would of continued to run it.

That's weird, because he had 39 yards on just 3 plays during that drive in the late second quarter before Shaq Quarterman gave him a kidney shot and he fumbled.
I don't think much had really changed as far as shutting him down.
I think the scoreboard and momentum swing scared them away from feeding him.

Set our franchise record for most rushing yards given up in the first quarter. There isn't any doubt they would of continued to feed him if he was making an impact, but he got shutdown. That fumble was one of the turning points

First it was "we shut him down in the second quarter", now it's the second half.
Whatever.
He only got 6 touches after the fumble - if you want to label that as our defense shutting him down, fine.
Sure seems to me the tacks coaching staff were the ones that shut him down.
Doesn't really matter how we look at it - I think the way this Jags team is playing - they can keep him to just a "good game" Saturday night and not a career game. That should be all they need to do to get the W.
Henry has had some of his best runs of his career here. It's just a straight up fight. You can either stop him or you can't.

Yes, 2nd quarter. He had almost 100 yards in the first quarter and ended with 121 for the game. Outside from the 1st quarter I'll take that any day. If we can keep him to under 100 yards it's a win for the defense and likely the team
I looked on Ticketmaster and the game is pretty much sold out except for resale tickets. Standing room tickets are on sale. That place is going to be rocking.

He actually had 51 APY in the second quarter on 4 touches.
Again, how did we shut him down if they only gave him 4 touches and he averaged 10 yards on each??
You need to check out how we controlled the clock in the second quarter instead of assuming we shut down Derrick Henry.

I am too.
Just pointing out that they are still beatable when Henry puts up above average numbers.
I mean, if he played like he did against us the first go round in every game - he'd finish the season with 2600 APY and 34 TDs.
If he can only put up 2 yards in the second half like he did in our first game, our chances of winning will be pretty good.

Hopefully we can chew clock and get a lead going in to the half again like that game.
Beat them to the punch. Play to the echo of the whistle and leave it all on the field for 60 minutes.
It's going to be awesome seeing the Bank with the lights on and absolutely rocking Saturday night. Duval going to do us proud.
Just can't wait for Saturday

Let me be clear:
Quote:All I know is that Henry has had our number.
Past regimes and teams don't matter this year. He has played only one game vs this unit.
Quote:Henry wins or loses this game. Same as it ever was.
... if the D can't stop Henry, it's gonna be a long night.
No, not necessarily.
Henry had a very productive game vs the Jags this season and his team still lost.
Jags merely have to replicate that and keep Dobbs from getting hot through the air, which would appear do-able as well.
But we did stop Henry in our last game. I don't really care how many yards he wound up with. When the game was on the line we stopped him and then we made them stop using him from the 2nd Quarter on.
In my book, we stopped Henry in that last game. I grant that in the 1st Quarter, Henry was eating us alive. But once Quarterman and the gang knocked the ball out of his hands and into Josh Allens awaiting arms, we didn't hear from Henry again. We nuetralized him for the rest of the game. If we can do that again, we win.
If, come Saturday, Henry is feasting on us and is pulling off 10-15 yard rushes in the 3rd and 4th quarter, then it's gonna be a long night.

We have different definitions of the word stop.
If stopping Derrick Henry is allowing him an APY number that would break single season records at his position if it were his "average" game - then I'd hate to see what a good game looks like from him.
What would a
good game be? 400 all purpose yards and 6 touchdowns?
We'll just disagree here. No big deal. I have no issues with the way you interpret the Jags defensive effort in that game. I just see it differently.
I don't think we stopped him at all except for their first drive of the second half. He was very efficient outside of that drive and after that drive they were down three scores quickly. They couldn't feed him any more.

Are they going to go with Dobbs who admittedly didnt look completely terrible against the Boys? Will they go back to Willis and go run heavy with Henry and option plays for Willis? Will they play dirty to try to get into our heads? Need to be ready for anything.
Now we've faced a lot of adversity over the last month and a half in the sense we've been down early in nearly every game. So even if the Titans connect with the first punch, this team has shown it can bounce back and win. But I don't think this is going to be a walk through coronation of our ascendency.
Dobbs barely completed 50% of his passes and should have had more interceptions than he actually had.
The Jags have been playing playoff football for weeks now. Every game was a must win game and they have rose to the occasion. Trevor was off target this past week (seems Cover 2 is his weakness) and yet he still was like 17/21. And then people are worried the tacks have more rest? Most of our starters took a half off yesterday. They’ll be fine.
Confidence is a heck of a drug and this team (and more importantly the defense) is high on it right now.
I have faith in Dougy P, Trevor and honestly, Foye. That’s the Jags new 3 headed monster.
Funny you say that, because I noticed he seemed have an excess of adrenaline running and rushed/sailed a couple passes. And then they showed his stats a little later - he completed 8 of his first 10 throws.
An off-target Trevor still completes 80% of his passes lol. Good stuff there

LOL! We do have different definitions...
I'm more than happy to let Henry have 100 yards and 1 TD. But if he goes off for 200 YDS and 2 TDs, that could be a problem.
Last game we played, he ripped off 100 Yards in the first quarter!! That's how great the guy is. But we basically neutralized for the rest of the game, and that's why we blew them out. I don't think Henry would consider that game in Nashville a "good" game for him. And I would agree. I believe, even though the dude went for 100 yards, that we stopped him for the majority of the game. To me, that's a win.
The dude is superhuman against us. Giving up only 100 yards, when the tacks are basically worthless in the air, is absolutely a good thing. But if Henry is running for 200+ yards and multiple TDs it means they are dominating our defense, and - like I said - that's gonna be a long night for us.

F NBC, seriously we have more ACFCCG appearances than regular season prime time games. I think we have just one. Losers.
of course it may be a sham, but it's 1000% expected. I kinda hope the NFC wildcard is set before that game even happens, and that Detroit beats GB by 40. They'll still find a way to drool over A. A. Ron's legacy, I'm sure. It's what they do.
Would like to see Detroit get in. They've been on fire and can score with anyone.

He had 155 all purpose yards in the game - not sure where this 100 yards thing is coming from - and he averaged over 10 yards per touch in the second quarter - he just didn't get many touches that quarter and then they were too far behind.
Let me put it like this - If Vrabel/Downing had kept feeding Henry the rock in that game
I BELIEVE he 100% would have had 200+ yards and 2 touchdowns. Even figuring in the 4 times he was stuffed on rush attempts and the fumble (at the end of a big gain) he was clicking off 7+ yards per carry and 11.3 yards per catch. He was playing great.
The only two possessions we stopped him on were the forced fumble near the red zone and the three and out at in the mid 3rd Q.
They abandoned the run for the remaining 23 minutes of clock.
I don't think we stopped him at all. They quit feeding him.
I still think he'll need to have a career game on Sat. night to make any sort of difference, because I think our offense can produce more points than theirs. And I think we can get points on the board faster.
