Quote:Half truths are always lies. Yes violence brings change but at what cost?

Farrakhan has long wanted a violent divided between black and white he's an open racist.

Farrakhan is cut from the same cloth as the terrorist holy men preaching jihad.

Yeah I've been looking at his "career" a lot today, straight up racist.

Just thought it was interesting as Arob had it on his twitter earlier.
Quote:I'm not playing lawyer ball here, but it's kinda important to point out that the qualifier is white, but the noun was cop. Whether he said he hated whites, or he hated cops, or he hated white cops, the action verifies that his primary targets were cops.

The fact that they were white is also important. But if this was soley a racist act, then why just go after cops??? I mean, it's common sense, right?

Am I missing something? I'm catching flack from a few other posters by pointing this fact out, and they respond with incredulity. Can you help me understand the disconnect, Americus?

No one is saying it was only fueled by racism. The killer said he wanted to kill whites and to kill cops.

Because he wanted to kills white cops, not black cops, it is thereby a race issue along with a hating cops issue. It isn't an either/or situation.
Quote:Why do u always make it a liberals versus conservatives issue?

The far left and far right cooks do that by not using common sense. I'm pretty moderate, but when the far left can't use common sense (see: not calling the Dallas murders a racial issue), then I'm going to point that out.

Quote:As a guy who respects the Anchorman's positions in other threads, and can see the general point he's trying to make...

If you can call the Charleston killings racially motivated, then you absolutely have to call the Dallas killings racially motivated.

Both killers were motivated by an intense hatred of another race. There are larger psychological and societal reasons for said hatred, but you gotta call it racism.

Yup. If someone wants to say that the bigger issue is hatred towards cops, then fine. To dismiss the race issue involved when the killer literally said "I want to kill whites" along with "especially [white] cops", though, is being intellectually dishonest.
Quote:I haven't scanned every post, but is there more than one person here saying the shooter wasn't picking targets based on race?

Hello? Am I on ignore?

What are your thoughts on TA's take that this wasn't a race issue?

Jtmoney, tjbender, dragonfury, flasportsgod, lastonealive feel free to chime in too. I'd like to hear if you guys endorse that hot take or not.

I'm dead serious! You have zero credibility when claiming someone got PTSD just because he served as a carpenter in Afghanistan when you have no experience in the matter.

The crowd seems to have been populated with plenty of white people, but there's a common thread to the ones who were shot. If he just wanted to kill generic white people the non-cops would've taken some hits. That he only shot cops shows that they were his higher priority though he has both factors in his motivation. I don't know why this is an issue with both sides of this argument, it's pretty obvious what he was about.

Again, no one is saying that he wasn't specifically targeting white cops. That was quite clearly his target.

The fact that he was was specifically targeting WHITE cops makes race a factor. Agree?

I didn't think I even had to weigh in on this one. If someone says that he wants to kill white cops, clearly race is a factor. Not the only factor, but a big one.
"If he just wanted to kill generic white people..." is such a weird straw man to force when that quite clearly isn't the point anyone has tried to make.

The silence was worrying me!

I don't even see how an argument that the shooting wasn't racially motivated could be reasonably advanced. Like flsprtsgod said, there were other things clearly in play in that thing's head, but yeah. If someone says they want to shoot white cops, it's probably a pretty good indicator that there was some racial motivation there.

If he just wanted to kill white people, how many non-cop white people are dead?

Am I being trolled? No one is saying that.

He wanted to kill white cops.

The fact that he focused on a specific race of cops clearly makes race a factor .

I'm not sure who TA is (as I said, I haven't read every post), but when a black man says he wants to kill white people, especially white cops, how is it not both racial and anti-cop?
For what it's worth:

According to ABC News,,

"Police said Johnson told hostage negotiators that he was angry about recent fatal shootings of black men by police elsewhere in the United States and that he wanted to kill white people, especially police officers."

abcnews.go.com/US/dallas-ambush-shooting-planned-thought-suspects-police-learned/story?id=40422456

-angry about fatal shootings of black men

-wanted to kill white people

-especially police officers

Take that how you will. I understand it to be:

1)Vengeful

2)Racial

3)Authority-Targeting (police)

in that order.

Side note- I also read there was an officer shot in Missouri today, which was thought to be motivated by Dallas/Minn/Louisiana. And also a shooting incident in Tenn motivated by the same. (ABC News articles linked to the above story)

This is a terrible situation getting even worse.

Yeah, that's how I see it too. The_Anchorman is TA.

Is that not what the hell I said?
