Understand this... pundits need stories that people read and a relocating team is a story. Our market size never did justify the city of Jacksonville having a NFL team here. Until the Jags start winning... winning big and winning consistantly, the 'small town' team will be viewed as the red headed step children. Winning will bring in more fans into the stadium. Winning will turn the jokes on the joke makers....it will shut up all the 'nay sayers'....

but it depends on the team winning; there is no substitute.

So at least 9 more months of this then.
Quote: Detroit has a number of nice spots, when you factor in entertainment and / or places to live. Downtown Detroit has the Greektown and Foxtown entertainment areas. The Riverfront Area has seen real estate value go up substantially in the last 20 years or so. Midtown is another good entertainment area and has Wayne St. University. There are some decent to good neighbors in the city. There's no question that a large part of Detroit is run down to put it mildly. The same can be said for every U.S. city, though Detroit has a higher % of run down areas compared to most cities

When one looks at an area, the entire Metropolitan Area should be included. When it is, the Detroit area has a very good combination of entertainment, restaurants, and home options. Bloomfield Hills and Grosse Pointe don't take a back seat to the expensive real estate neighborhoods around the U.S. The Detroit area by itself has a professional sports team in the 4 major U.S. sports, a high quality zoo, and some great museums, It's a great outdoors area in warmer weather. The various lakes provide many recreational options. It's also a very good golf area. If Southwestern Ontario and the Ann Arbor Market is included, there's that much more to offer.

My preference is the focus being on NFL Owners like Stan Kroenke and Jerry Jones that endanger the majority of future of NFL teams in their current locations. If they had their way, ultimately the NFL would be in many international cities where there's more money to be made compared. London would be only a step to making this a jet setting league. Though I greatly enjoy and respect competition and rivalries on the field ( my favorite Lions games are against the other 3 NFC North teams ), when it comes to the survival of the majority of NFL teams in their current markets, unity is far better than pitting one city/ area against the other.

I didn't travel all over Detroit, but I was there a few months ago for work. Had a chance to watch a Redwings game and walk around Greektown and the casino area. Seemed pretty fun if it was a bit warmer out.

I'm glad you had a good time.   Even at times in October,  the weather in the Great Lakes Region and the Northern part of the U.S.  in general can be a difficult adjustment for people not used to it.

The Red Wings will be moving to the Foxtown section of Downtown Detroit in the coming years.   That's going to be a great boost for an area that's already growing.    The Lions,  Tigers,  and Red Wings playing facilities will all be a close walk from each other.

In terms of market size,  Green Bay is MUCH smaller than Jacksonville.

I heard a report that the Jags are now the 4th smallest media market ahead of GB, Buffalo, and New Orleans.

GB does benefit from tradition, and a secondary market in Madison.

Jax is a top 50 market that has been steadily growing for the past few years. It will only continue to do so.

And Appleton, and Wausau, and Milwaukee, and Stevens Point, and Osh Kosh, and...

They have a widespread (and awesome) fan base that technically own the team and will travel two hours for a home game and sit in 8 degree temps happily. Pretty hard to compare to anything in the league IMO. But something to aspire to for this fanbase.

If we can incorporate Brunswick, Waycross, St Augustine, palm coast and Orlando similarly to the towns mentioned above near green bay.... Attendance won't be an issue. Tall order though.
On the Patriots KC game yesterday, the announcer said something along the lines of "We havent seen that play since 2009 in Jacksonville". I think it was an on-sides kick, but there have been many on-sided kicks since then. Can anyone imagine what they were talking about? ( I "officially" became a fan of the Jags in 2010, so I dont know much, just some)

I think the announcer said they didn't have a "successful" onside kick since 2009 against the jags. Speaking about the Chiefs.
