Quote:Oh i agree you cant hit on every pick, im just saying the idea that going completely young and expecting to win might not have been the best idea.... But yeah Gus is in his final year of his contract.. Lets see how this go!

Who said they expected to win?
Quote:No one ask [sic] the jags to go young... Look at the young players drafted like Cyprien,Sanders,Gratz,Joeckel.

Are they panning out??No! We should have added more exp free agents, but its too late to cry over spilled milk..
Did you seriously want the Jaguars to go old in their rebuild?!?

What about young players like Bortles, ARob, Hurns, Linder, T.Smith?  Are they panning out?

Should the team have eschewed them for older guys?

As a coach you dont expect to lose or you in the wrong profession..

No not go old but bring in proven players like they did with Parnell and Julius Thomas..

And? 'Expecting to win' and having the talent to win are not the same thing. I expect to win the Powerball.

Parnell was a career backup. Proven?

During a complete rebuild, the expectations of winning doesn't really factor into it immediately, especially given the amount of starters that were needed to play as rookies. They knew what they were doing, it was and is the fans that are impatient and with expectations, right or wrong.

They couldn't come out in 2013 and say, we're probably going to suck for the next few years. They hoped to be better, but the expectations are probably where they 'expected' them to be. Hence why Shad didn't fire gus.

ok and House and Marks? My point is nobody said doing a complete rebuild was the right idea. We had pieces here that was let go before the "rebuild".

Whose job is it to put the talent on the field? The Gm and Coach.

So you're saying they had to do it immediately?  The goal is for long-term success.  I guess that's too difficult for you to understand.

Nobody?

I would say there are several people that said doing a complete rebuild was the right idea.  It makes complete sense to have all of the guys learning and aging at relatively the same time.

We'll see if it works.

Fine.  Why don't they simply get a DE from "Pass Rushers R Us" and be done with it?

Why not simply get a Boselli class LT off the pass protector tree in the back?

It doesn't work that way.

Jimmy Johnson is considered one of the best talent evaluators/drafters in the last 30 years.  He had the aftermath of the Herschel Walker, Steve Walsh, and several other trades to work with to build the team, and this was during the era of 12 round drafts.  he took over a 3-13 team in 1989, and it STILL took him three drafts to get Dallas to the playoffs (and that was with guys like Nate Newton, Kevin Gogan, Michael Irvin, and ken Norton, Jr, already on the roster).

Yes, Caldwell has the advantage of unfettered free agency to help that JJ didn't have, but there was still no way to force/entice players to come here.  Besides teams typically retaining the true difference makers for the most part, many free agents aren't going to be inclined to come into a situation where they are bound to lose if they can help it.

I'm still super impressed the offense has basically been stamped "complete" (for the most part) in 2/3 off seasons. That's pretty remarkable. Hopefully Caldwell is correct in his statement of the defense being easier to build than the offense.

Think about how impressive that statement is.

Here's a comparison of the Offensive Lines that were under Mularkey / Smith and the one under Caldwell / Bradley:

<p style="margin-left:40px;">LT - Monroe --- Joeckel

<p style="margin-left:40px;">LG - Pasztor (?) --- Beadles

<p style="margin-left:40px;">C - Meester --- Wisniewski

<p style="margin-left:40px;">RG - Nwaneri --- Cann/Linder

<p style="margin-left:40px;">RT - Bradfield / Whimper --- Parnell

Granted, they need to up their performance but that's a complete rebuild of the Offensive Line in three seasons.

Now look at the WRs and TEs:

<p style="margin-left:40px;">(this is what's known as the Poo Poo platter of Wideouts)

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Justin Blackmon --- Allen Robinson

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Cecil Shorts --- Allen Hurns

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Mike Brown --- Marqise Lee

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Jordan Shipley --- Kevin Walters

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Marcedes Lewis --- Julius Thomas / Lewis

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

Essentially, they have rebuilt the entire offense in three seasons and ended up setting Franchise records while doing so. And if we can trust to fate just a bit here, most of those guys have nothing to do but get better in the future.

I know that folks are disheartened by the losses this season, but the Offense is in really good shape.

This one is good too:

Blaine Gabbert ---Blake Bortles

Dave's plan generally speaking has worked. He not only hit on solid starters, but got elite level play makers. If this track record holds true for their obviously sharp focused eye on the defense, we'll be good for years. Which was the big picture goal. Frustrating short term no doubt, but they're doing it the right way.

Yea long term success means winning! Can you understand that? Immediate success is the idea but it is not warranted..

Well, I didn't want to beat the reader over the head with the obvious...

Well sure.

This organization drafted really poorly for a looooong time. Sometimes it's best to just scrap the recipe and start over. There weren't many players that were difference makers or really even servicable. Because of the caliber of player that Gene drafted, there wasn't a good base to even draw on. It stinks that's what happened, but it was what happened. We had a terrible QB, poor WR's, blocking TE. No playmakers on Defense (I'll give you Daryl Smith), but no one else.

Lol boy would it be nice to get a De from Pass Rushers R Us! Yeah your statement is true for the most part, but when you gamble and go young you better be right or the team will still be stuck in the rebuilding phase... As we are on Defense..
