Quote:Son, can I kindly caution you about language. Otherwise, I will simply just jeer at your lunacy. Please stick to football. 'My team's D is going to be top 3 this year' is all I read to think perhaps you are just a panther after all. Please open arguments intelligibly. Expectation is not an is. Bet you don't get that.

Now, apologize for bad writing, reword like a man. Let me help you, 'WE EXPECT OUR D TO BE TOP 3', then dream dream blah blah hope, blah QB, David Garrard, a headache, no weapons on O, D can't win in NFL today, blah ya da do etc

Ha....decent, humorous reply. Better to go this route I guess...
Well we are smarter...

You got that going for you....
Quote:I disagree with this.

I would LOVE to see the Jags blow someone out this upcoming season, just LOVE it.
Oh well of course. I would love that too. Just not the other way around.
Quote:I'm not your friend....have we used all the nicknames already? Been a while since I've seen that skit.

Fair enough. Come over and hang out at our board if you want to learn more about our team.

Again....we aren't underestimating the Jags. I think you guys are going to be a good team. I just think our D is going to be way too much for you. It was for Brady the other night.

Looking forward to the game. There are a lot of us coming down to enjoy your city. Thank God the preseason is almost over.

Yeah, just buddy friend guy. Anyway, I don't think anyone here thinks the Jaguars are the 85 bears going up against the 76 bucs when they face the panthers, but right now people are feeling good about what they've been seeing from the team overall, and rightfully so. Bortles has looked better than good, he's looked like a true top tier QB so far, and Julius Thomas hasn't even been playing. We know the panthers have a good defense overall and that Cam Newton is an athletic guy, but guessing this stuff on message boards is about feelings, and the feelings around here are very positive for the home team right now, so if the Jaguars were facing the Seahawks week 1 there would probably be a lot of talk about how people feel like we can come out and surprise them.

I'm not surprised you'd feel the same way in the other direction, estimating your defense can contain the Jaguars offense and such, it's all according to script when you're a fan.
We play a lot of great defensive lines this season, and I just hope the offensive line can win a few of those games.

Nope....you're right for sure. From what I've seen here and on replays Bortles has been impressive.

Not only was losing KB a huge blow for us, we had 7 drops last week. The good news is Cam has tons of time and his passes have been great. We just have guys dropping easy passes - a few were TDs. But just like 2013 when we won 12 games, we don't have any good receivers but we can run the hell out of the ball and control the clock.

Seems like your Oline is a weak point. Is that true?

The Jaguars have had massive problems with drops in the preseason, too. Maybe it's an NFL epidemic? You won't see them on the highlights because guys dropping passes in the endzone that hit them in the hands aren't really highlights, but I think it's enough to know that the Jaguars first team has scored at least a field goal on something like 8 out of 11 drives with one of those unsuccessful drives being a drive at the end of the half and another being a dropped pass in the endzone on fourth down from the 3 yard line.

The o-line isn't a strength, but it's much better than it was. Last year the right tackle was a virtual turnstile allowing almost instantaneous pressure in any obvious passing situation. This year the RT spot is rock solid and the only worry is the left tackle who is at best mediocre, but you're likely to see a lot of two tight end sets from the Jaguars with the best blocking end on the left side, so while the offensive line isn't a strength in pass protection I think it'll get the job done overall.

Seldom, coy response.

Z, thus far in preseason, the Oline 'overall' has been a strength, next to QB progress. The LT is the weak point you may be referring to. However, as a unit, pass protection for the 1s has been scaringly steady. Because Bortles is showing strong pocket awareness,he has eased LT miscues and evaded the pass rush from the that side. Your DE will enjoy some moments with our subpar LT but we'll help him a lot with our blocking TE, Marcedes Lewis, while move TE Julius Thomas wreaks havoc in your top 3 D. Our base O consists of 2TEs, perhaps per design, given bad LT play.
Quote:Overreact much? Asking you why you think that game is so easily winnable is a "sin against humanity". Haha....ok

It's fun watching people who know nothing about my team spit out what ESPN tells them. You just confirmed your football knowledge doesn't extend beyond your team's bubble.

I'm here because I want to learn more about one of our opponents. But of course I'm going to chime in and start a conversation about my team when I see people make stupid posts about them.

This confirms you know nothing about us. Every person on this board hates ESPN. We think they are a bunch of clowns that don't even watch games, and try to "analyze " by the highlights given.

Go away. We are going to smash the Panthers come week 1.
Our defense can hopefully put some pressure on Cam. I'm not too worried about his weapons.

Every team in the NFL looks at us and thinks "oh this is very winnable" though. We have to start winning games like this at home to change that reality.

We hope that something is finally different about our jags. That difference is a QB who has the look of a future star.

Solid post

I doubt the defense gets much pressure. The game is likely going to be won or lost in the red zones when the offense starts running out of real estate to spread over will the defense be able to cover people and force field goals or will it get TDs scored on it. Same for the Jaguars offense. It'll be a tough effort against a good tackling defense. Will the Jaguars be able to stay disciplined and sustain drives like they've been doing in the preseason or will they have mental lapses that kill drives like some of the holding calls we've seen.

Our teams have that in common. That's why I was surprised when I was reading everyone disregarding the Panthers so quickly.

We struggled in the red zone badly last year. We're going to feel the loss of KB there for sure. We settled for FGs last year and we see how that worked out.

Trust me, the jaguars fans don't disregard anyone. We are used to being the underdogs, against every team, even at home.

But we also have to start believing that there are some winnable games out there for us.

Season opener against a team who just lost their best weapon? Why not this one?

I don't think any rational fan thinks we can blow the panthers out, but we, as fans, have a reasonable amount of optimism simply because of how much progress Bortles has shown.

Very fair.
At some point, we need to become an average 8-8 team.

This is year 3 of this current regimes rebuild. If things are going according to plan, that should happen this year.

If that happens, winning a game like the panthers one should happen. If we lose games like this all year long, we are staring at 3-13 yet again and hopefully Bradley gets canned.
Quote:it has nothing to do with confidence in the team, nor being postive or negtiave. Its reality our team is still growing.

4 of our first 6 games are againest teams that made playoffs last year.    Panthers made playoffs, dolphins just missed playoffs, colts made playoffs, pats won super bowl. we haven't ever won a game in london.

we will do good to win 6 games this year.
I'm good with this - doubling our win total and becoming a competitive team.  With the improvement Bortles appears to have made, I can see us competing for the playoffs NEXT year.

Will just be nice to watch competitive games after the past few years...
In exactly two weeks from today, boys, we will be pregaming getting ready to let it sort itself out. I'm guessing it's going to be pretty hot down there isn't it?
