Sources say Colorado State head coach and former Alabama OC Jim McElwain is Florida's top candidate to replace Muschamp

An offensive coordinator that has coaching lines to Saban.  Can't be all that bad....but not as sexy as some fans will like.

Not a huge name but he's an offensive guy and done great things with Colorado state.


Working under saban is a plus.


Recruiting might get off to a slow start.

a lot of gator idiots are going to be upset with this hire.  "WHO?? DERRRR WUT ABOUT JON GRUDEN?!!!"

He doesn't "move the needle" but looks to be a good hire.

Florida needed a coach that has led proven offenses.  He's done it at both Alabama and Colorado State.  This should help them with the wide receiver/running back/qb recruits.  

 

Muschamp scared so many of them away that it will be tough to rebound this year.

But florida is #1 job in the country right?  People should be lining up, no?

There are only a couple guys I think who could come in and provide immediate strong recruiting boosts and that'd be someone like Bob stoops.

Yes because thats the only thing that needs to be taken into account.

That'll be a good hire for Florida. That's the way you do it. You don't go for the most popular name out there just because you heard his name on ESPN a couple times, you go after the guys who have brought programs from the dead at the lower levels of competition. Add to that his background coaching under Saban and having success and that makes this a really good under the radar kind of hire. Good for Florida

$7.5 Million buy out, plus whatever they agree on as salary, $6 Million more to Muschamp. I would say Foley had his eye on a certain guy and is going with it. That's a lot of money.

The #1 job in the country should be able to pay like it right?  And you would be moving to Florida?  And no income tax?  It just seems like the #1 job in the country with all those other added benefits should have people lining up for the job and I'm talking about the cream of the crop.  Am I wrong?

There are people actively trying to get the job. One example is mike gundy.


Just because its a very desirable job doesn't mean that 1. Its offered to every big name. And 2. Doesn't mean its right for everyone.

He's pretty proven no ? He's very familiar with the conference.
