Quote:As regards to hurns falling on the int I'm not so sure how much that had to do with it, he was well past where the ball was thrown to and the receiver jumped the route which he probably would of anyway even if hurns was up battling, to me that was a bad throw by bortles, another case of him staring down receivers, but rookie error, to be expected.

Oh and once again, 100% the right choice to kick there.
Bortles is throwing the ball, expecting Hurns to be there. He fell and never had a chance to come back to the ball.

If it was a 65 yarder, then yes you risk it to try and pick up some yards. Not at 55 yards though. That is well within Scobees makeable range(or any NFL kicker really.)

What do you guys think Coughlin would have done in that situation?

I don't know, but I saw him make a pretty bad challenge on Sunday night. He must be dumb.

He is....according to Kelce from the Eagles

LOL, a 55 yarder is still a low percentage and obviously easier blocked (because of the trajectory) kick.

A 65 yarder isn't even an a sensible option. Laughing

No one said that Scobee hasn't made a 55 yarder before. Thats irrelevant that he CAN make it. You don't settle for a 55 yard kick with that much time left and 3rd down even with the best kicker in the league (which Scobee isn't). KIcking from 55 yards is a LAST resort (4th down/ or no time for any more plays) option.

Scobees is 64% at 50+ yards for his career(23/36). 80% last year. (4/5)

2/3rds is a low percentage when you are trying to defend your position at all cost. To heck with any facts.

You do settle for a 55 yard kick under the circumstances of that game.

We've both seen similar situations over the years and coaches will continue to go for more yards until either they reach a reasonable distance (inside 50 yards) or there is only time enough for the field goal attempt.

I can honestly say that I really cannot remember an instance of a recent NFL head coach handling the situation (bungling it) as bad as Bradley did there.

Quote:Dude, I'm just telling you from my years and years watching football that what I saw Sunday was atypical to how that situation has been handled in the NFL.  By saying my argument is invalid because I don't care to scour through a slew of games to try to find something that supports my argument is ludicrous.  Have you found one that supports yours?  I think that's a ridiculous way to determine who is "right".  Anyways, if you can say that any coach would have done what Bradley did, you can have that opinion.  But if you've watched enough football, you'd know that you were wrong.

You can't call my argument invalid because I can't find a similar situation if you can't provide me one that supports you...just sayin.

Oh wait. Coughlin was in nearly the exact situation. And what did he do?

<div>Coughlin decided to attempt a 54-yard field goal on third down with 15 seconds left. He had no timeouts left, but a sideline route could have gotten Lawrence Tynes closer. A completion in bounds wouldn't precludethe Giants from running on the field-goal team. But Coughlin played it safe.

Tynes missed, the Philadelphia crowd started going crazy — oh, but wait. In 2009, Mike Shanahan called a timeout just before Sebastian Janikowski made a field goal. Janikowski missed the follow-up attempt, spawning a craze of coaches calling a timeout a moment before a kicker tries a field goal, despite no evidence it works (last week Miami coach Joe Philbin nullified a blocked field goal in overtime by his team, a particularly embarrassing example of the strategy). Reid had done the same to try and ice Tynes. The miss didn't count. Tynes got to try again.

Coughlin's quote the following day:

"What happens if you get a sack there? What happens if you try to fit one in tight, and it gets, whether you catch it or not, you get tackled in bounds? Game's over. Last night I chose to do that, knowing full well that the clock was not in our favor, we had no timeouts. I fully expected the type of coverage that would take the short throw to the sideline away from us. I'm not going to know whether or not that was the case because we didn't try it."
Quote:LOL, isn't it amazing how they still are defending this obviously HORRIBLE decisions by Bradley here???

You are 100% correct. No other head coach in this league is making that decision to kick the FG there on 3rd down before taking one more attempt to get closer. A 55 yarder is not a chip shot. Its a low percentage attempt.

I believe this has now been disproven.
Touche.  Nice find.  You're much better at using the google than I.  Truth be told, I bet you could find it both ways.  However, I still think it would've been smart to run the play.  TC be darned lol.

And TC made the wrong decision, too.

All that proves is on occasion that good coaches can make terrible decisions. Bradley is an example of a bad coach making yet another bad decision.

With that said....

No other....Wow

Ok, so we were wrong on the "no other" part. We still aren't wrong in calling it a bad decision.

I'm sorry TMD, but I think I'll choose to defer to a 2 time SB winning coach about these decisions over some random internet guy.
BOOM!!

Why did Coughlin have to defend the decision then?

If it was as UNIVERSALLY correct as you suggest/ imply, then where was the questioning coming from, and why would there even be questioning in the first place that Tom had to answer???

OOOPS!

It was a bad decision. In both instances.

Here's one that fits my argument.  Came from the Saints/Falcons game this year.  Yay Google.

Scenario was Falcons ball, 3rd and 9 from the Saints 33 with no timeouts and 0:08 on the clock.  Matt Ryan threw an incomplete pass to Julio Jones, and they kicked a game tying FG to send it to overtime on 4th down.
