Quote:I see your point, but I also think there could be reasoning for him still being on the bench that we don't know about. He still might not have the playbook mastered. We do not know this. Only the People on the inside do. Plus, the OL is still shambles right now. I'd feel better if they simply put Bowanko in there and called it a season and let the OL start to finally develop with the 2 young kids in the middle. In about 4-5 weeks (hopefully) when they start to gel, then at that point if Bortles is ready, then put him in.
He's shown all the signs of him being an intelligent kid and I find it hard to believe he doesn't know enough of the playbook to play.

Nobody is throwing a tantrum. Disagreeing with the team is not a tantrum. Being disappointed or frustrated with the 2nd half of yesterday's game is not a tantrum. Being frustrated with the QB play of Chad Henne is not throwing a tantrum.
You and your petty childish insults you like to throw around is closer to a tantrum than what I'm seeing on the board in response to yesterday.
Quote:He's shown all the signs of him being an intelligent kid and I find it hard to believe he doesn't know enough of the playbook to play.
I think he's intelligent as well.....but I still don't think they are holding him out for no reason at all.
Put it this way, if he had the playbook down 100%, I don't think he'd be on the bench right now.
Quote:Struck a nerve, huh?
No.
Just thought we're discussing the Jaguars as adults, that's all.
I am like many of you, very excited to see Blake play. But if we look at this game it's very tough to say the outcome would have been any different with BB at QB. From my vantage point, there were 2 major reasons for this loss. Firstly, the defensive injuries, especially to our safeties. We all know that Gus's defense is highly predicated on skilled, physical players in the back 4. This was easy to see in Caldwell's first draft. Those injuries really limited and cost us during the second half. Secondly, our second half adjustments were just non-existent. To an extent I can understand this, as you enter the lockerroom up 17-0 at halftime, but you must anticipate a good coach like Chip will make adjustments and have plans in place to react.
I'm not a Chad Henne supporter, but to play devil's advocate but he had 266 yards and 2 TDs. That equates to a 4250 yard season with 32 TDs. If we got that production from ANY quarterback over the course of an entire season I think we'd all be happy as fans.

Well thank you for the compliment. I actually said it is too early in YOUR estimation to call for people's heads. I won't be confusing your for a genius, but I appreciate you recognizing one.
I just thought it was weird to say 5 year rebuild is unacceptable when it is 1st game of a year 2 in the rebuild. You say they should get 3 years and than say how frustrated you are and not expecting to win is unacceptable. Talking from both ends...

I think you would win the title for the most childish person on this message board by a landslide.
54000+ posts, most directed at TMD. Most with some bad attempt at humor.
If you don't think you'll see people complaining about a Jaguars loss after blowing a 17 point lead... on a Jaguar message board, I think you might be the one that should step away from the laptop.

I'm sure he expected it. That's just the way fans are. He is countering the point.

Ahh, here we go already. I knew the stats would come out...... Take out the garbage yards at the end that had no significance. He stinks. End of story.

The offensive line wasn't that bad (pass protection) and he was making audibles in pre season so I think he has the offense.
If he doesn't, then definitely sit him til he knows it but I don't think that's it.

I was making the point that by listening to the media covering the Jags, as well as Gus and Dave - it almost appears that they're on a 5 year rebuild.
By year 3, we need to be in the playoffs.
By year 2 (this year) we need significant improvement over year 1 which was an embarrassment even for low Jaguars standards. To me, that is at least 6 wins.
Year 2 is under way, and we blew a 17 point lead and allowed 34 unanswered points.
Instead of more criticism, all we've heard is how "we're still far away from being able to hang with the best teams" etc etc. When exactly will we hang with them? When is winning going to be expected?
The way it's going, and the way they're talking, this year won't be it. I can just picture next year starting and suddenly we're "competing for 2nd in our division"....
Quote:Three things that look most improved are receivers that get open, some semblance of a pass rush and speed at linebacker.
I think when Bortles is finally put into the lineup, QB will look improved, too, and the WRs will look more improved. I also think that when Bortles finally plays, the team may have more leads, and the pass rush and secondary will look better.
But until some cohesiveness is established in the OL to the point where run blocking approaches competence and there is better consistency in pass protection, there will be a ceiling to what this team can accomplish this year.
Quote:If you have a 17-0 lead you should win. The win should have been there. If your qb only gets past the 50 on like 2 drives you're probably playing the wrong guy.
No one is arguing that here.

You're not paying attention. Some are arguing.
Oehser just mentioned something on the radio show about the receivers and how they weren't running open in the 2nd half like they were in the first. He said Lageman even said something about it during the game. The receivers weren't playing as well after the half. Clearly that's Henne's fault.

Agreed on all points. That's why it's okay to be patient.

I disagree. They backed themselves into this corner by saying they would bring him along slowly after they drafted him.
There were reports in camp he was progressing faster than expected.
He clearly outplayed Henne in the preseason.
And Gus rushed to reaffirm Henne as the starter after the Lions game in which Bortles looked fantastic.
They might have a reason for sitting Bortles. I just can't for the life of me figured out what it is.

Even with the disappointing result from yesterday, 6 wins is certainly attainable for this team.
Even with the blown 17 point lead and 34 unanswered points, the team had the lead for 3 quarters, and wasn't too far away from winning the game.
Last year, we weren't even close to being competitive to any playoff caliber team. This year, we had the Eagles on the ropes for a half and led for three quarters.
Quote:You're not paying attention. Some are arguing.
Nobody is arguing. They simply see more issues than the QB and don't see the necessity to pile on blaming one person. If that's argumentative to recognize that there was plenty of blame to go around, so be it.
