Quote:Oehser just mentioned something on the radio show about the receivers and how they weren't running open in the 2nd half like they were in the first.  He said Lageman even said something about it during the game.  The receivers weren't playing as well after the half.  Clearly that's Henne's fault.

And when they are open, he still makes poor throws more often than not.
Quote:You're not paying attention.  Some are arguing.

Dan Hicken was embarrasing himself this morning with that argument.
Quote:I disagree. They backed themselves into this corner by saying they would bring him along slowly after they drafted him.

There were reports in camp he was progressing faster than expected.

He clearly outplayed Henne in the preseason.

And Gus rushed to reaffirm Henne as the starter after the Lions game in which Bortles looked fantastic.

They might have a reason for sitting Bortles. I just can't for the life of me figured out what it is.

And they don't have to justify the decision to fans either.  They're looking at this kid on a daily basis.  They know where he's at in his progression.  I have zero doubt that when he's ready to go, they're going to plug him in regardless of what's happening with Henne.
Quote:Even with the disappointing result from yesterday, 6 wins is certainly attainable for this team.

Even with the blown 17 point lead and 34 unanswered points, the team had the lead for 3 quarters, and wasn't too far away from winning the game.

Last year, we weren't even close to being competitive to any playoff caliber team.  This year, we had the Eagles on the ropes for a half and led for three quarters.

and yes, that's encouraging.  I am more frustrated with some fans and media members downplaying it as "well, we were supposed to lose anyway"....

I think we can get 6 wins, maybe more if Bortles plays sooner rather than later.  I think our defense is much improved (as long as cyprien doesn't miss significant time)...  getting Cecil and Ace back should help a little as well.

I don't think this is the reason he's sitting. I know YOU do, but the above could be retracted with a simple, "yes that was the plan but his play forced the issue".....

Theres got to be other reasons he's not in yet.
Our guys were actually TOO open in the first half.  You don't see that very often.  The 2nd half the Eagles adjusted.  By the time we started completing passes again, it was too late.

Then again, it could be good old fashioned stubbornness. We had a pretty stubborn coach once. They do exist.
if he isn't playing in the home opener, then i'll start getting annoyed.

Quote:Dan Hicken was embarrasing himself this morning with that argument.

I was listening.  It was cringeworthy.

I hate the strawmen arguments people use while defending Henne.

Punt coverage was bad?  Must be Henne's fault.

Defense gave up big plays?  Must be Henne's fault.

Noone has said that so stop using that as if it's some argument.  It was a team loss, yes.  Other players need to play better as well.

Henne played like he's always played.  He'll never extend a play when receivers had trouble getting open, he'll throw down to their ankles, he'll blow 3 timeouts because Jedd-Chad-Jacques combo can't get their stuff together, it's always something.

And when the team needed a spark and get SOME kind of drive going, he failed to deliver, simple as that.

Bortles should learn the playbook pretty soon and he'll be out there.

Why? Why does there have got to be other reason's he's not in yet. But you're ready to throw Bowanko out there. Could it be there are other reasons he's sitting?
Quote:And when they are open, he still makes poor throws more often than not.
Henne is not a QB that is capable of overcoming obstacles and carrying the team.  Like the past few QBs this team has started, he needs everything around him to be clicking.  When the running game is non-existent, and receivers are struggling to get open, he isn't going to elevate the play of those around him.  I think everyone recognizes this. That's why he's a placeholder and nothing more.  Nobody is arguing any differently.

Caldwell is forcing Gus to keep him sidelined.

If he was ready, he'd be in there.  There' no grand conspiracy at play to keep Bortles sidelined.

You mean the Cyprien that was out when we gave up 34 points?   That guy?

I hate the "it's not like Henne was terrible or anything".

Indeed.

As much as it sucked to see the team blow a big lead at the end of the game, the very fact that they were still in the game late is encouraging.  It's like people have forgotten how bad things were when we started last season, and don't seem to remember just how bad this team was.

Yeah, that bum.
Quote:Yeah, that bum.

I've already given Cyprien props for his play yesterday.
If a young Dan Marino was on the Jags' bench, I still wouldn't play him behind that shaky OL.

Just shut up about Bortles playing, unless the goal is to get him killed.

Maybe that is the ulterior motive of the OMGZSTARTBORTLEZNOW!!!!! crowd.
