Quote:The non-existent running game and dropped passes certainly had nothing to do with it, right? It's all Henne's fault.
It's not all his fault, but as the QB, he should shoulder the majority of the blame. Which drops are you talking about? Other than Hurns getting laid out to dry across the middle on the almost-fumble and one by Marqise Lee on the sidelines. Henne wasn't good in the second half.

Brown dropped a pass, as did Lee and Hurns. Once Philly locked down Hurns, nobody else stepped up to make plays.
Receivers weren't getting open or coming close to shaking coverage from what we could see in the second half. The running game never got going. So again, how is Henne supposed to get the offense going in that environment. He made some bad plays, but any time he threw a pass in the second half, he was throwing into coverage as our receivers struggled to get open.

Apologize for Henne all you want. The offense was brutal in the second half. And it cost us the game.
This is, Henne's lackluster performance today really shouldn't even have to matter. Blake should already be playing. Unfortunately, we have to wait to see if Chad Henne is still Chad Henne and not suddenly some markedly improved QB in his 7th year. It's only a matter of time before he plays himself out of the job and we're staring 1-5 in the face and they have no choice but to play Bortles. Which is unfortunate because this team really has improved a lot and it showed out there today. In a weak AFC South division, anything is possible. This year included. What does playing Henne for the first few weeks and taking a bunch of losses do for you? I don't get it. But time will tell.

From what we could see is the key point there. Philly finished dead last against the pass last year and while I'm not sure what they did in the offseason, CBS said there big addition was Malcolm Jenkins lol. And I'm not saying you're wrong in that nobody was open, it could have easily been that a quarterback that has been terrible for his entire career couldn't scan the field well enough to find the open man before he was covered. Nobody knows for sure except people who can watch the All-22 camera angles. But I'm willing to bet on the 7 year sample of Henne.

Is it apologizing for Henne to say he wasn't the only issue today?
What does allowing Bortles to develop at his own pace do to you personally? Is it more important to get him in there too soon just to placate fans, or is he expected to be the long term starter for this team? When he takes over is irrelevant. It's going to happen at some point this year. It won't change where this team ends up this season. He'll start when they think he's ready. Nothing you or I can do about that.

Watch all 22 camera angles and get back to us on that.
Personally what I see is a new center who never played the position. Luke back who really this is the continuation of his rookie year, another rookie starting on the line. Like it or not, they are probably feeling out the O-line to see if they can protect their investment in Bortles. 3 rookie recievers, and not much depth anywhere. Putting Bortles in ready or not is probably not the right call right now. I want to win just as much as the next fan, but I will trust the coaches decision.
However, one thing I will say is it seems like as usual Jedd Fisch got conservative when we got the lead. Either he doesn't trust Henne, or Henne kept changing the play at the line. You need more than 17pts to win in this league (usually). I could be wrong (and probably am) but the play calling in the second half was terrible.

Nonsense. Henne gives us the best chance to win. He's a changed man.

No need, apparently you already know that all the receivers were covered because Henne has shown in his career that he is an outstanding decision maker with the football. If the guy he threw the ball to wasn't open, obviously nobody else was.

Never said anything of the sort, but feel free to put words in my mouth. I'll wait for your in depth analysis on how many open receivers he missed.
There is such a thing as throwing receivers open. That's what the good ones do.

We're talking about Henne, right? There's a reason he's a placeholder.

And finally we get to the root of the problem. It doesnt have to be that way. We dont need a placeholder. That's conceeding defeat. But hey, who's ready for more efficiency next weak?
Efficient, knowledgable, plays fast, it's amazing the lengths they're going to to try to make themselves not look like fools. Which is a shame, because I like gus, and it doesnt have to be like this. This has to be Caldwell's doing.

This is great. So Caldwell is forcing Gus to comply. Yeah. Okay.

This team wasn't winning today with Henne or Bortles. Once the defense ran out of gas it was over.

"He made some bad plays, but any time he threw a pass in the second half, he was throwing into coverage as our receivers struggled to get open. "
You seem pretty sure of yourself. We should probably invest in some new receivers if they can't get open at all vs that scrubby secondary for an entire half. Young or not.
Nobody knows for sure unless they watch tape. So I could be entirely wrong and have no problem admitting it if I am.
But given Philly's pass defense last year + Henne's stellar NFL career...
You'll have your opinion and I'll have mine.

I should have been clearer as to what I was responding to. I was referring to his decision making.
Check out all 22 camera angles and get back to us on all those open receivers he missed.

Are you suggesting that with a sustained drive here and there, and maybe 7 more points, this wouldnt have been a win? What kind of reality are you living in? 17 points was never gonna get it done, you knew they had to put up more.
Had there been ANY second have production on offense, the eagles wouldnt have had as many opportunites.
Quote:Went to Publix around 530 today. Had my Jaguar shirt on. Probably had a dozen people ask me when Bortles was starting as if I had info. Fans aren't dumb. They know Henne isn't winning anything.
So these people aren't dumb but they assume you know the goings on because of your shirt?
