You know how we really know that this "Ready" label is a joke? First they named Henne the starter immediately after drafting Bortles, leaving them almost no wiggle room. Then they left him the starter, even after being outplayed in the preseason. It's now gotten to a point where Blake will never get the job due to anything within his control. They will either pull Henne mid-game due to poor performance, or they'll make the switch the day following the game. Either way, the change will be centered around Henne's mediocrity. They're not going to just decide halfway through a week of practice that Bortles is the better option.
And that's the real tragedy here. "Ready" isn't something that's attainable. They should have given him the damn job after earning it. Now it's going to come as a result of Henne playing like crap. I hope people are happy about that. His ascension could have had a much more positive feel around it, and now that's not going to happen.
Gus coming out right after the Lions game and saying Henne is the starter was like somebody putting a pin into a balloon.
Any hope we had built up as fans watching Bortles in the preseason was gone.
Not sure what Bortles is supposedly learning from sitting on the bench watching Henne stink.
I just hope the team doesn't start 0-5 with Henne and then they go to Bortles once the season is out of reach.
This is the same staff/front office responsible for our incompetent run game the last two years . But "Oh, trust the coaches, trust the plan". They did a great job building that o-line.

I will start off by saying that 25 carries for 64 yards and giving up 5 sacks is absolutely terrible. That being said, the powers that be responsible for building the o-line were tasked with rebuilding pretty much everything. It's a process. Things are being pieced together. Ain't going to happen in one draft, one offseason, or over night.
It's been 2 drafts, and 2 offseasons
Gus's "Rah Rah im enthusiastic" schtick is wearing thin too. Holy hell, just win a game. Or, in his own words "Do your job!"
Quote:Agreed. Message board posters certainly aren't privy to everything going on behind the scenes, and thank goodness for that.
And neither are you, although your practice reports have often been a blast. Seemingly every Jaguar is bound for the HOF.

That stuff doesn't win games and people that aren't blind are starting to see that its nothing but hot air. In fact, I think its a detriment.

Understood. QB is more or less fixed imo, WR is much improved. The defense is night and day different from not just last year but two years ago.
If the defensive line was awful and the o-line was terrible yesterday we'd still hear the same stuff. People griping just because. This team was so awful talent wise two years ago, do you really think that it would only take 2 drafts and 2 offseasons? The secondary is markedly better, much faster at LB, the d-line is so much better it's laughable how bad that it was.

Yawn.

Scoring points is probably more important tbh. Im just saying, the clock is ticking. Idc that blake isnt playing.

And look at the roster turnover that has taken place the past 2 years.
We are 1 game into year 2 of this process.

And the o-line isnt improved from 2012. At all.
Patience and waiting are the really difficult parts of being a fan. This season is more evaluation and preparation. After watching the preseason, of course I got excited. It was great to see real quarterback play but this year is a push. We still need help at so many positions. It was nice to have some excitement yesterday.
Ask your self KC 2013 or Eagles 2014? Which season opener was more demoralizing?

This one, because we had a massive lead halfway through

The line came together the final week of the preseason. It's completely revamped since 2012. The one position they tried to upgrade but failed was center. Their starting RT is sidelined with a broken hand.
I'm not sure what you were expecting.
When the entire roster was blown up a year ago, it was expected to take some time to complete the build process. There aren't enough draft picks to do it all at once. So, I'm not sure what you were expecting them to do this year.
They went after Mack and got outbid. They signed a guard from the top line in the league in 2013. They spent a first pick on a LT last year, and another couple of draft picks this year on the line.
Of all the things that take time to gel, offensive lines are usually one of those things that require time to gain continuity. When the center position remains unsettled, it's even more of a challenge.
There's no such thing as a good loss . This isnt college FB people. This isnt the bcs.

Bingo. Some fans are like spoiled children expecting immediate satisfaction.

Do you understand what a massive undertaking rebuilding THIS team was/is?
Do you understand how comprehensive the deficiencies on this team were at the start?
In order for this to be a complete team now starting from when Caldwell and Bradley got here, they would have had to trade down in each draft, hit on every pick and hit on every free agent acquisition, and even then, the players would virtually have to be instant hits.
Blackmon not being perpetually suspended would have helped.
I know you are tired of the losing. We all are.
But this team is headed in the right direction. Give it time.
Quote:Publicly Gus and Dave are on the same page regarding "the plan". If we're all having this conversation, I would have to think they have at some point, or at the very least there are a few coaches in the building who disagre with the decision. Nobody agrees on EVERYTHING. I'm not wondering if Caldwell is forcing the issue, and Gus is along for the ride. Because in those press conferences, Gus is really grasping at straws when it comes to Henne praise. There's been a lot of discussion about the plan in general, but havent seen a lot regarding coaching vs management.
It's one game that we lost to a great football team on the road with a young football team. Folks....lighten up. Regardless of the plan or management. Our offensive lineman are not on the same page. It's going to take some time. If Henne struggles, he'll lose his job. It's as simple as that. He didn't really cost us that game. I saw an offense that failed overall in oppening up some running lanes, and I saw a young defense that gave up some plays with mental lapses. It's going to happen....
