That number will climb once Henne isn't throwing the ball to him anymore.

Quote:I know what McCardell was when the Jaguars signed him. He was a sought after free agent when the Jaguars signed him.Exactly. Keenan was actually the top receiver for the Browns the year before we signed him, wasn't he? Yeah, big disappointment.
As for Smith. His issue in Dallas was he was never on the field. He broke his leg as a rookie. And then had an appendectomy his second year that nearly cost him his life.
Hill has been a bust on the field.
Nothing like Jimmy or Keenan.

But that's just me and I'm not so great with the English language.
Maybe Mad Dog speaks Latin?

As I said, Troy Edwards/ Northcutt like numbers in Cleveland. He didn't breakout until Jacksonville.

Quote:Hill is someone you bring in at the beginning of camp, not the end. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to bring in a player to develop at this point.
He's not worth a spot on the 53 man roster.
This.

You can say whatever you want. It doesn't make it true.

I was in love with this pick a few years ago but notneemore

No on Stephen Hill.
If we had a bunch of older WRs with no developmental guys and in need of a 5th or 6th WR, then why not.
In our current state, we have mostly younger WRs in need of development (by my count, at least four (4) within their rookie year or the next [Lee, Robinson, Hurns, Sanders]). They need as many practice reps as they can get.

But of all the WR we got, only one (Robinson) has his size/ skill set.
Thats something to keep in mind.

He has bad hands and is not a refined route runner-more straight line speed than good change of direction, etc.
If he can't hang on with the receiver depleted Jets, he doesn't need to take up a roster spot here, especially with so many young developmental receivers here.
Besides, Tandon Doss is a bigger WR (6-2, 205) who has actually had a productive game.

If route running is part of his issues, thats one of Sullivan's specialties. Also a better QB throwing him the ball (Bortles) might at least help some of the hands issues. He had bad QB play in NY as well as a head coach that simply was incompetent regarding the offensive side of the football.
Also.....to further illustrate the point....very few WR seem to succeed in NY under Ryan. Holmes is already come and gone too.

But my point about the makeup of the WRs on our roster mandates passing on Hill.
If our roster resembled the 2007-2010 group and Hill came up on waivers....then yeah...I'd take a shot.
But virtually everyone-including you-were thrilled with what the Jaguars did during the draft, especially at the WR spot. Why risk slowing the development of at least 3 young WRs to bring in one who has already failed that will take reps from them?
Maybe if another WR has a substantial injury, I take a chance on him. Otherwise no.

No....you'd pass on (or trade Sanders) in that case. Doss would be kept for returns, at the least.

Because it's not about what's best for the team. It's about setting something up for down the road in the event Hill does "reclamate" his career in the league. That way someone in this discussion can pull out the Back Patter 2000 to congratulate himself so aggressively it might appear to be a seizure.

Quote:I'd be interested in Hill. Kid had a ton of potential coming out.
He killed it at the combine, but you should when you aren't in pads, and indoors. I knew when I was watching him at the combine that some team would over draft him. He went from a 4th, or 5th round solid to a 2nd round gamble.
I could see him getting better, the potential (as you say as well) is there. A very developer player.
