Quote:He is one of the best back-up QB's in the league and is warranted the 3m over two years. That's a good deal for Henne.

He really isn't one of the best back-up QB's in the league.

He is arguably the worst starter in the league.

There's no need to argue it. The stats over his career make it plain as day.

Gabbert would have needed to start for another team last year for there to have been a worse starter, and that includes a lot of back-ups that played extended time or later round rookies from the 2013 draft. Guys like Vick, Flynn, Orton, Glennon, Hoyer, Fitzpatrick, Cassel, Clemens, Ponder, and Campbell.

All of those guys were backups or only part time starters. Most of them on other teams without great rosters around them.

Like I said earlier, it's really a sad testament to where the Jaguars have been that a guy like Henne starts looking good to some of the fans.
Quote:I think you don't understand what the word quality means. Did you not see what happened to the Jags last year?
I know exactly what happened. We had a backup QB starting. That's exactly what happened. What happens when you don't have a decent backup QB? Green Bay. That's what happens.

Tell me 5 better back-up QBs. I'll wait.

Tell me 5 worse starters. Wait all you want.
Quote:Henne = Bad player not owed anything, free agent. Money could be used elsewhere.

Gabbert = Bad player that will be paid if he is here or not. Money is gone already.

Team will fail with either. Makes me ill to think of either of the two starting. :yucky:
What bothered me on the whole thing was they had discussed about how hard they are trying to sign Henne to the point where it seemed that they might even want to use a franchise tag on him.  Which I know would be the laughing stock of the NFL, and I'm sure it never really had that kind of weight but they wanted to let him know they want to resign him here.  However the same wasnt expressed about Maurice Jones-Drew.  The only thing we heard was that he deserves to test free agency.  That could mean that he basically gave them a figure they will never pay for 4 years, but it was obivious that he wanted to leave 2 years ago.  This might be the best thing for both.

I agree though Chad Henne should sign for low money or not at all.. hes a back up at best.

We're not signing Henne to start dippy. We're signing him to be a backup.

Dude, what the hell is your point? Whats with the Green Bay comparison? Green Bay sucked with their back-up and the Jags sucked with our back-up. Henne sucks man  I'm sorry if this bothers you. I sincerely hope the OP is correct and Henne walks.,

That doesn't change the fact that Henne is terrible now does it.
This whole thing is so very tiring.  For the life of me I can't figure out why the front office keeps floating out the idea to us fans that Henne is so worthy of signing.  I have eyes in my head and anything over a dollar is overpaying.  It sure seems like 2014 is being considered a wash as part of the rebuild so why roll out garbage under center?

Are we basing his worth on one throw to Cecil at the end of the game?  What about all those Interceptions for touchdowns?

Thad Lewis, Brian Hoyer/Brandon Weedon, Matt Cassel, Shaun Hill, Kirk Cousins?

I can get 5 more if you like...

My point is, if you don't have a quality backup QB to come in a possibly win and lead the team for a few games, (which Henne has done), you are going to have a complete collapse. If you can't see it, it's really not my problem. It's not hard to figure out.

Yes, terrible for a starter. Terrible for a backup? No.
Henne lol!!!!

I disagree that Thad Lewis is better than Chad Henne. Brian Hoyer did pretty well stepping in. Weeden? Are you kidding me? He's one of the worst QB's in the NFL aside Blaine Gabbert. LOL. Shaun Hill isn't bad, he's on Henne's level.

Kirk Cousins can be a starter in the league. I don't consider him a backup, even though he is. He's going to start for a team one day and has tremendous trade value.

I'm thinking Michael Vick would disagree with those that say Chad is the best backup QB in the league (besides Chad is the starter as of mid-last year and might be resigned to remain that but lets hope not).

So you agree that Henne is terrible and still want to sign him? Makes zero sense to think that way. Terrible is terrible. You seem to think throwing the word back-up in there makes it acceptable to sign a terrible player to that role. You do realize back-ups become starters when injury occurs don't you? You know, the only reason henne was playing last year.
