Quote:Thats a good point. If Rodgers was thrown out there like Gabbert was from day one as a starter, who knows what would have became of him? Theres equally a chance he might have flamed out. All we can do is speculate at this point.
Rodgers performances in preseason indicated he was ready early on.
Quote:You normally cant help your stock by throwing at the Combine so why do it?
Save it for the Pro Day with your WR boys.
Ask Gus Bradley.
Get better everyday. Compete.
We all know how big Gus is about competition. You don't think he takes notice of players that shy away from that?

This is an awful argument. No top QB hardly ever throws at the combine anymore.
Quote:Rodgers performances in preseason indicated he was ready early on.
Thats not enough, cmon you know that. Its a good sign, - but until you see how a QB performs in the real thing, when coaches are specifically gameplanning on how to exploit weaknesses, on a week in week out basis,,,,,
Even Gabbert performed "adequately" in preseason of year 2. Yet it didn't translate to anything consistent in the reg season.
Quote:This is an awful argument. No top QB hardly ever throws at the combine anymore.
Its not an argument its the truth. What QB truly hurt their draft stock by throwing?
Quote:I agree. I said the same thing myself. They have advisors who are scared little boys.
I don't think their agents are scared. Just misguidedly arrogant, to a fault. Their advice is the best, even if it turns out not to be in their client's best interest.
So, I suppose that makes them even bigger divas than their clients.

So if Gus had the top pick 2 years ago he wouldn't have picked Luck? Because Luck didn't compete or throw at the combine.

which qbs hurt there stock by not throwing?

None.
But at the same time it raised unnecessary questions in the process that was totally avoidable.
Instead of having 2 opportunites to show off you've limited yourself to 1 pro day or private workout compared to the other prospects who took every chance to take advantage of the opportunity.

Or the game tapes that actually matter?

The same game tapes are available of the ones that decided to throw as well.

Absolutely. Plus, those who threw gained ground (specifically McCarron and Bortles.) Unless I'm mistaken, they also fully participated in all other drills, too.
The irony of it all is... those who think throwing at the combine didn't matter, Pro Day throwing matters even less. It's scripted, controlled, and a total layup. At least with throwing at the combine there was something to gain... standing out among peers face to face. There's absolutely nothing to gain on Pro Day. Even the Gabberts of the world nail those. It's only a chance to lose ground if it's not the ace it's expected to be. Again... having to ace it just to stay put.
The only things that can happen on Pro Days are gimmicky stuff. The one thing I think would be interesting is if Ted threw the entire day without his gloves. It takes stuff like that to stand out. Running in street shoes, doing drills out of position (for tweeners and athletes), etc., etc...

And their game tapes aren't as good.

False.
Bortles is in the conversation as the first overall pick. McCarron and Garoppolo have steadily gained ground as well.
Bridgewater is the guy
Fits like a glove for us

Explains why Bridgewater's deep balls were off
1. Louisville's progression system runs from short to long
2. When he was off on his deep ball it was his last read 99% of the time
3. He has no time properly set his feet and follow through with proper technique, so he just puts it in a spot
Explains Manziel too, I am warming up to Manziel slightly, probably over Bortles
Strengthens my position on Bridgewater

No point in throwing without gloves if your going to be throwing with gloves during the game
Quote:Yeah, for me its
1. Bridge
2. Manziel
3. Bortles
4. Garoppolo
5....
Manziel and Bortles are inter changible pending on what you like, I am beginning to prefer Manziel over Bortles
Jimmy G is 4th for sure
