I do enjoy watching them because they play hard.  However am I excited about what we are building while watching them?

If you told me we'd find our franchise QB in the 3rd round, the league leader in INT in the 5th round, our team leader sack artists as an undrafted free agent, trade for one of the leagues best RBs for only a 4th and 5th rounder, a guy like Kam Chancellor in the 5th round, etc.... then yea I'd be excited.

But I'm not sure I believe we'll luck out with late round/undrafted free agents the way they have.

Quote:Okay, then, how about Mike McCoy?    Denver lost him last offseason, and they set all sorts of records without him.

QB as good as Peyton Mannings are obviously the exceptions.
Quote:That's ridiculous.  Successful teams lose coordinators all the time and don't take a step back.  For example, did Indy feel any negative impact from losing Bruce Arians?

The Colts just got wiped out of the playoffs. Luck threw four interceptions. Luck had seven interceptions in two playoff games.

Yes.

Quote:Was not impressed at all with Seattles offense vs the Saints yesterday. Especially the passing offense. If thats what we are trying to emulate, then its going to be another boring regime.

I agree. All I hear is Russell Wilson this and Russell Wilson that. What I saw yesterday from RW was just not very impressive.

The Seahawks are built around Lynch and a great defense. RW mixes in just enough plays to win and he doesn't make many mistakes. He is a very cerebral player though, so that helps.

RW was 9 of 18 for 103yds 0tds and 0Ints. Those are, dare I say Gabbert #'s, although he would probably be under 50% rate.

Yes.

The Colts lost Bruce Arians, and went right back to the playoffs and won their first playoff game.

The Broncos lost Mike McCoy, and set all time NFL records on offense.

The Panthers lost Rob Chudzinski, and won their division.

How many examples do you need?   Teams lose coordinators all the time and do not take a step back.

You said, "The fact that Seattle has felt zero negative impact from losing Gus Bradley just convinces me he had little or nothing to do with Seattle's defensive success in the first place."

I have given you three examples of teams that lost coordinators last year and they felt zero negative impact.   So you would apparently assert that out of all three NFL coordinators who were hired as head coaches last year, all three had little or nothing to do with their prior team's success.   So what you assert about Gus, you would also assert about the other three?

As much as Seattle and San Fran are praised, they are not really the most prolific when it comes to the passing game.  In fact neither of them are higher than 20th or so.  So is some respects, yes I am liking what Gus is bringing to the table, but I'm more excited about what Caldwell is bringing to the table from Atlanta.  Hoping that they can blend to have a rounded team that can hang with anybody after they've gotten the rebuild goin.

Starts with the QB.

The Seahawks have shown us that you don't need the top picks to get a great team.  Russell Wilson went very late in the draft and has shown why he should of been taken sooner.  Gus Bradley did a great job and left SEA with one of the NFL's best defenses.  Things won't go exactly the same for us, but if SEA is being compared it shows all you need is a good coaching staff and GM to fill the stadium and win.

Quote:The Saints defense is far weaker versus the run than the pass.  Knowing that, would you try to pass the ball more?  I agree that Seattle's passing game looked bad, but my point is, the Saints are actually very good against the pass.

I'm pretty sure he didn't read anything you posted about how good NO's defense has been this year.  Reminds me of the guy that just talks over you to convince himself he's right.
I don't like what we are building honestly.  What has going from a great running back to another great running back done for this team?  I think I'd rather go from quarterback to quarterback.  The idea of having Henne or Gabberrt at the helm again in 2014 sickens me.  Oh boy hooray we will have an exciting defense.  Whoopie Doopie Do.  What the heck are we going to do about offense?

Watching the Seahawks relying on their defense to eek out a win was reminiscent of a bunch of loses us Jaguars have suffered.  I guess making the playoffs will be something at least.  The Seahawks sure didn't look like a Superbowl contender yesterday.

Good post.

QB is the lynchpin. Russell Wilson is not a great one. He's decent, but he'll never be top 5 in this league.

I would hope we aim higher than that at QB.

Quote:I've heard a few people refer to us as Seattle South. Just wondering if the type of players we bring in and the schemes we run excite you? Seattle built a physical team and are fun to watch. Wouldn't mind Jacksonville building an identity like that.
After seeing how good Seattle's Defense has played this year without Gus Bradley and their former DL coach, it makes me wonder how much of the success was from those two coaches & maybe just from the talent & other coaches ( or it could be that they remember the stuff Gus taught them).....

Just a thought I had

I made a post about that very topic in the NFL forum. Considering the Seattle defense didn't really improve until Carroll got there, there could be something to the above.
I sure how we can get their swagger.  I do miss the good ole DUUUUUUVVVVAAAAAALLLLLLLL days.   JDR pretty much killed our mojo on D

Jack Del Rio got Pot Roast Knighton, and Mincey on his team I noticed that Jeremey Mincey did get him a key sack in that game though.

I believe it was both  Carroll and Bradley with a good eye for talent and a scheme the team believed in. I cant dismiss the good we saw from our own defense this year given what Bradley had to work with.

The seahawks didn't plan their build around finding Wilson in the third round and having him light it up in training camp to win the job.  They got lucky with that.  Seattle has a great defense, Marshawn Lynch, and a QB who doesn't turn the ball over very often.  That's a winning combination.  Basically the same thing in San Fran with Kaep, Gore, and their defense.  And neither QB is a world beater either.  They can both make moves with their legs and make some good throws, but both teams are in the far bottom half of passing offenses.

Pot Roast played well.  Mincey got a sack when he was unblocked, which is exactly how he got his big extension here.  Other than that, he was invisible as always when he was in the game.

We gave up the most points in team history. :ermm:

Probably had the lowest INT total in team history or close...

Que???
Seattle's passing offense is boring.  Russell Wilson is a game manager.  He reminds me of Garrard.

Watching grass grow or paint dry is about as exciting as watching Seahawk football. The Patriots, Colts and Eagles are MUCH more fun to watch.
