Quote:He'll be able to move and he'll have some success but it won't be the same success he'll see in college.

Exactly. I am fully aware of what makes him good in college. It's just that a QB's negatives get extremely exposed and exaggerated in the NFL.And he has a lot of negatives.
if the jags end up with a chance to take him, they should.  My dad himself is saying jags should get him.  I don't think he will end up a jag, but if he did would it hurt ,or help ticket sales?

snowwolf,   I think he would help ticket sales at least in the short run.   However,  there's a good chance that one or more other players will have higher draft grades than ' Johnny Football'.   Including another QB,  Teddy Bridgewater.    Ultimately,  winning will help ticket sales more than anything.

I think we should and am pretty sure we'll draft Teddy. No other QB is close to him in terms of polish and potential. JF, though, has a playmaking air about him that can't be denied. I wouldn't draft him, but he's the dark horse.

Lets be more concerned about winning then celebrity status...

Your dad is not a smart man.
because one thread with the same title isnt enough

People keep it classy.

The thread shouldn't exist. I don't care.
If we're going to bring someone in for ticket sales, it should be Tim Tebow.  And I am one of Tebow's biggest critics.  That said, you don't bring someone in for ticket sales.  Johnny Football lacks the maturity, and his skills don't fit in the NFL like they do in college (much like the aforementioned Quarterback)

Caldwell would be committing career suicide to hitch his wagon to Johnny Football.

I think your dad is on the ball. Although I like Teddy most as of right now, Manziel is a close 2nd in my humble opinion. He's Doctor Chaos. I think he will transition into a very good pocket passer with great escape ability to extend the play. Extending the play to buy time helps the receivers get open. He will surprise a lot of people....especially on this board (from what I've been reading in my short tenure here). I think he will be a top ten pick. The boy is a real gamer and plays his best in the big games and big moments. My major criticism of him is he occasionally throws passes he shouldn't when his receivers are covered. If someone else gets Bridgewater, I be thrilled to get Maziel, especially if we were able to trade down a few spots for an extra pick.

He's like a distant 6th. But you tried. So I appreciate your effort.
Manziel is an interesting prospect.  Some of his game definitely won't translate to the NFL, but some of it will.  Maturity is a concern as well as height to a lesser degree.

I think he could surprise some detractors and turn out to be a good NFL QB, but I'm not sold enough to want to take the risk.

Wolfie - pay no mind to the jerk who insulted your Dad.  His Dad just never taught him any manners.

hahaha......I'm gonna hold ya to that...... (-:
I think the detractors will be proven right, and that Johnny Football will be out of the league in... four years or so.  Depending on where he goes and when he gets his first start.  He'll very likely be overdrafted by some team.  I just hope it's not the Jaguars.

I think he's making a huge mistake by declaring this year.  At least non-monetary wise.  Financially speaking it's probably a good move and probably why he'll likely declare.

Caldwell is a new General Manager who doesn't have the history to overcome Manizel coming in and making a circus out of everything.  I'd imagine most teams without a QB will pass on him, while one with an aging QB might take a shot.  We'll see.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the Eagles season transpires.    If the Eagles aren't sold on Nick Foles as their long term answer at QB in Chip Kelly's system,  will Chip Kelly and co. target ' Johnny Football'  with their 1st Round selection,  if available???      Michael Vick certainly isn't getting any younger and has been injury prone.

Financially speaking.....he doesn't need the money. Rich parents from oil money I believe. As to your point, who knows. Time will tell. I see a great competitor. One who can and will adapt nicely to the nfl. Is there risk in drafting him? Definitely. If the Jaguar's GM and scouts think this is their guy.....make no mistake......they will grab him. They won't pay attention to Todd McShay and whoever else doesn't like him including me and you.
Both QBs in the Fresno/Wyoming game are better pro prospects than Johnny.

In fact as I've explained a couple times, Brett Smith actually is what everyone wants Manziel to be. Same hair on fire flare, but stays under control better and doesn't make as many boneheaded plays (although he does make some). Then add that he has zero off field concerns and you basically have an upgraded version of Manziel.

Carr is top 5 qb, probably a top 2 with Bridgewater

He's pretty much tied with Mettenberger as the third QB to me. Mariota still comfortably #2.
