I've to Ireland 3-4 times, back when it was cheap. I'm hot to go to Scotland now and checked out Campbelltown (home of Springbank) and it seems perfect- about a 3 hour drive from Glasgow, has distillery tours and there's an Old Tom Morris designed golf course outside of town. I probably could save enough to pull it off next year in April.

I had planned on going to Scotland this last fall for Thanksgiving, but my girlfriend ended up taking a new job about a month prior and couldn't get the vacation time. Im still pretty sore about it.

That's too bad. I've had two trips to Italy cancelled b/c of different reasons, one a family emergency, the other an airline pilots strike.

 

 

Back to liquor stories- I had a glass of Jack Daniels Honey bourbon recently and liked it, followed it up a week or so later with a glass of Jim Beam Honey and liked that okay too. So...I forked over the 17- and bought a bottle of the Jim Beam one. Wow, talk about awful. It is so sweet and just objectionable and only 70 proof. Maybe it's good outside once in a while but I won't buy another bottle ever again.

 

For about 13- more I could have had another bottle of Basil Hayden bourbon.

Wait a minute.  You tried a shot of Jim Beam and liked it but then it turned somehow horrible after you bought a bottle?  Am I missing something?   :blink:

Well.... he didn't say what he had to drink before "trying" the JB honey.... so, perhaps a tainted palate is to blame?

Can't say I've ever tried honey bourbon but I generally don't like sweet stuff, so I'm not real sure it would appeal to me. Sucks to buy a bottle you end up disliking though... Maybe you can use it as a mixer.


I just got my hands on some Hudson Bay Baby Bourbon, anyone ever had it?

You know what I mean- it was good enough to have a glass with the boys after work both times but doesn't translate to 2-3 glasses sitting around at home. It's just too sweet. It's not a hint of honey, it's overwhelming.

 

tbh- never had Hudson Bay, maybe NYC has, it sounds like a NY product.

Haven't had their baby bourbon - but I've had their Manhattan Rye Whiskey - it's good but better can be had for a bit better price. 

 

Today I'm enjoying a good Czech pilsner.   Krusovice.   Slightly less bitter than many Czech pils - and a little creamier in texture - not overly carbonated.  Two thumbs up. 

 

OK. I only had $9.25 tonight, good for a 12 pack of Busch

Back to my Usual PBR tonight, roomie and I gonna get blasted

Modelo Especial  Cerveza tonight.  Likely to be reinforced with a nip of brandy later.    Took a flier and tried a new cognac a while back and it's a pretty good one.  D'usse. 

 



Excellent late night nipper before bedtime.  Snifter required. 

I might have drank half the vodka in Manhattan last week. Thanks again for the help NYC!

Back to bourbon, I am nearing the bottom of the bottle of Basil Hayden's. I stopped pouring it over ice and now just drink it straight up and it is remarkably better that way. The bourbon season is about to give way to the silly Christmas drink and "Winter Warmer" beer season but then will happily descend into the scotch and winter lagers season.

And that reminds me of the night I drank straight tequila shots with no chasers to get drunk with a few friends. Back in those days you just drank what was available. And yeah, I woke up and hurled puke all over my friends parents hallway wall and they still make fun of me to this day 13-14 years later. I get a flashback of that day anytime I smell tequila. Still have a hard time drinking it. God that was the worst hangover ever.

2 mikes hard black cherry lemonades tonight. I'll crack open my bottle of Hennessey Black this weekend. I bought it on New Years Eve and I was down with the flu for a couple weeks so never got a chance to try it.

Where Did the Term "Booze" Come From?
 

The origin of the word “booze” is often mistakenly credited to E. C. Booz, who was a distiller in the United States in the 19th century. The word “booze” itself appears to have Germanic origins, though which specific word it came from is still a little bit of a mystery.
