Women love a man with the right priorities.  She must adore you.

You actually brought a little tear to my eye.

I popped the top off of the Dickel last night myself.
Quote:I'm not an IPA fan either and it's interesting to find that others aren't either. It is, as RachelnTeal said, almost blasphemous to not like them...especially where I am a homebrewer and belong to a homebrewing club. I don't like the hoppiness and so many IPA's are loaded up with Cascade hops which have a distinctive odor.

I much prefer a pale ale (such as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale) as it has a similar grain profile but the hops are much less prominent. Hops, BTW, are generally either "bittering" hops or "aroma" hops. Cascades, in IPA level quantities can be both. Chinook Hops, OTOH, are mainly bittering. It's fascinating how you can vary the final product via the grain bill, the hops, and the yeast.

I like amber ales too as they are not as bitter and the fermentation process is not as complete, leaving the beer a little sweeter and a little fuller.

There's a guy on the board opening up a brewery, named Grassfields I think; it would be cool if he jumped in here and told us what he was up to...I forget his name.

Best beer I've had in a long time is the Kentucky Bourbon beer on draft- in the bottle it's just OK but on tap it's terrific IMO. NYC you would love it but I'm sure you've had it by now.

GrassLands? That's me Smile I've been hella-busy. Check out the topic I just posted to see what's been keeping me up at nights lately.

Oh, and first booze? King Cobra 40 oz (to freedom). Life hasn't been the same since...

You're right.

I should have written "screwed".
OK, I got a 12 pack of Pabst iced down and will commence drinking at about 7pm, should be good to go by midnight

!2 pack? 7 pm? What ya gonna drink from 7:30-midnight?

In Kentucky today. A pretty festival employee just showed up to the tour bus with 12 bottles of small batch bourbons.

You may not hear from me for a few days...

(Town Branch distillery select and Evan Williams single barrel vintage)

If I remember what they taste like - I'll report on Monday)

I hate you so much right now.

Enjoy!

By the way, if you're close check out this place. We hit it on the bourbon tour and it was definitely worth it.

Hey Deacon, do you know anything about Old Forester bourbon?

I believe I've had a taste of it at the local whiskey watering hole, but it didn't make all that great of an impression on me. Why? You get ahold of some?

My dad was just given a bottle, bottled in 1957. Neither of us had heard of it before so we didn't know if it's any good or anything... but I suspect we'll find a way to enjoy it either way  Smile
Wow! An almost 60 year old bourbon. I wonder if it's mellowed at all.

I was gonna post a picture of it for you, but I don't know how haha.
It's probably considered pr0n by this site anyway.

I AM hooked on the Basil Hayden's bourbon but left it in Massachusetts when I came to Fl for the summer in June (I did pick up a small bottle of Woodford Reserve for the occasional taste). I'm back on the tequila for the summer months (Hornitos Reposado right now) plus the occasional vodka (no preference to brand, I buy a cheap one like Seagram's, Fleischman's or Gordon's, they are all the same to me).

What I need/want help with is rum. I'd like to try a better brand of it than Bacardi/RonRico, etc, but have no idea where to start or even how to drink it outside of rum and coke. Any recommendations?

Is that a spiced rum like Capt Morgan?
