Regular Coke is too sweet, it overpowers the other flavors.

About to start my first home brew for the cold winter months. Highly skeptical about these wine kits I hear about for obvious reasons. Anyone have any experience with them?

Noted. Any idea about the quality of a wine kit? Not expecting a high class red but will it at least taste like wine?

Not really familiar with wine kits but I'm fairly familiar with winemaking and some people who do it. Admittedly, I know way more about grapes that make good wine or diagnosing a problem with bad wine than the actual wine making.


But in my experience you'll probably end up with a "tannic" or "hot" wine, meaning it will give you an acidic or mouth drying effect. Some people like that though, one of our better wine regions in Ca is pretty famous for that style.


Wish I could help more! If you're making it a regular hobby and have any specific questions I know some actual enologist that can probably answer some stuff.

You're dead right Senor, did a bit of research and others compared the wine kits taste to that of hot wine too.


I'll take you up on that cheers, its my first brew and I'm a total novice so I'm sure it isn't going to go smoothly. To be honest if the first brew doesn't blind me I'll consider it a relative success.

What do they send you in a wine kit anyway? Do you get actual grape juice?


Coincidentally, my first attempt at a home brew beer kit is ready this weekend. I have about the same hopes as you do.

East Coasters, anyone familiar with Tioga-Sierra beer?

Coincidentally, my first attempt at a home brew beer kit is ready this weekend. I have about the same hopes as you do.

Basically just grape concentrate and a few other bits. A $35 dollar kit makes 30 bottles of wine, which is sound.
