I'm looking into getting a smoking gun for bourbon.

I had some at the Shim Sham Room and now I'm hooked.
Ask and she shall receive!

Nah, Shim Sham used to be McCool's on 1st Street in Jax Beach. It's a nice place to hang out.

I just like the attention.

But they have a "gun" there that infuses smoke into the bourbon bottle.

Amazing flavor.

Think ive already said this on here, but i think jaxson deville is part owner of shim shams... Cool place too.

Anyway crown and gingers have been hittin my spot lately on the golf corse... Oh yeah, and bloddy marys on slighly warm days :-)

Somone showed me a bloody mary with clamato instead of tomato or zing zang.. Good stuff, little Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, hot sauce that isnt trash, decent vodka, clamato, and you got a damn good bloody mary.... The clamato makes it little saltier and less v8 tasting and ,IMO, way better.

Haha!

I need to see this smoke gun.
OK, Had to rescue this from page 5. And I'll admit I have not had a drink of alcohol since 1/7/15 but all that's about to change

Thread bump.

Been checking out some really nice "reserve" and "pot-still" Irish whiskies lately. Great stuff. It's what Jameson wants to be when it grows up, gets a Harvard degree and retires to a private island in Bali after a few years making billions in venture capital.

Favorites are Green Spot and it's big brother Yellow Spot.

Also the Red-Breast 12 and 15 are quite good!!

I'm no expert...but that seems really small for breasts.
More info on the 'spot' branded pot-still Irish whiskies....

Quote:It’s hard to fathom that some of the most anticipated whiskey releases in recent years are named after, well, colored spots. Yellow Spot originated in the late 1800s — there were a whole host of “Spot” whiskies made by the Mitchell family back in the day, including the beloved Green Spot, which were made at Jameson and placed into a variety of empty barrels provided by the Mitchells then aged back at the Mitchell cellars. This practice was known as whiskey bonding and was quite popular in the first half of 20th century Ireland.

By the 1960s nearly all the Spots had vanished (along with much of the rest of the Irish whiskey industry), and eventually Green Spot was handed over to Irish Distillers in the 1970s. Green Spot — finally — came to the U.S. last year, and now Yellow Spot, formally relaunched in Ireland in 2012, has arrived on our shores, too.

Green Spot is said to be 7 to 8 years old (though it carries no age statement), 25% aged in sherry casks. Yellow Spot is a much different animal. 12 years old, stated on the label, this single pot still whiskey is aged in a combination of American bourbon, Spanish sherry, and Spanish Malaga casks. (Malaga is another Spanish fortified wine in the vein of sherry.)

But you maybe knew all that. Here’s what the experience of this newly available dram is like.

The nose is fresh cinnamon rolls, dense honey, raisins, and lots of mixed, fresh fruits. Notes of crushed red pepper emerge over time, lending heat to the aroma. The palate is grainy and full of notes of fresh biscuits, crushed cookies, and, later, vanilla custard and butterscotch. The finish is lightly nutty, warming, and loaded with more granary notes. Some sea spray and iodine sneaks in there, before a marshmallow sweetness takes hold to finish things off.

92 proof.

The Yellow Spot runs about $80 a bottle and the green is around 55-60.
NYC I just picked up a bottle of Yellow on your recommendation.
Quote:Usual for me Crown and a splash of Coke. :woot:
I am not big on liquor, but I do enjoy a really well made mojito

I had one in Dohar which was called a Fidel Castro

She told me it basically consists of Ginger Ale Soda, Brown Sugar, Mint Leaves press hard on them for a sec or two, and really good Rum.

Give us your thoughts when you have a chance to crack it open!
Just for old times sake (and nothing better to do because my internet was down then) I drank a 12 pack of MGD in the bottles on June 1. Forgotten how good Miller was for just a beer to have on a hot day.

NYC.

Yellow Spot = Gold.

Redbreast = :/
Honored that you've made the comparison....

But... which Redbreast are we talking about? 12?

(I prefer the YellowSpot to the RB12, btw.... but they are quite different)

I've had Laphroig 15, Redbreast 15, and Yellow Spot tonight.

I think I'd have to rate them YS, LP, RB... the YS is just so unique, loving it so far. Thanks for the rec!

But the be fair, RB was one of the latter drinks, I'm not too sure it was an accurate representation.
