Are you joking?

Jacksonville is loaded with military and you want this individual's publicity?

As a veteran, I think it would be a HUGE mistake...
I understand that we all have our own opinions but I've never understood this take by some of my fellow military veterans. I mean freedom of speech for all Americans is literally one the rights we fight for. We may not always agree with it but it is a right. As for this move, I am fine with it. I really can't see anyone playing worse than BB5 at this point. I cringe everytime he drops back. Plus #wintoday loses credibility the longer you stick with the main cause of our losing.

You waited too late Doug. You guys were unprepared for what many of us saw coming.

If that's even close to being true, I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry.. prolly both..

Haha

It is possible that Nassib was brought in as a third QB with the intention of possibly sitting Bortles at some point during the season to prevent him from getting injured, allowing the team to avoid being on the hook for that $19M nut next year.

Nassib is familiar with Hackett, Marrone, and Coughlin, so he should be at least somewhat comfortable with the system, and would be able to step in as a backup.

There's also a matter of Bortles' wrist injury which may have the team concerned.

It was certainly a surprise that they decided to make a move like this now, unless either one of the two thoughts above have some merit.

I don't think the front office brought Nassib in to be the guy, but he's definitely an insurance policy.
Man. Remember when we all thought we had our QB and that we didn't have to have these convos again? Those were the days.
I don't think they signed him to make him 3rd string. They could have just kept Brandon Allen for that.

Unless they had a couple of off seasons of watching Allen and decided it was time to move on.
His throwing motion....looks like a MLB pitcher with all those fastballs.
Watched some highlights on him and he looks good. Mobile in the pocket and throws bullets.
He will be the starter by week 4 IMO
LOL, this thread is pure gold.

Desperation move?  Hardly.  Competition?  I seriously doubt it.

My guess is that he was brought in for a couple of reasons.

First, they probably need another "arm" for practices and game planning.  My guess is the original plan was to have that "extra arm" be Allen by planning to sign him to the practice squad.  Since he got picked up by another team they had to find another arm.

Second, he could be an "insurance policy" should there be a significant injury to Bortles and/or Henne.  He's not going to be any better or any worse than Allen.  The only way that he will be active on game day is if either Bortles or Henne has a significant injury.

My guess is that he was signed to the active squad because he is probably ineligible for the practice squad.

lol.... along with those hypothetical scenarios in which we asked ... would you trade him for [insert star player here]

.... the good news is the Colts may be in worse shape than us carrying Luck and his $3 billion in salary cap hits.
`Nassib had a bad preseason but he has led some legendary comebacks his first 3 preseasons. One game I thnk it was against the Colts they were down by 4 Tds with 11 minutes left and Nassib led the Giants to a win.
He will soon be the starter
This move really isn't surprising considering he has previously worked with both Marrone and Coughlin. It is difficult to get excited about this move for one simple reason; if they thought he really had potential to be a respectable starter they would have signed him much earlier. My guess is that yesterday's "performance" by Bortles proved to Coughlin that there is no way he can stick with him after this season. Once the Jaguars are out of the playoff hunt (their easy schedule may actually keep them in the hunt until mid-November or early December- depending on how good the Titans are), they will sit Bortles to prevent having to pay him the guaranteed money next year.

My concern is the offensive line showed it's "true colors" yesterday and the chances of Bortles getting a significant injury by mid-season are probably about 50-50. They will then be stuck with having to pay him the money regardless. What a waste of money that would be! For that reason, the smart move would be to play Henne for a week or two prior to starting Nassib. I'm not at all saying that either of these guys will do well since we've already seen Henne and Nassib is just "another guy." This will not happen because it would be an admission by both Coughlin and Caldwell that they blew it in the off-season by not even bringing in a possible replacement for Bortles. I'll bet anything that Coughlin is especially "kicking himself" now for not doing this since he had no ties to Bortles and had to know from looking at the film that the guy just doesn't have what it takes to be a starting quarterback. For anyone who says that there just wasn't anyone worth pursuing, I say this thought is ridiculous. Nobody could be worse than Bortles was last season! Nassib was actually considered a good prospect by many when the Giants drafted him 4 years ago. His strengths were his fast release and intelligence. Unfortunately, his greatest weakness of not having "good touch" on short passes did not appear to improve much while he was with the Giants. That does not bode well for guys like Keelan Cole, Mercedes Lewis and Marquis Lee.

Regardless of how this plays out, let's just hope that the Jaguars select a new general manager after this season who knows more about quarterbacks than his predecessors. If he takes the "right guy," whether it be a draft choice or free agent, this team will finally be able to turn the corner.

Legendary !!!  They are still talking about those comebacks in the Bronx.
LOL.  The comedy still continues in this thread.  If I was a betting man I would bet that Nassib isn't on the active roster for a single game this season unless there is a significant injury to Bortles or Henne.
*sigh*

Whatever
Marrone kept mentioning Bortles wrist injury in his presser today almost as if to prime the media of a possible change at the position "due to injury". That or Bortles wrist is more serious than previously thought.
Not sure if this has been posted but..... super bowl!
