It's sad that we could've got Sammy Watkins or Khalil Mack and then Carr in round 2
Quote:I have a co-worker who's son is currently on UCF's team and was redshirted during Bortles junior year and he said he wasn't well liked on the team and George O'Leary was not sad to see him jump to the NFL.

Let me guess, because he's a leader and a winner and got on teammates case for mediocre performance, like a Kobe Bryant, michael Jordan. He had a strong drive and desire to be great. Spacecoastjag

And with Gus, those 3 would be garbage

No, it was because he had a poor work ethic preparing for games and thought he could skirt by with his talent. That is possible when you're playing at UCF but won't cut it at the NFL level.

Exactly.

This team had the talent. This coach can't manage the talent. He is ruining this team.

We could have fired him after London...
Quote:He had a lot of potential

Had.

I have to agree with you _Aman, he HAD a lot of potential.

He had some things to work on and with the right coaching staff, maybe he could have become a good starting QB, but at this point, it sure doesn't look like that's going to happen.
Quote:I'm not sure what is going on with Bortles, but it looks like something has gotten into his head and he just doesn't have all his stuff in the same sock at this time. It appears almost like he's throwing the football like it was a baseball; he consistently stares down his target; he too often tries to force throws that he shouldn't, with the result being a lot of picks; in short, he's struggling badly and hurting the offense. We could hardly do worse right now if we put in Chad.

Have you no mercy?

The sad thing is that right now, he's not wrong.

Blake is playing some extremely bad football. He has played 2 really bad games against horrid and sometimes historically bad defenses. Literally every single other team has shredded the Raiders. But somehow, we can't.... on a home game?!

Believable considering how hes playing, like he didn't prepare at all this offseason. I highly doubt Bortles is watching film during his off time.
Jacksonville...where potentially good quarterbacks go to die. Sad
It's our entire offense.

He was never potentially good to begin with. He was raw, came from a spread offense, a jacked up throwing motion, low football IQ.
Its really awful the way Bortles lets the defense hit the running back in the backfield on pretty much every run play. He should've worked on his blocking this summer.

Last year he looked like he could be legit. His motion was tighter, he didn't look like he was forcing his motion, and he didn't throw flat on his heels.

He also at least pretended to be active in pre-snap recognition.

He looks worse now than even his rookie year.
Blake has been really bad. No doubt.

But do you really think this coaching staff is putting him in the best situation to succeed? Blake plays well when rolling out and in the no huddle. So what do the Jags do? Continue running the same offense they've been doing since week 1 which clearly isn't working.

I believe that Blake would be able to succeed with someone like Kubiak or McDaniels or Arians. Coaches who actually know how to groom a QB from year to year. Olson does good for one year (Josh Freeman) and then people figure him out and the next year is awful.
I'm being dead serious about this.....his motion is worse than Leftwich and Tebow.
It's not just his motion though, I wish it was just that...it's his awareness, decision making, reading defenses and football IQ that's worrying and makes me doubt he can ever be good enough to be a starting QB in this league.

Bad motion or not, it's not acceptable to see him throwing into triple coverages like he did so many times today. (even the announcers were almost making fun of that). The first INT is not about his motion about his mental game.

Same goes with other situations today, or like in the San Diego game when he got intercepted throwing into triple coverage to Greene (with Hurns open on a few yards on the left) or last year at New England on the first INT again in triple coverage, or against Carolina last year INT for throwing at Yeldon who was super covered, againstTampa Bay last and others. It's always the same kind of mistakes, only even worse and more often this year.

Accuracy and bad throws are a huge problem but If it was just the motion well...maybe (maybe) we could try fixing that a bit more like last year (although that wouldn't be enough still as he lacks accuracy) but this season everything else is missing...and he supposedly worked on that this last offseason (said he spent much less time with Tom House and others and spent more time studying film...well as a result we have a terrible motion back and he still can't play smart)

It's hard to watch.

I agree with everything you said.

Be honest....does anybody see him taking the Blaine Gabbert path?

What he did Josh Freeman as well? Crappola thats exactly who I was thinking Blake was playing like. Freeman fell off a cliff after his one good year. Not something to emulate.

No he won't go into the fetal position. Too bad we can't combine Gabbert's throwing motion with Bortles' gunslinger mentality.
