Quote:I felt like leaving when he threw the INT into triple coverage with two receivers running wide open on the other side of the field.

He was horrible yesterday....HORRIBLE.

For the first time ever...I was the first one back to the parking lot in our tailgating group.  I just couldn't take it any more.

On the positive side, the chili was really good.

I stopped watched after Greene's muffed punt (no lie) and ended up going to a friend's house to play Malifaux instead. First time I've ever done that when the Jags were playing. Sad

This is not the Blake we saw last season. He's not even seeing the field anymore.
I hate to say it, but Henne could probably have us sitting at 4-2 or 5-1 right now.

Quote:His arm is lazy. The TD he threw to JT should have been picked. And what was that first pick all about. He just throws it up there and prays his WR will go get it.

I'm going to be honest about it. He ain't the Franchise QB we all want. He's just a guy at this point.

Ugh. I hate that I agree with this. He makes the most routine throws that an NFL qb should make, look like the most difficult throws. He has regressed so much, it might be unfixable.

Henne is the master at throwing checkdowns, and unfortunately, that is what the offense is doing. Bortles is struggling to even throw accurately on a checkdown.

I don't see that.  With no real run game, he wouldn't do any better.  At least Bortles has shown flashes.  Henne is crap.
Well, Henne probably wouldn't have as many turnovers as Bortles...but probably like 40 batted balls at the LOS.

So it's a wash in the batted ball category...

I have to disagree with that, and that's the sad problem.  Fool's gold stats last year, my eyes told me he did NOT throw a good & accurate ball then (and friends/family/other fans told me I was wrong and overly cynical --- and believe me I really wanted to be wrong), couple that with bad decisions and turnovers that have also been there all along.  He's the same now just without the fluky garbage stats, and it's not going to change.  So what we have is a busted draft "project", which was a serious risk when drafting a QB who needed a throwing overhaul at #3, and yes that means we're in for some more tough years because we do NOT have anything that could be turned into a franchise QB by even a magician.
Does anyone else notice that even on completed passes, Bortles double-clutches?   It's not a pump fake, he pulls the ball back, hesitates, and then throws it.   He doesn't have the confidence to just throw it.  It's like he wants a little more assurance that the receiver is actually open.

From my memory this season, I can only remember Blake making one truly really good throw and that was the TD to Julius in week 1.

The majority of his yards in this game came from throwing it to crossing routes and then Lee took it. He just doesn't make good throws man. His ball placement is flat out atrocious and in his 3rd year, thats inexcusable.
I'm not sure what to think.  Here are the things that I think I know, some of which are obvious:

- Blake has regressed.  Duh.

- At least a part of his regression seems to be a return to sloppy mechanics that appeared to be somewhat improved during last season

- The entire offense has seemingly regressed and we have absolutely zero running game.  Duh.

- I am very skeptical of our offensive coaching and our head coach at this point and believe a change is almost certainly in order

- Defense isn't great, but (god, I can't believe I'm about to use this expression) I think the arrow is pointing up on that side of the field.  I believe the above points are holding the defense back from being even more improved.  Some work here is obviously still required.

Here's where I get a little confused................If I believe, as I do, that Blake has regressed, and I also believe that he's received poor coaching, poor offensive line play, and zero running game, then is it possible that he'd be at least an "adequate" starting-caliber NFL quarterback if he had competent coaching and some semblance of a running game? To those that might sneer at accepting an "adequate starting-caliber NFL quarterback", they don't exactly grow on trees.  And, you can win a Super Bowl with one.  Trent Dilfer, maybe Brad Johnson, etc.................anyway, as QB is by far the most important position on the field, I think it means we have to very soon do whatever we can to answer the above question.  Which means we have to fire our coach and begin the process of trying to rebuild Blake and retool the offense, particularly the running game.  The sooner the better.  I'm an FSU fan, but I always admired the UF AD, Jeremy Whathisname.........he had this expression that he used around the time he fired one of his struggling coaches (Zook, maybe?) that I thought was pretty sharp: "What must be done eventually, must be done immediately."

1.  Fire Gus

2.  Try to save Blake

3.  If #2 doesn't work, find a new QB

Anything else is a waste of time, in my opinion

Look at his throwing motion...

Bwahahahahaha

Who the hell are we looking at Blake Bortles or Byron Manwhich/Tebow

I was going to say something similar.  Bortles is now a QB who, grew up in Florida, went to a Florida University, can't throw accurately, runs ok, can't read defenses, has a big windup, and only comes to life in the last 90 seconds of a half.  He basically is Tebow.

The difference is that Bortles cost us the second overall pick in the draft and Tebow was available on the street for league minimum.

Even Trevor Siemian is better than Bortles. All these QBs and the Jaguars are still searching for one. Also Dak Prescott.

Kessler for the Browns looks much better. Wentz is way better. Brissett looked better.

Every year an assortment of high draft picks and random nobodies will start and look better than our trash QB. It's just like the Gabbert years.
The Browns have had 6 QBs throw a pass this year, and somehow they've all looked better than Blake...

Maybe we can trade Bortles for Kevin Hogan. I'm kind of joking but not really.
Why are the only good spirals from Bortles on the run? Footwork or release?
