I'm not ready to hop off the Bortles bandwagon just yet...

but maybe Caldwell is pretty good on hedging his bets.

Signing Beachum to cover for Joker

Nabbing Malik to replace Marks (who isn't completely done yet)

Signing Ivory when he saw Yeldon wasn't a bellcow or whatever...

Maybe there is a reason we drafted and kept Allen the QB.

I hope Bortles turns it around. I think he can. I don't buy that ALL of his good play has come in garbage time or against soft coverage D.

I watched enough games to know that most of it came from the fact that we couldn't run, our weapons were much unknown to the league, Bortles had to throw a lot because the D was so bad.

If he was truly, really bad... he wouldn't have compiled the stats at all.

Plenty of QBs just plain suck.

Maybe its true he isn't a true franchise QB. But it's only year 3 for a guy who came out early and has had, to much of the boards agreement, bad coaching.

He isn't as far off as it seems most of you want to believe. His issue isn't so much mechanical as it is mental. He is clearly thinking way too much and not playing relaxed at all.

Last season he actually moved really well in the pocket and sensed pressure well but now all of that has vanished for some reason and he is playing very timid. Last year he would actually move to his second and sometimes even his third option. This year he is locking onto someone and trying to force a bad throw...and why is that? Dude is clearly aiming his throws which is a recipe for disaster.

To me his mental issues are causing him to play tight and force throws and decisions which, to me, is the main culprit for the regression in mechanics and therefore the play. The question we all are asking is why is this happening? We all assume its Bradley, me included, but it may not be. That being said this coaching staff is hot garbage and will never put anyone in position to succeed and if Bridgewater were the QB here we'd be jonesing for a new one.

Chris Simms? Hahahaha. The guy couldn't even hold down a back up job in the NFL and it gives him the balls to criticize another QB. Bortles isn't playing great but I don't think last year was an anomaly either. That said, when he turns it around, this thread will be full of crow eaters.

When you have been hit as many times as him over the past couple of years I would play timid too. It's a reflex and most would be like it's fixable but until that line protects him better for an extended period where he doesn't take as many shots then he will continue to play timid.

that's just not the case at all.  it may be your opinion that it's a mental issue, but the fact is that his mechanics are way off this year.

as I said before, it's like we drafted a shooting guard that has a terrible shooting motion that needs to get re-built.  Time will tell whether he will succeed.

Then why were his mechanics much better last year than they are now? Did he just forget? Your brain moves your arms and your feet. Right now for him the tail is wagging the dog.

This is too true.
I'd be willing to bet he is thinking about his mechanics often...including in-game. If you are thinking about it as you're doing it you will look slow and like ish

Like Michael Jordan, terrible outside shooter at first then became decent later in his career. Bortles will be great in year 2020, we must have patience.

We might be wasting our time in here, the lot of them wants a fire sale apparently and wants to blame anyone and everyone.
Chris Simms opinion of BB5's QB play is like  a fresh dog poo's opinion on the aroma of a blooming flower.

where can I get the Bortles sneaker
Well, whatever is going on, all we can really do is hope that he can improve.  As of today, Blake has 5 TDs and 6 INTs.  If that keeps up, he'll end up with ~23 TDs and 31 INTs.  That's not real good.

I just looked it up, the most recent qb with 30+ ints was Vinny Testaverde at 34, in his second year.
Operation: Click Bait <SUCCESS>

It's not bad enough it's friggin' Bleacher Report (should be renamed Make Me Want to Chug Bleach Report), but it's from a QB who makes Quinn Gray look like Tom Brady.

File under: Who cares?

That pretty much covers it.
Quote:Great coaches know that you gotta keep that motion high and tight.

Classic. Great job on that one
Quote:I've seen people say Dave needs to be fired as well. I get the concern with Bortles but We have no o-line and no running game and that makes his faults just that much worse.
And who's fault is it we have no o-line and running game?

Haha exactly, I like Dave as much as anyone on this board but people are acting as if he's built an early 90's Cowboy's-esque roster
