Quote:I don't remember hearing anything about it. I know he worked with A-Rob and few of the others guys in the offseason.

When making a change to anything, you need constant supervision if you are going to do it correctly. Even Tiger Woods never made a swing change on his own.

My guess is Bortles bought into the hype, rested on his laurels. He probably had an idea of what he needed to work on but slowly went back to his old habits along the way.

Of course, if he did work with House this past off-season, my entire theory is debunked.
Quote:I understand where you're coming from, I'm not ready to give up on Blake either, but a guy like Ryan Fitzpatrick threw 30+TD's last year too. To be honest I don't care about the # of TD's Blake threw last year, they threw the ball a lot because of a bad defense and a non existent running game. When I'm watching a QB I'm looking for specific things, mechanics (particularly how fast the ball comes out), anticipation, ball placement, accuracy, movement in the pocket, 3rd down efficiency, red-zone efficiency etc..., it's ridiculous to expect a young QB to perform at a high level in all these areas, but there are certain attributes (like his mechanics/throwing motion that effect his accuracy/ball placement) that are difficult to "fix". Its painfully clear that defenses have adjusted to this "big play" offense by keeping their safeties back, shading coverage over to A-Robs side of the field, subsequently "funneling" Blake's reads & throws to short/intermediate/middle of the field, where he's uncomfortable. A quick release, accuracy/ball placement are crucial to be successful in attacking that part of the field, that's just the physical, he also struggles in the mental part of the game in terms of anticipation, reading coverage, and situational football. He's a 3rd year QB that looks like a "raw" rookie, that's alarming.
You kind of described Colin Kaeperinick struggles in his passing game. Jags are screwed.
You know we don't do anything that is normally done to help a young QB either.  The run blocking has been atricious for the entire Gus Bradley error.

2014 - 1323 yards rushing with 419 being his yards

2015 - 1307 yards rushing with 310 being his yards

That is bleak.

He didn't work with him.  I remember reading about him opting to put in work with the receivers instead.

That is on Blake then.

The team can't MAKE him do something in the off-season. He should have proactively worked with House. Oh well.
Quote:The way Simms admires our weapons on the outside qbs like brady, manning, Rodgers, would have 50tds and 5000+ passing yards at the end of the season easily.

We're leaving big plays and points on the field, our skill positions are loaded with dynamic players. Check out the third play in this article http://bigbored.com/just-how-bad-is-blake-bortles/, if Blake throws an accurate ball to the middle part of the field it's a long TD to Marqise Lee, if you watch the All-22 you'll notice guys running open all the time, Blake doesn't find them because he locks on to his primary read, and forces the ball. The play against Green Bay at the end of the game comes to mind, he forces the ball to Rashad Greene (who was held) but Allen Hurns was wide open, this QB misses rudimentary reads and is inaccurate on rudimentary passes. If Tom Brady (or any competent QB) played in this offense we'd drop 27-30 every week!

Definitely not ready to cut ties with Bort just yet. Too many questions left of the table.

What about the questions to the right of the table?

Sorry, messy desk. Those belong on the left.
Quote:He has looked bad this year. Really bad. But I'm not giving up on a guy who threw 35 TDS last season. He's in a really bad slump right now, and hopefully this coaching staff can pull him out of it. We know he's got the talent... I just think the pressure of having to carry this team every week is starting to effect his psyche. Gotta give this man a running game, and then he has to adjust his mindset that he doesn't have to make the big play every play.

How many of those 35TDS came in the 1st half? Or in the 3rd or 4th quarter to tie the game or take the lead? Answer is not many.

Most came when trailing by 2 scores or more. He needs to play better when the score is close or tied.

Kaep's early success was due to a dominant o-line, which produced a dominant run game, aided by a dominant defense. Because their run was so dominant, teams were forced to almost exclusively play man coverage, while committing an extra defender in the box. Man coverage is a lot easier to read and when the play breaks down, Kaep was afforded huge running lanes because the linebacker and secondary defenders (typically) had the backs turned away from him, covering their "man" downfield. When the run game fell off, teams played more zone, forcing Kaep to actually read coverage while keeping their eyes on him at all times, that's what happens at this level. Teams make adjustments, they always try to force your weakness, if players can't adjust themselves they won't be playing for long.

we are unable to cut ties with him now.  Too much invested in him.

Gus and Caldwell are basically just hoping and praying he improves by himself now.

I personally don't think this will end well.  At the start of the 2018 season I don't think Bortles will be playing for us.

Good find!

I like this part: " He is arguably playing like the worst quarterback in the NFL, and the rest of the season should essentially be viewed as an extended tryout"
Isn't Chris Simms the guy who puts Andrew Luck above Tom Brady on his QB rankings?

I think Bortles can turn it around.  We need some competent coaches for that to happen though.  Not to mention a running game that doesn't mainly feature our QB.

Wait, we are overreacting, Bortles and Olson say everything will be fine.
Mechanics aren't causing him to have the inability to hit even the most routine passes in stride?

Man, if you have the coordinator drinking the Gus juice, you know we are in deep crap.

i haven't seen him hit almost anybody in stride since he's been here
I just can't believe how many "fans" are still whining and crying.

Did I hallucinate 2015 Blake Bortles???

I'd get considering ending the experiment if 2015 didn't happen, however, he has noticeably regressed from what I'd consider a good 2015 campaign. Perhaps we could wait out the rest of this season to see if Blake can fix his issues before declaring 2015's second ranked QB in TD passes and seventh in yardage a bust?
We've lost 3 games this year let's just flush everything and start over. You guys wanna become the Cleveland Browns cause that's how you become the Cleveland Browns.

I say we dump Gus first and see if Bortles gets better.
