Quote:Meh, too early, Bortles and Wentz are the same age.  Did Simms say end the Andrew Luck experiment after his 2015 season?  Slightly agree about Bortles not being a "natural" QB though.

Wentz and Bortles aren't on the same page, Wentz (surprisingly) looks like one of the more polished QB's to come out of college in a long time, it's impressive considering he played at NDSU. Carson's mechanics are light years better than Bortles, he sees the field better and throws a better ball, I'd be willing to bet most GM's would take Wentz over Bortles 100 out of 100 times.
Quote:He has looked bad this year. Really bad. But I'm not giving up on a guy who threw 35 TDS last season. He's in a really bad slump right now, and hopefully this coaching staff can pull him out of it. We know he's got the talent... I just think the pressure of having to carry this team every week is starting to effect his psyche. Gotta give this man a running game, and then he has to adjust his mindset that he doesn't have to make the big play every play.

The sooner you realize THIS coaching staff isn't coming to the rescue, the better off you will be. They are wreaking havoc on the entire team, killing it from within.
Quote:You totally discounted completely valid points about our QB. Nobody likes to hear it, but he said nothing that wasn't true.

I was just kidding. I didn't even care to watch the video. I know he isn't playing well right now, but I'm not gonna give up on Bortles right now. Coaching staff is a different story.
Does Philip Rivers have a strong arm or great mechanics?

Things will play out.  I like Bortles but if he can't happen with him, well we will back at it again.

Completely agree about this "coaching" staff. I realized it in week 1 when we did a screen pass on 4th and 1, and then the San Diego game...

Neither. He is smart and can read a defense.
Damn, I just watched the video, and Simms is right. Take off your teal glasses off people. I could Caldwell have drafted someone at #3 who isn't a natural football thrower. Dumb.
I'm not giving up on Blake, but every day he spends with this coaching staff is another 2 day setback on his career. They are THAT bad.

I agree.  That is why I don't throw in with the "lock on" the first read or a particular receiver arguments as well.  It is really really hard to get a true read on where our QB position is going when you have a guy that was drubbed into the ground last year and has to deal with this coaching staff.
Way to early for me to get on this bus. I will tell you what, if we don't see improvement at all from Blake throughout the season I will hop on. He has a lot of time to correct his flaws. Without doubt if he continues to play the entire season as he has the first 3 games, you gotta cut bait and move on.

Wow, dump a 24 year old QB after two bad games?

Rivers does have a really strong arm.

Are we thinking about Brees, perhaps?

Dave can fire the HC and his staff if he doesn't think they are grooming him properly. Dave doesn't get a free pass after the draft.
Big question. Did Bortles continue to work with House this past off-season? The answer to this question dictates if he is our long term answer.

Well, he's a garbage time qb too!

Although Bortles is just a slow starter... or atleast he was before this regression he's displayed. He did look good against Green Bay, but like Seldom said, two bad games and Simms wants us to give up on him

.
The way Simms admires our weapons on the outside qbs like brady, manning, Rodgers, would have 50tds and 5000+ passing yards at the end of the season easily.

I don't remember hearing anything about it. I know he worked with A-Rob and few of the others guys in the offseason.

No Dave isn't going to be getting a pass either.  I'm baffled by them pairing up contract lengths to his.  If your David Caldwell, why would you not only keep Gus this year but make his contract end the same as yours?
Henne and Allen aren't the answer this year.  3 games into the season, I wouldn't throw the towel in on Blake yet.

I understand where you're coming from, I'm not ready to give up on Blake either, but a guy like Ryan Fitzpatrick threw 30+TD's last year too. To be honest I don't care about the # of TD's Blake threw last year, they threw the ball a lot because of a bad defense and a non existent running game. When I'm watching a QB I'm looking for specific things, mechanics (particularly how fast the ball comes out), anticipation, ball placement, accuracy, movement in the pocket, 3rd down efficiency, red-zone efficiency etc..., it's ridiculous to expect a young QB to perform at a high level in all these areas, but there are certain attributes (like his mechanics/throwing motion that effect his accuracy/ball placement) that are difficult to "fix". Its painfully clear that defenses have adjusted to this "big play" offense by keeping their safeties back, shading coverage over to A-Robs side of the field, subsequently "funneling" Blake's reads & throws to short/intermediate/middle of the field, where he's uncomfortable. A quick release, accuracy/ball placement are crucial to be successful in attacking that part of the field, that's just the physical, he also struggles in the mental part of the game in terms of anticipation, reading coverage, and situational football. He's a 3rd year QB that looks like a "raw" rookie, that's alarming.
