I've zero problems with African Americans being punished for crimes they committed if they have been proven guilty for them, up to and including the death penalty. But let them make it to jail and court and let the punishment fit the crime.
Late response here but you're incorrect. I've never been given an arrest quota no matter how badly you'd like to believe it. However, I was once told to issue a certain number of citations, and that was from a black supervisor. It was also in against a minority community. I refused and had to tell him the problem with it. But, hell, mean ole white cop is a racist, right? Honestly, you wont care and will quickly forget it so you can go back to thinking I'm racist. You're so quick to judge while simultaneously condemning me for supposedly doing that to others.
I'd like to see your evidence that white police officers shoot black people more than white or more than black officers do. The last I read, black officers are just as likely to shoot black people as white officers.
You ignore that sometimes, Bullseye, people die because they did something to deserve it. Policing isn't pretty. Violent people often do violent things, and just because a cop kills you, it doesn't mean it's unjustified. Because I always have to clarify it, I don't believe every police shooting is a good one. The very nature of the job requires that people with guns enforce laws against people that refuse to listen to them. There will always be the human element, and humans make mistakes. I don't believe, however, that those mistakes are racially motivated.

Exactly. I served as a deputy sheriff for a short period of time in my younger years. I quickly found out that it was not what I wanted to do as a career. It is an extremely high stress job and sadly I lost a couple of friends because of it. People don't realize what a police officer sees and has to do every day.
Regarding this Ahmaud Arbery case, I do think that the prosecution over-stepped a bit with the charges (mainly because of public pressure). My best guess for doing so is that they didn't want the case to go to trial and were/are hoping for a plea deal down to a lesser charge. Many media outlets are still portraying him as "just being out for a jog" when other evidence makes it seem very unlikely. I am by no means saying that his death was justified in any way, but I do think that the prosecution is going to have a hard time getting a conviction on the charges given the evidence that we have seen.
By the way. Using a racial slur after the confrontation is not evidence.
The News4Jax summary of the court case was completely damning for the 3 defendants. The showed the map of the neighborhood and the movements of the victim and the two vehicles and it's obvious why the prosecution is going for elevated charges. There were numerous opportunities for the murderers to back off and they did not, the evidence that the defendants struck the victim with their moving vehicles gives Arbery a legitimate "feared for my life" reason to physically engage the murderers once he couldn't run away from them (which he did several times in the chase), the timing of the gunshots that show the shooter actually shot him at the initiation of the fight, and yes JIB, the recorded use of racial epithets after the altercation which clearly contributes to motive. They maliciously killed that guy and should go to jail for decades as a result.
Good info. This is why this stuff should go to trial. I think any case that rises to national prominence should have it's trial be made public.

I thought that it was testimony not an actual recording, but either way these guys are toast. At this point i would say there is a greater chance of Georgia repealing the CA law than these guys being able to use it as a viable defense given the facts surrounding the case and the PR (jurors come from somewhere) associated with the use of racial epithets.
I am praying for a plea bargain.

At this point i would say there is a greater chance of Georgia repealing the CA law than these guys being able to use it as a viable defense given the facts surrounding the case and the PR (jurors come from somewhere) associated with the use of racial epithets.

It was testimony, which hopefully was given at the scene or in interviews immediately afterwards. If it was after the media circus then you can't believe any of it. I doubt the prosecutor will offer a plea deal. There is no way they get a fair trial if they are innocent. They are already convicted and even if someone wants to find them not guilty, I don't see a way a juror would risk being exposed for voting not guilty.
I've been a juror with a bunch of liberals who didn't want to convict the guy of breaking in and attacking a woman with her 2 kids in the house because they were arguing and she stabbed him during the fight. He also went and took the younger kid to the bus stop because she had fled with her other kid who saw the fight. The DA overcharged kidnapping, the police didn't do much investigation, and she was a deadbeat who already wanted him back. All but 1 other woman said they didn't want to send him to jail for a bunch of years, not that he was not guilty.
This will be the opposite and they will be guilty no matter what the evidence says. As more evidence comes out it does look like they won't be able to use citizens arrest law, but even if they are able to it won't matter.

The governments case is gaining steam, but on the off chance that one juror wants to set the country ablaze, i just hope they find a way to plead out. Because once you get away from the citizens arrest statute (that I don't really like in this situation anyway) I think that you could even run the risk of Murder 1 because of the amount of effort put into the chase while armed and potential hate crime if they show a history of racial animus. This isn't purely a legal opinion, this is a please Gosh, your going to jail anyway don't give people a reason to burn our houses down, opinion.

They hit a running man with their truck. This isn't a purely legal opinion, but that seems quite excessive and worthy of a long jail sentence in and of itself. if they don't convict I might just join the rioting myself. It seems rather chic at the moment.
If you're gonna use Gosh as a substitute for God, at least don't capitalize it.
