Just watched a clip of him being drafted and on the phone. By the look of his facial expression, you'd think he was just drafted to Auschwitz.
This was a clear cut case of drafting for need. We needed a CB and Caldwell had his mind locked in on drafting a CB at #9. There is no way anyone will ever convince me that he was the 9th best overall player in that draft. I said it then and I'll say it again, he wasn't even the 2nd best CB in the draft. It makes sick that we passed on Tristan Wirfs to make him the selection. We could've had Wirfs at #9 and taken a superior CB talent like Jaylon Johnson (who I wanted,) with our second round selection. On top of the fact he was the wrong choice from a talent perspective, now we're dealing with the "off the field" baggage. It's almost like Caldwell did no research on this kid at all.

Same crap we saw from Caldwell when he panicked and flushed a third rounder on Quincy Williams.

He could recognize receiver talent but that was about it.

Stupid [BLEEP] should feel fortunate that he's even in the league and has an opportunity to take care of his family financially for the foreseeable future.

He needs a punch in the mouth wake up call.. I hope someone gives it to him soon.
Congrats!

It’s only Monday and you’ve managed to secure the worst post of the week.

Glad you enjoyed it, snowflake

Remember all the crap on MSM about that look he gave when he got drafted by the Jags?

That was awful.. It was like someone murdered one of his family members. I think dude mentally checked out at that moment..

I can just hear Caldwell talking to him on the phone...

"We're going to pick you, CJ, how do you feel about that?"

"Ahh.... Man, I don't know .. pssshiii... I'm, do I have to do anything before you guys give me a giant check?"

"No.... You get paid first...."

"Shhhhheeeeiii.... Well... I guess that's fine..." (After Caldwell hangs up and muttered under his breath) "[BLEEP]... Why did it have to be the jag wads?..."

Even if he hated having Caldwell and co and he mentally checked out after being drafted, you would think he'd snap out of it with a fresh start with UM and his crew? I mean, on paper it's a major step up from what this club had as far as staff and coaching from last season.
C.J. being on the trading block is saddening news to me. BUT, we are Sooo Deep at the position to which it wouldn't hurt us depth wise until he's probably traded. Trade value is key.

Time Will Tell.

He seems disinterested in playing football. It's hard to get value from another team for a guy that just doesn't care enough to even show up to practice. What would the Jaguars have gotten in trade for Blackmon 6 or 7 years ago once it was clear he just wanted to hide in his basement getting drunk and stoned? Probably something like a 7th round pick.

That's why having incompetent management is so damaging. You not only have to find talent, but it can't be guys like Blackmon who aren't interested in more than their first contract.

Maybe a lawsuit to claw back the signing bonus would get him out of bed in the mornings, but it's an indictment that Caldwell picked a guy like this who wasn't even very good in college.
The best possible outcome would be the team getting him some help and he returns with a renewed attitude and vigor.

We've seen nothing so far to indicate that Henderson will ever get his head together to be successful for the Jaguars or any other team. They need to cut their losses ASAP. Hopefully some team will lose a corner during the pre-season and be desperate to obtain someone like Henderson. The best the Jags can hope for would be a 2nd round pick. If the Eagles would part with Ertz and a 3rd rounder I'd go for that as long as Ertz is willing to sign a reasonable deal for beyond this season.

You think CJ is permanently useless, but is still worthy of a 3rd rounder + Ertz?  Seems a contradiction to me.

All it takes is one team who feels Henderson will eventually live up to the potential he showed while at Florida. If I were a GM for another team, I would not make this trade.

Yes I would agree to that...

Jags send CJ henderson to Eagles for 3rd round pick plus Zach Ertz!
I think the best possible outcome right now would be if he just doesn't want to play in Jacksonville, but does want to play somewhere else. Then he would at least have some value to another team. But if he doesn't want to play football at all, then he has no value.

And I think right now, any pick we got for the guy would be conditioned on if he plays or not. Because no one is going to trade a pick for a guy who might quit, unless they get a refund for that pick.
Its speculation. We will know when we know. Hoping for the best. I was excited about henderson as I watched him play for the gators as I'm a gator fan.

I agree, but where there's smoke, there's fire and CBS sports already came forward with a report that they're shopping him.. No way would The Jags give up a first rounder in his second year unless he didn't want to be here anymore..
As people have mentioned reading his Twitter likes the kid has obviously got some mental health issues, i think the jags will want to help him through it and eventually start playing again. I think the reports are more if we get a good offer we’ll be interested but at the sake of a 4th or 5th round pick they’ll be patient and see if they can help him through it.

If we cut him due to mental health problems the nflpa will have another field day in the press calling us out
We’ll be lucky to get a ham sandwich for him now. Other teams know Urban will cut him rather than infect the team’s culture Own it……or you can leave.
Making him available for trade and trading him are 2 entirely different things. I believe this is an educated move by management. He is now on everyone's radar as a possible solution to any issues they may have at CB going forward. He will not/should not be actually traded until we get what we want as compensation. Until then he plays and develops a reputation for whatever that level of play happens to be. His lack of motivation can be about anything as good CB's for the most part tend to be a bit on the Prim-Donna side of the equation. A few below:

a. Leftovers from a 1-15 season where getting ready to play at that level doesn't take much preseason effort.
b. Looks around at the talent being brought in and says, hey I can beat these guys with minimal effort.
c. Looks around at the competition for CB and says oh no can I stay on the field with these guys?
d. Thinks by getting traded he can get another big check
e. Has a show me we are going to be a better team first attitude.
f. The list is endless so why bother?

Let it play out and him sit if that is required. He is a good cost effective backup trade him on your terms not his.

I think just keep him and see if he can bounce back. Stash him on IR for mental health if needed. Might be a first, but I don’t think anyone would object in this day and age. I do think it confirms (not that we needed more evidence) that Caldwell was not a very good GM ultimately.
Told y'all earlier in the Offseason he was contemplating quitting...

Hope if it's mental, he get's the help he needs. If he's a diva, hope they bench him and fine him checks.
Another "Diamond" Dave Caldwell moment right here.  God I wanted this buffoon gone 3 years ago but Khan was too loyal at a fault.
