The Dispatch quoted Mike Davis of the Article III project who had an interesting thought on the matter.
As much as the media wants this to be about classified documents, because of the irony of the guy who decried Hillary's server potentially mishandling classified info himself, it's probably not about that.
As President, Trump could declassify stuff at will. So if he took stuff away that was still classified, before noon on January 20, then it's not so much that he did something he's not allowed to do, as it is he forgot to file the proper paperwork before doing something that he is allowed to do. Technically a crime, but not one worth punishing.
So the fact that some of these documents may have been classified is probably not material to the case that the FBI is trying to build.

Maybe. I think there has to be some consideration given to "criminal intent" too. There have been numerous instances of Trump destroying documents while he was in the White House that he's required, by law, to archive. But if there was no criminal intent (for example he wasn't trying to hide evidence of some other crime), then perhaps it's not that big of a deal. I'll be waiting to see how this plays out and if it has any relevance to the January 6th hearings.
One thing is for absolutely sure, the FBI better hope they find some very damning evidence or this is going to break off far up their [BLEEP]. They’ve laid all of their cards on the table. If they don’t destroy him now, he’ll become Godzilla.
The FBI just declared war on 74 million Americans. People are pissed..

They’ve been going after President Trump for 7 years, show trial after show trial. People are sick of it. The sacrifices this Man has made for this country are beyond enough. No American should have to suffer what the President has had to suffer.

These partisan witch hunts have gone on long enough

Where was the indignation when Hillary was being investigated I wonder?

Hmm, she was able to acid wash hard drives after a lawful request from investigators and still no FBI raid. She orchestrated a coup attempt against President Trump with manufactured “evidence” and still no raid. She’s had people commit suicide with bullets to the back of their heads and still no raid. The Left gets away with the most egregious crimes ever committed in this country and crickets from the DOJ or FBI. And then we have this guy..

Just because Trump appointed them doesn't mean they are good. The swamp is huge and even Trump couldn't just appoint outsiders and get everyone approved. They would all be blocked by the swamp.

I’d bet a dollar on it.
There definitely is. The swamp includes a lot of RINOs, they are all uniparty.

On the DeSantis stuff, I don't think there is an issue with Trump there. It's a fake drama that the media and liberals are creating to try and create division. He needs to stay governor for 4 more years. It's good for FL but also gives him time to build his brand nation wide. Right now he won't get RINO votes unless the other option is Trump so he has no way to win.

That's illegal and what the feds want. They want to use it as an excuse to crush the right. If they arrest Trump though, I don't know if the nation stays together unless the Q people are right and there is some plan.

I concur, I really believe that if Trump picks DeSantis as his running mate then its all over for the Dems...

But, what the dems are trying to do -

"Trump could be BANNED from holding public office if he is found guilty of mishandling classified White House records, this is what they are attempting..."

So, putting aside conspiracy theories for a minute, you're primary contention is that "it's different". I disagree, political figures aren't above being investigated for wrongdoing no matter their party.

See, you automatically lose any credibility when you label REAL crimes committed by YOUR side as "conspiracy theories" The "conspiracy theories" have all been towards ONE MAN, President Trump.

Interesting.  Trump could be in more trouble than I thought.  I wasn't aware that this federal statute allowed judges to ban people from office as part of their sentence.  I'm not sure such a statute and sentence would be constitutional.  The constitution lays out in section 3 of amendment 14 what reasons a person can be banned for, and mishandling documents isn't one of them.

Lol ... DeSantis probably uncorked some champagne last night and started packing his bags for the White House.  The Republican Party should be in celebration mode.

I don't think DeSantis is thinking that way. He's busy getting FL headed in the right direction so when he runs for POTUS in the 2028 election he can do so with much more experience under his belt and a larger voter base. The man is actually doing his job from what I can see from a different state.

I can't think of one moderate or conservative (not far right) who would choose Trump over DeSantis and I don't see DeSantis being Trump's running mate as was suggested elsewhere. DeSantis needs to forge his own path to succeed and being Trump's VP is not going to help him. Trump is as polarizing as Hillary Clinton just for different reasons.
No one should be denouncing the raid until more is known. For all we know there could be a cache of child porn in that safe. The Republicans who are getting out ahead of this to show fealty to Trump may find themselves in a very awkward position depending on what we learn next.
Great now trumps really going to be a folk hero it's almost like the democrats want Trump to be the only GOP candidate

Right, because you know 7 years of this crap is not enough. 7 years they have attacked this man with everything they have which turned out to be NOTHING... NOT A SINGLE THING. Mike, you are a partisan hack, nothing more.

All this did is galvanize millions of Americans. Even the moderates that have cooled on Trump are now pissed off and will support Trump again in 24, not to mention that the Dems now have MILLIONS of pissed off Republicans heading into the midterms.. They think it was going to be bad before? People that have might sat out the midterms will be motivated to make their voices heard even more now...

No matter how you try and spin this, this will bite the Dems in the butt...

At this point, the only chance they have to win is by running against a polarizing candidate as the party of reason and sanity. They can't run on thier record so far.
