He did nothing during the actual preseason games.

Never a fan of Prince

Or maybe they just don't see a role for him here, that could be the case as well.

That's where I've been at for weeks.   As a pure RECEIVER, he's not one of the Jaguars top 7.    As a return guy...what did we see him do?
I was hoping Austin would pan out but a WR is useless with stone hands.

He clearly took all the returner snaps we saw them give Claybrooks last year as the #2 return guy at this stage, so he seems destined for that role in that regard.

We haven't seen anything otherworldly from the kid - but unlike Jags regimes of recent past, this one seems to actually develop young players.

I'm speculating they'd like to develop this one as a potential replacement to a soon-to-be free agent returner & depth/gadget receiver.

I'm all for developing him on the PS, but I don't think he has shown enough to warrant a roster spot.

The back up returner has to be active on game day, and I don't think he is high enough on the depth chart to justify being an active WR.

Yeah, it's hard to know how the staff view his stage of development and ceiling. They've seen more than us.
I guess we'll know soon.
Much of my guesswork is based on the amount of work they gave him over others in the preseason games, but that's obviously not definitive.

He was expected to be their big body guy, but Cooks and Williams smoked him

Your proposing we keep Herndon and add King? So cut our young developing players that we hope by mid season will be starting?

Next, Herndon ran a 4.47 and King a 4.5 when they were drafted. Since neither of us have timed these guys lately we need to assume Herndon IS faster(not by much) than King.  So if you do not like Herndon's speed your going to be disappointed in King.

I can't see bringing in a marginal replacement and eating 2.5 million in dead money AND paying the guy, but who knows?  (about 1/3rd of our remaning cap room) I feel like you are Brice Pauping me? Let's wait and see what the Jags do.

You add King and waive your last corner.  I'm talking about football speed not a 40 time.  Have you watched Jags games in recent years?  You don't want Herndon in man coverage because he get beat regularly. Jerry Rice ran a 4.7, you think he's slow because of his 40 time?  We aren't in rebuild mode anymore and have a shot at the  championship this year so if you think he's an upgrade to what we have bring him in.  I'd also be good with bringing in Melvin Ingram.  You would rather keep Chaisson since he younger though I'm sure.

No they are the same guy at this time of their careers in my opinion. One is 10lbs heavier and the other an inch taller. Tre has been in the system a year and King will need to learn it on the fly. I'll have to get my watch out and see some tape, but my guess is they will be running almost the same speed. So spending 1/3rd of our cap space is not appealing to me for the pay back. I am cool with your opinion, like I said let's just wait and see.

ps been sitting in section 149 since the Jags have been a team so yea I have been watching the games.

Yeah - I'm as big a Herndon critic as anyone in this fanbase at times, and I doubt the waiver wire or street free agency is going to reveal a notable upgrade to him at this stage of the preseason.

It's also clear the team is attempting to develop young talent to supplant him and possibly defend the slot in other coverage packages besides typical nickel coverage. They may prefer these in-house players to those outside the building.

I doubt they are looking to add a NB from other cuts right now unless someone more surprising is released.
Actually, that is REALLY interesting. I was thinking he was gone anyway. Only 25k of dead money if we had cut him. Just kicks that decision down the road.
Can’t believe Prince got waived
Dixon and Coleman waived

TeVaughn Campbell released

Hallett waived
They just announced on 1010 that Cooks made the 53

Wilson waived
7 receivers, 6 CBs, 5 safeties.
Cooks making the team is outstanding!!

The league is basically suspending him due to the domestic violence arrest
