Ok, so we replace a guy who has been in our system for a year with a shorter slower player that got beat out by Shaq Griffin.  In the process we eat 2.5 million in dead cap and pay him another 1-2 million so a 4 to 5 million dollar expense for a backup.  Who is most likely no better, but has a bigger name?  I believe we can find a better investment.

You keep saying got beat out by Griffin.  You are a little confused, they play 2 different positions.  Griffin plays outside corner wile King plays nickel.  You don't have to cut Herndon, they can still keep him.  King isn't slower than Herndon lol,  Herndon is one of the slower corners in the league and you typically want your nickel corner to be a little smaller to keep up with the smaller shiftier slot players.  King is definitely better than Herndon.

Did you really just say you want a slower player? Lol.

He would be like our third string nickel?

Why would you want a 6th year player that just got cut that far down your roster? That is a spot for a young developing player.

He would be our starting nickel, Right now he is likely an upgrade to what we have unless JR is ready to beat him out.  You play him until the younger player develops into a better player than the vet.  He's definitely better than Herndon but the rest of our younger corners is unproven.  If we add King and a younger player is able to beat him out then we are in a much better position at nickel than we were last year.  Just like I'd like to add Melvin Ingram as well.  Play Ingram until a younger player can beat him out.  Ingram at 34is better than Chaisson even though Chaisson is younger.

It seems like Chaisson is going to survive unless they can trade him. He has special teams value, supposedly.

Kinda sucks to be committed to special teams value when the vast majority of plays end up touchbacks. Sucks even worse when you are paying first round pick money to a guy covering kicks.

He's a name, that's all. The Texans opted to cut him and not Shaq Griffin. What's that tell you about his play these days?

got dang that's a savage statement.

incriminating photos of the GM or owner. Only thing I can think of.

We would be his 4th team in 4 years. Whatever you are seeing in this guy, no one else is seeing it anymore.

Damn! I thought teams were calling the Jags about him!! Laughing
Gerrit Prince waived that’s the first shock for me , all beat writers seemed to think he was a sure thing

Your proposing we keep Herndon and add King? So cut our young developing players that we hope by mid season will be starting?

Next, Herndon ran a 4.47 and King a 4.5 when they were drafted. Since neither of us have timed these guys lately we need to assume Herndon IS faster(not by much) than King.  So if you do not like Herndon's speed your going to be disappointed in King.

I can't see bringing in a marginal replacement and eating 2.5 million in dead money AND paying the guy, but who knows?  (about 1/3rd of our remaning cap room) I feel like you are Brice Pauping me? Let's wait and see what the Jags do.

True. I hate keeping guys merely for special teams value, unless they're a kicker, punter, long snapper, or top return specialist like Agnew. A gunner... meh. There are always backup linebackers and DBs to train up.

I guess that means they're keeping Cook. I hope Prince and Jacob Harris land on the PS.

Chaisson's salary is guaranteed this year so if we cut him, we would still have to pay him.

Plus we have no depth at OLB.

Well that's certainly interesting

If this comes to pass I think it's safe to say we're keeping 6 WR's and that Cooks & Tim Jones are the last 2. Calvin, Kirk, Zay, Agnew are locks. If they trade Washington for a conditional late round pick, and have already cut Harris the writing is on the wall.

I may not like Tim Jones much as a blocker or WR, but his knowledge of the system and ability to play Core 4 on ST's is helping him stick around another year. I'm praying he's not forced into action due to a rash of injuries.

They want to keep Cooks on the 53 and stash Washington on PS I’d say
Agnew to the Fins for a 4th so they can have the NFL's best 4x400 relay team. *ducks*

It sounds like they rather trade Washington than stash him.

It's likely that if he makes it to the PS then he gets pickup up later this year and they get nothing for him.
