Really, you're being obtuse. He's a British accountant living in Australia. Of course he knows more about U.S. healthcare than us. Now crawl off and wither away from some completely treatable disease since you can't afford medical treatment, you, you, petty non-millionaire.
We live longer over here thanks! Must be luck...

It's strange how you bang on for 30 pages saying how terrible your healthcare is then a foreigner mentions it and you get all upset! Awfully touchy.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics.
Fake news?
Quote:Those foods are cheap now and people don't buy them, because of convenience not cost.
no they are not cheap...not just food thats good for you healthier
as in more healthy than just buying a hunk of meat and veggies and cooking it...
Quote:I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with here? In order to eat the prescribed diet for DM you can certainly live on what I stated and do it on the cheap. You're overstating the costs of eating a healthy diet.
NO! every heard of the RDA? you won't reach that using your example not to mention the caloric intake you need to have a healthy and nutritious diet
Quote:sure! If you have diabetes you have to have a certain caloric intake, a certain intake of carbohydrates, a certain amount of sodium and protein fats and sugars...

many foods can give you that, but you have to count everything you eat and calculate...most people dont have to do that they just grab some meat. cook it throw in some potatoes and a veggie and call that eating healthy and while it looks like it's a well balanced meal, it's really not...

Quote:He needs foods suitable for diabetics. Sugar free, low carb. A can of veggies off the shelf at Walmart fits that need. So does a steak from Publix. He doesn't need "organically grown" versions of those foods, that's just a want.

We were talking about eating healthier not just ok foods...

Quick lesson in eating healthy...

on the labels of foods there is a list of ingredients  which give you the RDA PER serving of the food...In order to be a healthy meal, you have to look at the label and add the amounts of the stuff like calories, fats, trans fat, carbs, protein, potassium, and all that PER SERVING...

The basic caloric intake should be 2000-2400 per day... I just use the percentages of the other stuff to see where I'm at...

For instance, a bowl of cereal ONE serving is usually a half a cup (some is 3/4) which is about the amount you can hold in the palm of your hand and is about 17% of the carbs you should eat in one day...

No one eats that little...Most  people will fill the bowl over half full which is usually around 1 1/2 or 2 cups which amounts to 2 1/2 to 4 four servings... so using a half a cup as a serving size which is 17% per serving and you eat 4 servings, you just ate 68% of the carbs you are supposed to eat all day...Thats not counting the milk either just the cereal... you still have 2 more meals to eat and only 32% of your carbs left for the day before you are not eating healthy...

To have a healthy balanced nutritious meal, that above should be done for every meal to actually be a healthy and nutritious meal and it's not just for carbs either, its for all the stuff you are supposed to eat every day

Yes, I have, and yes, I'm right.

I don't believe either, but at least we can get back on topic of this thread though

Easily done with a small amount of research.

Recommended Daily Allowance? Seriously? Do you know how much politics from the agricultural industry went into that hogwash?

And this is very on topic, if Im going to pay for your healthcare you need to protect my investment.

you aren't paying for my health care, I have traditional employer based health care and even if I didn't you can't do anything but pay the tax anyway...

You clearly have no idea how this is going to work. You're going to be healthy or else. You're already driving up premiums with your reckless eating habits, get it together man.

I'm not doing anything my blood glucose level is holding very well in the levels my dr wants it to with very little spikes...The majority of keeping blood glucose at safe levels is what and how you eat...
Good gawd, are we still going on about this?

We're still only disagreeing on cost. Diabetes is the most prevelent preventable disease in America, people just need to live right to avoid it in most cases. That's pretty easy to do with good habits, but we don't like that because it's hard, not because it costs too much. Diabetes is a disease of abundance, not scarcity. So we get thousands of unnecessary dollars in medical costs to treat the consequences. That's what has to change if we are really interested in bending the cost curve.

The republican health care solution? No, we gave up on that ages ago. Now Florida Sports God is trying to convince us the reason healthcare costs are so high is our fault for all being weak-willed diabetes-having sinners. Nothing to do with the insurance lobby. Fatty.

Pretty much. There are a few folks that seem to think that the U.S. is some special snowflake that is incredibly different than all of the other countries that have implemented better health care systems. So far I haven't heard (or missed, somewhere in the agricultural extension class posts) the part that explains that our procedure or drug costs are due to bad eating, climate, or locusts. While I have read a few book and a number of articles, I think this site summarizes many of my thoughts on the matter. The conclusions page is a pretty quick overview on why we are where we are.

I didn't say that at all, but cost control cannot continue to be reactive. If you worked in health care you would hear all about this non-stop, it's why prevention and value-based reimbursements are moving center stage.
