Quote:Do better than 1-9??? Probably a lot... Harbaughs, Reid, Belicheck, Payton, Kelly, McCarthy...
A better question would be what coach couldn't take this team to 1-9? Sure seems like anyone could to that....
I really don't believe that...In all fairness this team is nothing more than an expansion team level with not one known playmaker on it
Quote:I really don't believe that...In all fairness this team is nothing more than an expansion team level with not one known playmaker on it
So no one else in the entire league could take this exact team to 2-8?
In all fairness, Bradley has shown nothing (up to this point) to show he's a good coach. He's still got 6 more games to play so hopefully that changes.
Quote:I really don't get the impression that Khan is much into just PR talk...he has said certain things about certain things, calling them unacceptable and people must be held accountable, but I don't believe he just blows smoke and hide what he really feels
I think changing the coaching staff now would be a set back...the players seem to just be getting to understand and play the OC scheme...They are running the ball better ( not necessarily GOOD, but better), they are blocking better,...as the players start being able to actually understand the scheme, the playbook can open up...
If we change the OC, a new scheme will be introduced and players will have to learn that one now...Switching coordinators and schemes every couple years isn't good
I think in business, there is always a bit of PR/spin/smoke that one puts out. Some call it "branding" LOL! I like Khan too. I'm just saying that maybe when he's talking about where we are in terms of the rebuild, he's talking more about the personel we are bringing in and not so much the coaching staff.
Now, I need to pull back a bit, cause I'm coming off as a bit too negative, which I'm really not... Yes, I'm critical of Bradley and the coaching staff, but I am still looking forward to watching the last 6 games of this season. I'm not ready yet to say fire them all. But I really want to see somethings start to gel together, especially in on the offense.
You are right, the running game is looking alot better now. BB5 has his issues, but I'm happy with him as our QB for the next 2 years and I expect him to take huge steps over the next year and a half. But I'll be honest, if the team continues to struggle for the last 6 games, I think it would be more detrimental to keep the OC than to replace him with an OC that knows more about the NFL. But that can be argued during the off season.
Quote:Are you seeing alot of increased talent from Gratz and Cyp? Shoelace has made some major strides... He's the only 2nd year player I can think of that has gotten better...
Bowanko and Linder are rookies that are upgrades. Same with Hurns and AR15. But I think they haven't gotten better because of our coaching.
Of couse, we're not at any of the practices to tell the difference in terms of whats going on. I'm honestly just asking. If we had a better coaching staff, do you think we'd have seen some more of our 2nd year players taking larger leaps of progress?
some of the players can't seem to stay on the field..weren't cyp and Gratz both out for a bit? that doesn't help much...There have been articles written about cyp that say he's quite good...some get better some just don't...Look at D Harvey, R Nelson. I had a good example but it is lost in my brain...He was a DB a few years ago, everyone thought he was so great, we let him go somehow and now he's not doing well...MSW, Tiquan Underwood, the list goes on...

Shoelace is playmaker! So is Hurns!! Lewis and Harbor have made some big plays...

the addition of the running game will open open the playbook farther...I believe that since Khan says he has unlimited patience, (in the London videos), that Gus is safe for as long as there is improvement...These first two years, improvement hasn't been shown in the w/l column, but I think that will change...I would not be content with anything less than 6-10 next year but I would really be pretty set on 7-9

I was meaning known to people other than jags fans...the last one we had was MDJ...everyone knew him, but we don't have a player like that yet

I'm not about to put down a win/loss benchmark for next year. I'm still concerned about this year. I think Bradley has alot to prove after this bye week. Seriously, having less wins this year
than last year is a big issue if that occurs. That's not showing improvment in my book. And the talent level on this team is better than last year, so there's really no excuse for not getting to 4 wins other than the coaching has not gotten better.

to be fair though...there is at least 3 other games we should have won but rookie mistakes lost them...we really should be at at least 4 wins right now...I know I know woulda shoulda coulda doesn't mean squat, but we really should be sitting higher than where we are

Rookie mistakes AND bad coaching! Dude, there were some bad play calls, bad coaching challenges, bad timeouts that could cost us the Dolphins and Steelers game...
It's not as though Bradley has been killing it in terms of clock management and game planning... You just have to see that, right?

well Mr Khan disagrees with that...He said he is encouraged by the improvement he has seen (again the London videos)...As long as Khan is seeing improvement, nothing will change...well I take that back...I heard watching one of the games that Gus has taken the reins to the defense, which makes me think that the DC may be on his way out...

of course I see that...I also see crappy timing for time outs...That brings me wayyyyy back to when Wayne Weaver first got the team...He said " we will make some mistakes along the way" and Mr Khans management will do the same...In a perfect world that wouldn't happen, but all well known highly sought after coaches all did the same thing when they were rookie coaches...You have to expect that

It's not really a bench mark, well by definition I suppose it is, but I also understand that what I expect and what Mr Khan might expect might not be even close to the same, and the only expectation that really matters is Mr. Khans...Fans expectations mean nothing and usually are a cause of angst

Lol so a better coach would get us a couple more wins?
A good coach never underestimates the little things....

that's a question that can not be answered with anything other than we can never know...is it possible? Yes, it is, but there is no way to prove that it is, or the same thing on the opposite, would a better coach get us more wins? NO? Maybe? We can't know, but yes it's possible...
Even good/better coaches make mistakes

Nothing? A head coach is paid for the big picture. Last year he showed me something in the second half when he took a team that by all rights should have packed it in and gone 0-16, fight back to win half their games. The team is making strides this year even though it hasn't shown up much in the win column yet. The defense is playing quite a bit better since Bradley became more involved over there and the offense is moving the ball. The only thing right now keeping the Jags from winning a lot more games is this tendency they have to self destruct. That's a function of their youth, not a bad coaching job.

He's 1-9 man. If he doesn't get a couple more wins, I don't know how you can say this team is improving. From 4-12 to 1-15? Yea we are playing a little better here and there but is that because of Bradley or because of the veterans we brought in at certain positions?
I have no clue how things will end up but so far, I'm not impressed.
I am giving Bradley a pass this year, as the roster that Caldwell has given him to date is horrific.

He is, but this thread is about coaching. There's a lot that goes into winning, coaching is just one factor.

The thread is about coaching yet all people bring up is the "young" roster. He has zero statement wins, zero great coaching moves and plenty of bad coaching decisions.
Hopefully we go 3-3 down the stretch and we start seeing this "improvement" actually translate into wins. Until they do translate into wins, Bradley won't be considered a good coach in my book. Coaches will always be judged by wins.
