Quote:Something I do want to point out... We left a few wins on the table this season... The pitt game was winnable and so was the tack and dolphin game...
That's 3 games that could have been won... at which point we'd be what, 4-6... And the Cincy game was winnable during the first half... Same with the Eagles game...
There's an arguement that can be made that with better coaching we may very well have won a few of those games...
Again, I'm waiting for the final 6 games to make a better decision. But let's not imply that this team is so devoid of talent that our current record is the only possibility that could be fathomed at this moment.
There were alot of mistakes made that could have turned a few of our losses around. And some of those mistakes fell on the coaching staff...
Could've, would've, should've. Bad teams lose those types of games. Hence Jaguars.
The biggest telling stat of how bad this coaching staff is, it's the entire second half of ball games.
We can go back to week 1 to philly and it's been a trend every week. We play competitive in the first half and just get our butts handed too us in the second. While other teams coaches are changing their gameplan and adjusting the Jaguars brass falls asleep at the wheel and gets flat out coached.
Lets not even talk about the numerous wasted timeouts, bad challenges, bad gameplans. The coach and the players are not doing a good job. The idea would be to fire the coach and replace most of the players. We are rebuilding anyway so throw out the trash. Oh and he can take his crappy coordinators with him.
Quote:Bingo. It's pathetic that some members will cherry pick a couple of aspects of the team as improved. The overall team is horrible and the 1 win we have reflects that. Some areas got better this year while others got worse. It's a wash. This team flat out sucks. If people on this board were not a fan of this team they would laugh at how bad it is like the rest of the league does. We are whipping post.
No doubt, they'd be saying what the others would : they are moving to London, they can't sell tickets, they don't deserve a team. The blinders are on.

This . Couldn't have said it any better.
I voted yes for Gus.
The team could very well come out of the bye week like madmen possessed and fire off 6 wins--we have some talent. Gus is the kind of leader that could fire-up an OK or good team to beat a great/favored team when it counts (yet to be fully seen, though). The catch is we aren't an OK or good team at the moment. Since Bortles became 'ready' the offense has showed glimmers of life and the team has been competitive in games, its a start. The bye week should help this group, too. I know the record still sucks, but the season isn't over either. 7-9 or consider my confidence shook with this regime.
But the fire the whole staff crowd are laughable with their drive-thru mentality.
"Just a few moments on your nuggets, Ma'am."
"DIE!"

Not including rookies.... How many players on our team would start on another team? Beadles, Marks, Bryant... Cyp? Shorts? Denard? Clemons?
I'm not down on Gus but if it comes down to yes vs no.... I voted no. I just see dudes like Chip Kelley that are very smart and ingenuitive. Gus is a pep rally dude, probably not very smart, that is going to have to surround himself by smart coordinators to be successful. But then again you get what you pay for -- Chip makes $6.5m per year vs Gus $3.5m

"probably not very smart"
Wellllll, that certainly describes some things around here.
:whistling:

I think people buy into what they see in pressers and they think that's the guy, but in speaking to those who are inside the organization about their impression of Gus, you couldn't be further from the truth. Gus is actually a very well read, smart guy. Don't mistake the persona he projects publicly with who he actually is because you're missing the mark.
Has he made mistakes? Absolutely. But, when you compare him to a guy like Chip Kelly, make sure you put things into perspective. Kelly stepped into a situation that was significantly better than what Gus inherited here.
I don't think he is. I think he was given credit for constructing Seattle's defense, which I find hard to believe, I'm pretty sure that had everything to do with Pete Carroll. Even though Seattle doesn't look like they did last year, they're still a good team.
The Eagles passed over him for Chip Kelly....understood. Did he interview from any other spots besides PHI and here? He seems to be more suited for a mid-tier college team than the NFL. The only games left I can really see us winning are vs. the Giants and Tiants. If we go 2-14 or 3-13, how can we say we saw improvement? 1-15 is very possible also.

Since Gus was the only assistant retained by Carroll, I highly doubt that the defense was everything Pete Carroll.

You're right, but if you watched last weeks' game against the Cowboys, you could hear the announcer saying how Bradley was responsible for constructing the defense that Seattle won the superbowl with....Lol what? I think a lot of people believe that.

I think Seattle set a couple defensive records last year... Bradleys first year out of Seattle.

So you know for sure that the Seahawks have completely scrapped the defensive scheme Gus installed when he was there? Do teams who have a stellar defense like the Seahawks go with a completely different plan with the new DC? If no is the answer to those questions then Gus was responsible for the scheme that helped them win the Superbowl.

Amazing how when you have the right players in the right scheme for more than 2 years that things like that happen.

This may be the dumbest post of the year.
Congratulations! The competition was very tough.

Honestly, I think Bradley was a lame duck defensive coordinator, and Pete Carroll is mainly responsible for the making the defense what it is....or what it was.

So he was the only assistant coach retained because Carroll wanted to "lame duck" him. Makes sense to me.

You have your opinion of him, I have mine....makes sense to me. Instead of reiterating my statements into questions, feel free to break down why you think he is the guy.
