It's so nice how you like to pull out once a generation GOAT type players to bash this bunch of kids. First Favre, now Brady...hell, why don't you go dig up BIll Walsh and ask him about his 4 trophies?
Quote:4 and 12 with the 2013 Jaguars was a Coach of the Year performance.
4 and 12 with the 2014 Jaguars could potentially be the same thing.
not even close to coty performance.
Yes.... for now. When Dave picked Gus to be the HC it seemed like the best choice given the options available. We needed a head coach 'now' and you can only hire who's willing and available. Understanding that, I think Gus was the man for the job.... and still is, unless the team proves that he isn't 'gettin' 'er done'. Have we reached that point? I don't think so; we're still only two years into a total rebuild. No one should consider dumping their head coach after only two seasons into a total rebuild given what Gus has had to work with.

Don't like my answer ? Oh well, facts are facts...I thought that previous comment was fitting. What do you care more about stats or wins/Super Bowl wins?

Who, in your estimation, has done more with less than Bradley?
Quote:Until I hear it from the coach or GM no one posting on this board knows what the plan is. Yes, I heard them say their plan was to build through the draft, but that is the extent of it. To my knowledge, at no time did they say it was a 3 year plan to be playoff contenders. At no time did they say we will struggle for 2 years then in year 3 we will be contenders. Not once did they say we will continue with youth and inexperience for the first two years with no improvement then judge our results in year 3.
Some how though, posters will continue to devour this 3 year process fantasy as though its carved in stone we either win consistently in year 3 or Khan will change the regime.

It may not be directly from the Head Coach or General Manager, but read the
answer from John Oehser to the question posed by Ronnie from Jacksonville.
You can read the column if you want, but here is part of the answer.
Quote:
Since David Caldwell and Gus Bradley arrived in January 2013, the plan has been consistent that the team will build through the draft, and that that’s where the core of the team will be built. It also has been clearly stated that after a couple of drafts, the team would supplement that core by targeting areas of needs in free agency.

I care about getting to the point where winning like the Pats is the norm. And your perceptions aren't necessarily facts.

from an interview last year with Caldwell:
Quote:In a front office intent on building through the draft, how do you maintain patience in such a highly competitive business?

DC: “Our plan is to find the best draft class we can, supplement with B- and C-tier free agents that can come in and play and have a coach that will help develop those guys. Alan Ball, one of our starting cornerbacks had, I think, 12 percent play time last year. Geno Hayes had less than 50 percent and has been a good linebacker for us. Eight different rookies have started for us this year. That was the plan.

“As we move forward, we’ll pick and choose spots where it’s good for us to invest in free agents while still always focusing on building through the draft.

“It’s difficult to build slowly, but it’s the right thing to do. Sometimes I have to tell Gus and Shad, ‘Please keep me patient. Don’t let me get caught up and go down a path I don’t believe in.’ That’s why our executive structure is so good. We have such good communication to talk through things.”

Why would it be a mistake for the Jaguars to spend to get competitive more quickly?

DC: “I think we’ve learned from what they’ve done in the past. The year before we got here they spent $145 million in cash and went 2-14. Obviously, that didn’t work. To go down that road and do it again would be virtually insane.
then later regarding the 2014 draft:
Quote:What’s the general philosophy with the 10 draft picks you have next year?

DC: “We’re going to sit down at the end of the year with our staff and see who will be coming back, who we’ll re-sign and supplement any glaring holes through free agency. Then hopefully we’ll add 10 guys that can come in and contribute.”
So - he's clearly outlined the 2013 and 2014 off seasons as
focused on draft with "supplemental" free agency acquisitions - and he has now said that the coming offsesason would be the time to ramp up the FA activity.
So - whether it's a 3 year plan or a 5 year plan or a plan with no defined period - he
clearly had a plan for the first three years.

Quote:You missed more wins....
Are the areas stated as improved not improved?
Quote:Who should we've brought in that would've made this year better? I really can only think of 1 or 2 guys who could be part of the solution who we could get to come here.
Keeping a few of our own would of been a start I guess. blowing up the team so dramatically kind of made the season hopeless. We are basically fielding a preseason squad and it shows. We all knew that oline should of been addressed more than just Beadles and hoping Joekle could just step in and dominate.
Quote:Are the areas stated as improved not improved?
Yes but it hasn't equaled more wins.... Isn't the point to actually win? Until we do end up winning games, how can you honestly think Bradley is the right guy?
Quote:Their record.. The thing that matters most. Ask Brady what he thinks about manning's stats. Or does he care about his wins and rings...
That wasn't the topic. You said no one could tell you the team was improved. They are.
I want the wins to happen. I wanted to have 3 or 4 by this point. I
expected it. I'm mad it hasn't happened. It doesn't mean the team hasn't improved.

Hmm... that's straight from the GM. Does that classify as "message board fodder"?

But we've been over that already. No one except the over priced D.Smith was willing or worth keeping. We had 3 guys here on Oline they thought could contribute and that bombed, but we have what looks like 2 guys in the middle from the draft with a lot of potential. We can't set our eyes on the short term when the team is building for the longer haul (by their own statements).

Answer on wins above ^ post#94
Answer to bolded: I don't know he's the right guy. I said he might be. He's certainly given me reason to doubt this year, but with such a ridiculously young roster - I'm patient enough to wait before judging him too harshly.
If Bortles is the guy, Bradley is the guy.
I like him and hope he is, but results will decide his fate, as of now I'd say no.

I dont know...why cant there be a happy medium between building with an eye on the future while remaining competitive. If the majority of these young guys dont pan out then we are rebuilding forever. I guess we will find out next year
